Ancient··on Launch HN: Odigos (YC W23) – Instant distributed tracing for Kubernetes clusters
Just saw the demo video, looks awesome. Is this tool from the future or some dark wizard tricks? Keep up the great work.
Ancient··on Show HN: General Task, a free task manager for builders (beta)
What's with all the excessive Google permission request ????

Select what General Task can access:

  - Associate you with your personal info on Google

  - See your personal info, including any personal info you've made publicly available

  - See your primary Google Account email address

  - View and edit events on all your calendars

This is too much to ask just to sign up.
Ancient··on Disney+ demands users’ age and gender so it can “deliver targeted advertising”
Why not change the age/gender data every 6 to 12 months to see how they deal with that =)
Ancient··on Disney+ demands users’ age and gender so it can “deliver targeted advertising”
I always use January 1st {Birth Year} (easy to remember) but I like this now too. Thanks
Ancient··on Which one of these will be the biggest “unicorn” failure ever?
Surprising Magic Leap is not in the list which was a failed "unicorn".
Ancient··on We compiled a library of realistic engineering take-home tests and ranked them
Perfectly articulated. Thank you!

Ancient··on Ask HN: Remote work credit? I built an app that the company thinks my boss built
No, because ... - Not all bosses are programmers. - No everyone knows about Git or how to use it. - Who regularly Git Blames lines of code to see who the author was? - Who would rather see the author name stand out in first line of code file versus doing Git Blame? - You can easily move the codebase without the Git history to another location (easy to delete the .git subdirectory).

So it's best to add the author name as many places as possible and distribute it.

Ancient··on EpubPress, turn web content into ebooks
Thanks for releasing this cool tool.

Some feedback: The plugin (via Chrome v100) could not render this HN post, thus the epub download was not useful.

Ancient··on Show HN: Screenity – Open source screen recorder and annotation tool
Outstanding tool, looking forward to using it much more. Excellent work on this!
Ancient··on A new way to control experimentation with dreams
Basically "Inception" alpha version.
Ancient··on Show HN: 53cr3t – self-destructing group chat
Interesting app.

You should allow the creator of the chat room to adjust the self-destruct countdown, so that users can choose between 30 mins, 1 hr, 6 hrs, 12 hrs, 24 hrs - and also provide a dialog to confirm the change. Also automatically add entry to the chat that the countdown has changed to self-destruct at [X] time.

Ancient··on Show HN: Office Noise Generator (when you miss your co-workers' noise)
Love this! Thanks
Ancient··on Show HN: Screen Sharing with Code for Teams
Fantastic app!
Ancient··on Show HN: Made this with my daughter to help kids ages 2 to 4 learn logic
I concur.
Ancient··on Show HN: Online Notepad for Developer
If this is open source, any chance we can package this with a Dockerfile and/or an image on Dockerhub? (i'd be happy to help with this)
Ancient··on Show HN: PortManager – Manage ports from your macOS menu bar
Looks good.

Suggestion: Allow users to test the application before paying by only displaying 1 or 2 open ports and below that show something like "XXX more open ports [Unlock]".

You could encourage users to pay by adding a quick feature to display:

- XXX standard open ports (ie: 21, 22, 80, 443)

- XXX unknown open ports

- XXX ports opened + closed past X minutes (monitoring)

The third line (open/closed) would be great for software that keeps opening/closing ports for unknown reasons, which could cause intermediate issues.

Ancient··on Show HN: Released – Automate the release process for your software
Great product, very streamlined process. Video intro was informative.

Ancient··on Show HN: Tile38 – Realtime geofencing and geospatial index
I'm curious to know where one gets such "heigh-support" data from?
Ancient··on HeidiSQL – GUI client for MariaDB, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL
I used the regular Sequel Pro for years but just recently switched to the nightly version, which usually it's stable and has more updates. I recommend the switch to nightly. They share the same DB configurations you have created, so no need to worry that you have to import/export.
Ancient··on Show HN: I taught my little brother JS, and he made this videogame in a week
I thoroughly enjoyed the little distraction. Great job and keep on hacking it! So much potential.
Ancient··on Ask HN: As a programmer, how do you know if you're a good one or not?
Check out: https://github.com/mtdvio/every-programmer-should-know
Ancient··on Show HN: My first HTML Demo
Great start! Keep it up, stay curious & continue learning. Try to learn a bit of javascript with a fun game tutorial like this: https://codecombat.com
Ancient··on Show HN: Instant Search on 10.8M Podcast Episodes
Please add a simple starring feature. So many episodes/podcasts to listen to much, and i'd love to star many which i find interested but no time to currently listen/download to.
Ancient··on Jid – Drill down JSON data incrementally
Bravo & Thanks! :D
Ancient··on Jid – Drill down JSON data incrementally
If only Jid & jq could get married <3 :)
Ancient··on Webhook Tester
Neato!
Ancient··on How the Web Became Unreadable
So much for Microformats (http://microformats.org) which people were once crazed about but I never see developers concerned or interested in. :(

Maybe it's my perspective that it's not widely implemented or talked about in blogs, though I see WordPress has plugins for it. We (the web community) should (should have) pushed more towards a larger usage -- it's not too late folks.

Ancient··on Abstract visualization of biological neural network
Everyone complaining or fussing about how primitive this model is on a browser, ya'll need to chill out and stop taking beautiful work like this for granted. Some of you may say this is easy to do or why didn't he also "do this" or "do that" - how about you help out and make it better ;)

@sethbannon Thanks for the visuals and hard work!

Ancient··on In-Line Images in Messages – Facebook Patent Application
“Imma let you finish, but ...” this should not be patented, thus the application should die with fire! Don't get me wrong, I'm all for creativity and patent holding for unique innovations, but this is ridiculous.

How about I go ahead and patent my own "innovative" technique:

`:) @2x`

A high-resolution inline-image metacommunicative pictorial for multi-platform & multi-devices. (aka a "smiley" with large anti-alias font)
