Awesome lightweight music player
And this is not simply a social network, but a work-oriented one.
You can simply use git for versioning, FrontMatter for article metadata (like title, published status etc.), reStructuredText or Markdown for writeup, and whichever tool you may see fit.
If you don't want to build your own, Hexo, Hugo or Jekyll are well-known, but if you want something a bit more "fit" for you, I'd recommend checking out Metalsmith.
As for the website hosting, you have a lot of available options due to the simplicity of hosting some dumb HTML pages and medias.
- Git hosts, like Github, Gitlab (my favourite), Bitbucket
- Netlify, Surge
- Some shared web hosting, like the base offers at OVH: When you buy a domain name, you have, for free, 10MB of space for a shared web hosting, which can easily serve HTML files. Buy a .xyz domain for less than 3€/year and have free hosting.
This can be a good starting point
You may've done nothing wrong, but since it's theirs, they can pretty much do whatever they want, including censorship or shadow-ban.
You have a FOSS tool that's awesome to work with. By yourself, you can take the time to set it up and learn how to maintain and use it. It's actually the case most of the time.
If this tool is interesting/useful enough to attract companies, they don't always have or want to have a service/person to set up, configure, maintain and debug this tool.
In that sense, companies making the FOSS tool can sell active support, maintenance and hosting, and I think it's perfectly fair here.
While branded as a "chat for gamers", the screen sharing, sound, conference and channels quality and tooling is far more versatile and superior to Slack.
Also taking the time to set up your project with what's just needed will allow to dodge a lot of bullets of breaking or useless dependencies, malicious dependency update tc.
Mistakes and crashes happens, and I'd prefer to always be ready to handle and fix stuff instead of trusting that my own code would perfectly work.
If it's "too complex", you may be interested in reStructuredText, a stricter and more complete alternative to Markdown, that auto-converts well into LaTeX.
We do it in case there's some personal issues like work anxiety, stress etc. and helped a lot of people where I work at.
Such meetings are not "you'll be better"-logic, but rather bluntly putting everything on the table and discussing about every issue and how to handle it.
I'm gonna talk about your tool at work anyways, see what we can find useful in it, and I'll try to get back to give you a feedback if I can get something.
If there's any way in which I could make the app available on some other systems, it'd be nice to do so.
Which systems do you have in mind ?
A minimalistic and stable distro with up-to-date packages. I only regret the lack of SystemD, replaced by a system that I don't fully understand yet, but hey, learning.
- Don't have a macbook and neither want to spend 2k buying one nor want to spend the overpriced 100$/y licence - I like using Java and Kotlin, and since it's the de-facto standard for Android, which is the platform I want to target, it's just perfect.
Now, I exclusively host my infrastructures on:
- OVH
- PulseHeberg.
Most are custom blogs, I also source from HN, Lobste.rs, a french news feed (Developpez) and dev.to, and I also shamelessly provide my own blog under the category "Artemix".
You can import what you want from it.
