Just a person that is interested in tech stuff

Arrezz··on EU moving closer to Facebook ban
I honestly hope that Facebook is banned so that all the events and organizational stuff can go to a more open and honest platform.
Arrezz··on Volkswagen announces $20B effort to build its own EV batteries
It's going to be really interesting if the new startup EV companies will eventually win out in market share or if the older automotive companies will manage to pivot first. Feels like Tesla at this point is almost a lifestyle brand which changes the dynamics somewhat.
Arrezz··on Magic Deck of Cards with Bar Code Reader
Reminds me of a game called Card Shark that I recently played that was excellent! This type of combination of tech and altered physical goods is very cool.
Arrezz··on Ask HN: What's your favorite board game?
If you're looking for social deduction: Secret Hitler or One Night Ultimate Werewolf

If you're looking for turnbased strategy: Terraforming Mars or Twilight Imperium 4th edition if time allows

If you're looking for something quick and mathy: Hanabi

Arrezz··on Ask HN: The biggest mistake you have ever made?
How did you learn to identify such people? I think I have a hard time evaluating these things personally, I don't find anyone abusive/toxic. Maybe I'm just lucky?
Arrezz··on Europe wants a high-speed rail network to replace airplanes
I believe that this is a key part of a sustainable future in terms of climate impact but I really don't know if we have what it takes to pull off a project of this size. It's interesting that it seems like these type of large infrastructure projects were more on schedule and feasible a century ago.
Arrezz··on Why is Ukraine such an economic failure?
I find it pretty insane that countries can have shadow markets with no taxation that make up 50% or more of the total economy!
Arrezz··on Ask HN: How to find the email distribution list that promoted my site recently?
Reminds me a lot of an old Desktop widget I had that would tell me if I would need a jacket or not. There is something appealing about simple applications like these!
Arrezz··on [dead]
I wonder how the general public in the UK would feel about the virus if the queen had died early on in the pandemic from COVID?
Arrezz··on How to set up a blog with Hugo and Cloudflare, and why you should
I have been thinking about having a blog for a while now but I can't really see what benefits it would give me? Seems like a lot of effort for something not terribly rewarding but maybe that is me being ill informed.
Arrezz··on Will You Still Google in the Future?
I am really starting to believe in a future where we will yet again see multiple search engines compete for market share. As someone who is relatively young I can't even remember a time when that was a statement that would ring even remotely true. Truly exciting times, will be curious to see how Google will adapt to not having their cash cow. I think we will see lots of downstream effects of this as they try to maintain their lead but perhaps also pivot slightly.
Arrezz··on What can we learn from medieval prices and wages?
I love articles like this for making medieval fantasy settings that much more real! I feel like everytime you depart from it you have to have a good in world reasoning behind it, this is how you get the best fictional universes in my opinion.
Arrezz··on ‘Zero-click’ hacks are growing in popularity
I have always wondered if the increasing technical complexity of the world and the bugs it will bring is faster than the efforts of bughunters/security industry. Often times it feels like a losing battle but I would love to see some research on the subject, might be hard to get any solid data however.
Arrezz··on A Saudi woman's iPhone revealed hacking around the world
I have always wondered about how exploits like these manage to stay secret for any length of time? I would imagine that leaking such a thing could he very rewarding but I guess there is too much risk involved.
Arrezz··on Ask HN: Do you find working on large distributed systems exhausting?
I think our field is so broad that it is somewhat nebolous to talk about the average engineer. But from my experience taking car of such a large system with a large amount of requests and complexity is outside of what is expected of an average engineer. I think that there is an eventual limit for how much complexity a single engineer can handle for several years.
Arrezz··on Show HN: Sioyek – PDF viewer for reading research papers and textbooks
What would be the benefit of using this compared to something like Sumatra?
Arrezz··on How to Live a Full Life
This might just be my greatest fear, does anyone else have any great advice on this? I really enjoy multitasking and it feels pretty terrible when I just cook and nothing else, is there a good way of escaping this mindset except just grinding away?
Arrezz··on The Case Against Low Priority Alerts
We're dealing with these types of issues at my workplace and I'd really appreciate some solid advice on what to do. Doing what the article says and having as few of them as possible in production doesn't feel right to me? But at the same time if you have a lot of them it feels like you run into some The Boy Who Cried Wolf type issues.
Arrezz··on Kennedy vs. Nixon: The first 1960 presidential debate
What a stark contrast to the debates you see these days. I really like the close up on the faces, feels far more personal. Also hearing Nixon agree with Kennedys assessment and then moving on to explain where they disagree was almost surreal when you compare it to the first Biden vs Trump debate. I'm not sure how the quality of these debates have been historically though if someone can enlighten me? Perhaps this year is just an anomaly?
Arrezz··on Hello World
What is the history of the Hello World example program? I'm not sure why it's become this defacto example of syntax for every language. Maybe there is something else we could use as an example that would be more indicative of syntax but perhaps I'm overthinking it.
Arrezz··on Hard deadlines are not user-first
I have been struggling with scope creep for deadlines at my work, I am a junior dev and I have a product owner that means well but changes requirements several times and increases scope mid sprint. How do you push back against this in a nice and reasonable manner?
Arrezz··on Privacy Improvements in Matrix
I really hope that Matrix can succeed in the long run, I have been hoping for an open protocol for chat type services for a long time now. I feel exhausted just thinking about all the different chat services that I have to keep an eye on.
Arrezz··on What do ask during your interview
I've often found that asking things about the recruiters experience at the company itself is very enlightening when it comes to evaluating how it would be to work at the company. Questions like "What has been your worst day working for x company?" are sometimes a bit harsh but if you can fit them into the conversation they're great.
Arrezz··on Without Touching a Line of Code
I understand what you mean, sometimes I also get frustrated at the companies advertising their codeless service. I think that you have to realize that most likely you are not the target audience for these products. They are simplification tools that tend to break at some point of complexity where you are forced into the nitty gritty anyway. I think this might even be a reaction to the "Everyone should learn to code" type initiatives.
Arrezz··on NASA Wants to Send Nuclear Rockets to the Moon and Mars
How big is the added risk of toxic waste? I'm not sure how much waste is produced in relation to propulsion energy given but it must be quite small? And I imagine that during travel in space you could just dump that waste out into space considering the vastness of it all.
Arrezz··on Personal Data of Entire 16.6M Population of Ecuador Leaked Online
I wonder if these types of leaks will ever stop, the amount of companies out there that store large amounts of data is endless and I feel like it's bound to happen to a person in their lifetime if they engage with society in a normal way. This is a major problem in the very connected society that we have today and I see no clear solution barring very heavy fines to encourage security but I'm not sure how well that would go, does anyone have data on this?
Arrezz··on Amazon's Cashierless Store Ambitions and Investment Revealed
I wonder how much overhead you can lose when you don't have to have a cashier in a grocery store. I've thought about a grocery store that essentially doesn't have a warehouse section but instead is just a combined warehouse/store. I'm sure this already exists and I wonder how you handle the large pieces of machinery that you need to move the goods among regular shoppers?
Arrezz··on American English Dialects
I love these old looking very personal type of sites. It feels like in the age of SEO optimization these sites often get lost in the search engine results. I have always found these sites to have a surprisingly high amount of quality content that is hard to find anywhere else.
Arrezz··on Applying Netflix DevOps Patterns to Windows
It's always interesting reading about the DevOps Patterns that the FAANG companies use. Not sure how well they fare at the scale of companies that I am at though.
Arrezz··on Trump suggests 'nuking hurricanes' to stop them hitting America – report
At this point I'm not sure that I'd be surprised with any phrase being ascribed to Trump.
