Is there a book review site that actually has credible reviews of comedy books? I realized recently that it’s night impossible to find a useful comedy category.
I think being a Lead Engineer / Hands-on Engineering Manager is a natural progression path. It’s a bit like being a project manager and an engineer, so I think you’re being a bit harsh here. There’s plenty of paths forward. You can then move on to a staff engineer, principal engineer, and distinguished engineer or just CTO or founding engineer of a startup.
Instagram comments are not very good and rarely create a discussion, if that's what they're extrapolating it's going to the Meta-Graveyard pretty quickly.
I would venture further and say there are no shortcuts if you want to be successful and doing permanent and irreversible damage to yourself is not going to get you there. Success is rooted in persistence and consistency, not seeing hallucinations.
I’m going to dissent from the rest of the commentators and propose that a priest, a friend, a parent, somatic therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, etc, is likely still a healthier approach than papering over social ignorance or pathologies with psychoactive drugs. Though, I don’t align at all with chemical interventions in these sorts of things so I’m in a minority.
National Security being anything that can be deemed dangerous to the Executive Branch. A very broad stroke these days, that's even used to paint opposing politicians by both parties.
You would be surprised: a child that was difficult to provide for and had no future of providing for you in your old age wasn't that hard to discard even 100 years ago.
Using QUERTY after colemak is like being retarded, so after trying alternate keyboard layouts for a while, I'm just doing a hardpass on anything not QUERTY until we get rid of keyboards entirely.
I can't imagine ever moving to San Francisco or NYC for even twice the pay to be honest. Having to endure the NYC subway for another miserable summer is a big fat no from me (especially with how bad they've gotten in recent years) and with congestion pricing in place, it's pretty much a dead issue. SF is completely insane with real estate prices, so that's a big fat no as well. San Jose sucks, so no.
Remote First and Remote Forward is the future. Occasional onsite FTW. Do work-resorts/retreats for a week a few times a year, you're good. Have the robots do the manual labor, and if they're still not good enough, well this is YCombinator's Hacker News after all, get to building and launch yesterday.
After subscribing to absolutely everything and wondering where your paycheck is going every pay period, you sort of learn to just stop subscribing to anything at all. It's not cheap, you just learn the hard way you'll just make your paycheck evaporate otherwise.
I grew up in NYC with the most amazing public transport system out there in the world and still absolutely despised taking the bus. Try 100 degree 100 humidity summers while waiting for the bus or the inverse. It's really not compelling. Car > Taxi > Subway > Bus (I'd rather skip the trip entirely)
Our teens aren't this determined t use a banned platform, don't bet on them suddenly buying VPN services just to use TikTok. It's like saying "oh look Elon bought Twitter and suddenly the select few of our special users will flee to Mastadon as a result and Twitter is dead." Just a bad bet. Convenience is king.
I definitely don't understand why post-use regulation and cleanup fees aren't baked into the cost of doing business for these companies. We need to stop being reactionary in our capitalism and be proactive.
They even get the smell you might be shopping around and you are toast. This article is shit advice. I had Google recruit me for L6/7 and I was exuberant about it on LinkedIn, really really really bad idea to even mention it.
It really struck me that he was out that late on a Tuesday... could have been a mugging when he was on the way back home from something... but the time just doesn't feel right. A mugging on the weekend late night seems more likely for a variety of reasons. Then again, I've seen recordings of individuals with mental health issues that literally just randomly attack a stranger completely unprovoked, so who knows anymore.
What's realized about these gains if the company is blocking the sale of the stock on the secondary market? This is toilet paper these people were duped into thinking was worth something. Sounds more like a lawsuit.
