AmazingTurtle··on Study: ChatGPT outperforms physicians in quality, empathetic answers to patients
"she"?
AmazingTurtle··on Ask HN: People who were laid off or quit recently, how are you doing?
You can use vicuna-7b-1.1. No need for chat prompts. Just slam in your data and end it off like so

Generate a JSON with this and that {"this": "

Lower the temperature to minimum for deterministic results, fine tune the other parameters if needed. And have a stop token for JSON closing tag like so }.

That usually works perfectly fine for me in most scenarios. Best: that stuff runs on RTX 3080 with 15token/s (quite fast!). Also vicuna-7b is pretty much as good as gpt-3 when it came out.

AmazingTurtle··on Launch HN: Metal (YC W23) – Embeddings as a Service
I tried out milvus. Developer Experience is crap. Documentation lacks some major core concepts. I've been experimenting with it for hours. Eventually I turned my back and said: Why not use pg_vector and scale the fuck out of the cluster? That should bring.. equal performance, as the pg_vector implementation is written in c and the comparing algorithms wouldn't differ too much from milvus.
AmazingTurtle··on Launch HN: Metal (YC W23) – Embeddings as a Service
Yeah I also don't understand why there are tons of (YC backed) startups providing little to none value. They basically man-in-the-middle the OpenAI GPT Platform. So... Yeah I've been running a pg_vector database with OpenAI Embeddings for 6 months now and I'm a solo hobby dev who experiments with it. Guess I could've built a startup with that knowledge L M A O
AmazingTurtle··on Launch HN: Metal (YC W23) – Embeddings as a Service
Wow, seems like YC is backing anything these days
AmazingTurtle··on Jailbreaking ChatGPT with Dan (Do Anything Now)
smells like a fake reply
AmazingTurtle··on It seems that the good times for online Minecraft play are over
I don't understand these people down here who appreciate Minecraft for what they are trying to do. In cs:go there is a way better system. If other people mute you (because for whatever reason) too often, you become muted by default for every game you join. People can unmute you on their behalf. Thats a reputation based system. And banning someone from a years old account, memories attached etc. will just get people mad at you. There's better systems.
AmazingTurtle··on Amazon putting a three-day pause on reviews for Rings of Power
> An elf is a type of humanoid supernatural being in Germanic mythology

> The word elf is found throughout the Germanic languages and seems originally to have meant 'white being.

Lmfao how is a black elf not woke https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elf

AmazingTurtle··on How and why I built Japan Dev
"We're sorry but Japan Dev doesn't work properly without JavaScript enabled. Please enable it to continue."

Nope. You want people to read your stuff? Don't force javascript onto them.

AmazingTurtle··on Using a catch-all domain is a mistake
lmao when u cant remember the email used, you should probably consider using a password safe
AmazingTurtle··on No Dislikes has officially ruined YouTube for me
Yeah also it just so happens that when I scroll through my feed, I pass by videos I have already seen or where I actively decided NOT to watch them beause they were prompted to me already 20 times or so and I still won't click it. It's to the point where I hit the "I dont wanna see this" button on a video because youtube keeps pushing VERY hard to make me see certain videos. Recommendations are trash. I used to find videos I like to watch within seconds but nowadays its just endless repetetive scrolling and nothing of interest.
AmazingTurtle··on Show HN: 50x50.space a public board to doodle together
Vercel is great. The dev just most likely fucked up his code thats why you're getting 500 on the API.
AmazingTurtle··on Spotify deletes 70 Joe Rogan episodes
Yeah I've encountered people that tell me "it's their choice if they leave spotify if rogan wasn't censored" like that wasn't a prime example of cancel culture. The worse thing is that they think they are in the right. Eventually you if you can convince them that its censorship, they will counter that there was nothing wrong with censoring people "[... because of x]". No reason or whatsoever legitimates censorship in my opinion.

I also get cancelled on several forums on a regular basis when I say bad things about pharmaceutical companies or against government etc. even if it's completely neutral. I've seen all reasons already to censor me: - insults - conspiracy - talking about controversial topics in general

none of those were true, ever..

AmazingTurtle··on web0 manifesto
Saying that NFTs and blockchain were "right-libertarian" is just polemic. Why is HN offering a public space for /pol/?

Please take your agitation elsewhere, guys.

AmazingTurtle··on Ask HN: Have you accepted the TOS that give FB access to your WhatsApp data?
I deleted my facebook account 6 years ago or so and nobody noticed it at all. It's been a platform solely to consume shitposts and stalk others - that's it. Therefore my account deletion went completely unnoticed :)

However, unfortunately, I still use WhatsApp to this day - because of convinience.

AmazingTurtle··on Nomad vs. Kubernetes
Nomad vs kubernetes is like comparing apples with pears. They actually say it in their docs, that kubernetes is a complex solution whereas nomad isn't. For example when building a frontend, you don't go with react or building everything yourself, you use a framework that brings plenty of things at once that play well in an eco system. What's the matter of bringing a ton of hashicorp tools together manually? You can just use kubernetes. I'd say setting up kubernetes is just as complex as putting together a bunch of hashicorp solutions. And ultimately people (the majority) simply love all-in-one solutions
AmazingTurtle··on PHP: A fractal of bad design (2012)
I used to laugh at this when I was in high school. This is so old and most of it is outdated. Please... Don't post those dead old links.
AmazingTurtle··on Show HN: I created a URL shortener that can be entirely hosted on GitHub Pages
Interesting, I just did http://nlsn.cf/54.

I just found a "bug" that can be abused (in chrome at very least).

URL('http:53') returns https://0.0.0.53 (it casts the int32 number to an ip address, dont' ask why). But window.location.replace behaves differently and treats it as a relative URL.

AmazingTurtle··on Qwant: The Search Engine That Respects Your Privacy
yet another one. duck duck go? meeeen
AmazingTurtle··on Kubernetes: Make your services faster by removing CPU limits
You can test out your shit by creating a new node with the recent kernel version installed. Then schedule some apps for testing on that node and see if everything works. Swap it out when you're done testing.
