Banditoz··on Show HN: I built a IMDB for all kinds of micro-creators
I am unable to scroll through the site with arrow keys, page up/down or middle click.
Banditoz··on Ask HN: What is the best code base you ever worked on?
Their own IDE? Is it web based? So they don't use, say, IntelliJ/Eclipse for Java projects?
Banditoz··on Monitoring energy usage with smart plugs, Prometheus and Grafana
Why not both?
Banditoz··on General Motors Quits Sharing Driving Behavior with Data Brokers
What new car can you buy nowadays that either has:

* No pushing of driving data to the cloud, or

* this pushing of data can easily be disabled (pulling a fuse, etc)

for privacy minded folks? It seems almost like a lost battle.

Banditoz··on Tunnelmole, an ngrok alternative (open source)
Dynamic DNS is a good alternative. A free one I like is https://www.duckdns.org/
Banditoz··on Defcon: Preventing overload with graceful feature degradation (2023)
Am I reading the second figure right? Facebook can do 130*10^6 queries/second == ‭130,000,000‬ queries/second?!
Banditoz··on Capital One Is Buying Discover Financial
If they didn't block the Actiblizz purchase I don't see why they'd block this one.
Banditoz··on Figure out who's leaving the company: dump, diff, repeat
Can they monitor for such a thing? Does say, Azure AD show whenever someone downloads data? Does Outlook make a similar call to figure out the name dropdowns?
Banditoz··on VMware Kills Off 56 Products
VMware (now Broadcom?) owns the Spring/Spring Boot libraries, right? Anyone know if they're still planning on maintaining it?
Banditoz··on Ask HN: Why do some YC companies keep posting the same job bi-weekly?
Oh wow, you weren't kidding: https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&que...

First post for founding engineer #3 was back in June 2022.

Banditoz··on NY times is asking that all LLMs trained on Times data be destroyed
https://nitter.net/Dan_Jeffries1/status/1741053245756211560
Banditoz··on It's time to put REST to rest
What about 204? https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Status/204
Banditoz··on I created an ephemeral group chat app for strangers
Neat little project, but you can pass HTML tags directly into the chat! <script> doesn't seem to run, but <img> can load from external sites. Be careful!
Banditoz··on Suno AI
That's pretty dystopic. I don't want that.
Banditoz··on Beeper vs. Apple battle intensifies: Lawmakers demand DOJ investigation
You just described public clouds.
Banditoz··on LinkedIn shelved plan to migrate to Microsoft Azure cloud
You could still run your own Kafka cluster just using their VMs, right? Or is EventHubs cheaper?
Banditoz··on AI rejection letter for being born on the wrong date
Seems like it. Wouldn't an LLM write "LinkedIn" instead of "linkedin"?
Banditoz··on Apple cuts off Beeper Mini's access
Is spam a good reason for Apple to keep their iMessage garden exclusive? SMS is also widely used for spam.
Banditoz··on Amazon Introduces Q, an A.I. Chatbot for Companies
Reminded me of Q from Star Trek.
Banditoz··on Ask HN: What was the outcome of Reddit blackout?
I still mindlessly scroll sometimes on a third-party app with a personal API key (crappy habit, I know) but there's definitely some interesting subreddits that got popular on the (not signed in) frontpage when the cutover happened. r/amiugly, r/amiuglybrutallyhonest, r/presidents, r/howtolooksmax, r/whatifalthist (this is an odd political subreddit), two more r/amitheasshole themed subreddits popped up, and some others that I'm forgetting.

Definitely worse before the API changes, feels like there's less content now. I don't have to scroll very far to find niche subreddits anymore, which is a plus I suppose.

Banditoz··on Selfhosted Email by Maddy on Oracle Cloud
You can partially mitigate it by making sure DMARC, DKIM, and SPF are configured right. There are tools online you can use to verify they're setup right, don't remember which sites though.
Banditoz··on Ansel
> I have given 4 years of my life to the Darktable project, only to see it destroyed by clueless geeks playing code stashing on their spare time, everyone pushing his own agenda with no sense of design, in a project where nobody is responsible for anything and where we work too fast on everything at the same time.

Anyone know what happened to the Darktable project? I've only used it a few times, but it seems nice for someone who knows how to use it (which isn't me!) but curious what drama happened.

Banditoz··on Zoom Fatigue Is Real, According to Brain Scans
> Discord's audio is fantastic, but so is Mumble's, a FOSS VoIP solution, so I have no idea how big companies like Microsoft can't figure it out.

Oh Microsoft figured it out. They just made the quality subtly worse vs Zoom. Jumping from a Zoom meeting to a Teams one, especially with the same people, amplifies this a bit.

Banditoz··on Windows is now an app for iPhones, iPads, Macs, and PCs
Oh thank goodness I wasn't the only one with this issue! My coworker uses WSL2 regularly and never ran into it...

That aside I think it's a pretty good substitute, but if your stack is already Linux adjacent anyway I think running Linux is best.

Banditoz··on OpenAI's board has fired Sam Altman
Didn't this happen in a Silicon Valley episode?
Banditoz··on Amazon will cut 'several hundred' Alexa jobs as it ends unspecified initiatives
Wait, streaming to multiple speakers at once is something you can patent?
Banditoz··on A coder considers the waning days of the craft
What sort of questions do you ask out of curiosity?
Banditoz··on Firefox Development Is Moving from Mercurial to Git
Lol, only reason I don't mind it is my company's self-hosted instance is extremely snappy compared to SaaS GitHub/Gitlab. But it's getting behind in features. Wish it had multiline comments/suggestions.
Banditoz··on Firefox Development Is Moving from Mercurial to Git
Are they losing contributors, though? I like GitHub/Gitlab/BitBucket as much as most people but choice of version control is going to be secondary to getting your patch into a major web browser in my opinion.

Also looks like they're still planning on using existing review tools:

> We will continue to use Bugzilla, moz-phab, Phabricator, and Lando... Although we'll be hosting the repository on GitHub, our contribution workflow will remain unchanged and we will not be accepting Pull Requests at this time

Banditoz··on Shadows Edge Software
Wait, what? Every one of those fighter jets is running a k8s cluster?
