Alphasite_··on HTC Vive Headset Nearing 100,000 Sales
You could argue the poor battery life and lack of third party apps as a significant detractor.
Alphasite_··on HTC Vive Headset Nearing 100,000 Sales
1. GPUs certainly have halted in price.

2. Mobile VR will probably be the vehicle for mass adoption. From what I remember GearVR has hit over a million units.

Alphasite_··on HTC Vive Headset Nearing 100,000 Sales
There are definite points of contention on this. The Vive headset doesn't face nearly as significant a glare issue as the rift, it is far better for glasses wearers than the rift and for some people the improved brightness is a significant advantage.

Integrated audio is definitely nice, but not a deal breaker and the improved ease in reaching a comfortable setup is definitely and advantage, but it makes trade offs in other areas.

You could split hairs about where the trade offs were made (fov vs SDE) but the displays and optics are so similar that those dont matter.

Alphasite_··on Android is imploding, and there's nothing that can be done to stop it
Race to the bottom absolutely screwed the PC industry. It's why laptops stagnated so heavily for years.

Alphasite_··on What's New in Swift [video]
Its mostly because CGFloat can be of different sizes (float or double) depending on architecture, so can be assumed to be neither a double nor a float exclusively.
Alphasite_··on Valve funding VR projects, exclusivity-free, with pre-paid Steam revenue
Well oculus was well on its way after its Kickstarter, but the they sold out. Good for them, but it sucks for the rest of us.
Alphasite_··on Window Snapping in macOS Sierra [video]
Becuase most people struggle with multiple tabs, imagine how painful multiple tabs in multiple windows may get.
Alphasite_··on Apple File System
It may, or may not, have it but I very much doubt there isn't room to retrofit it where appropriate.
Alphasite_··on What would it cost Apple to make iPhones in the U.S.?
Because you want to be the one holding the factories when the end game hits.
Alphasite_··on An unofficial WWDC app for OS X
Electron is the current fad for web devs creating desktop apps, so he's saying its a nic change to see someone actually implement a desktop app actually using the native desktop toolkit and metaphors and not what ever ill conceived platform alien system they've developed.
Alphasite_··on Wells Fargo's Bid to Vanquish Screen Scraping
There are definitely plenty of public Apis as well, for example: rbs.openbankproject.com

Chrome OS is to Linux what iOS 1.x was to Mac OS.
Alphasite_··on Britain is the most corrupt country in the world?
Honestly, they've been cutting government expenditure pretty heavily across the board (to the best of my knowledge) and military expenditure is way down.
Alphasite_··on Nvidia CEO: We'll be solving VR immersion problems for the next 20 years
There are already headset only solutions, but who knows how well they run.
Alphasite_··on JVM JIT optimization techniques
Does their exist a JVM with an OS level shared heap, to reduce GC overhead? Obviously each can be collected independently of one another so pausing shouldn't be a significant issue and IPC becomes a Normal heap reference which may aid in performance.
Alphasite_··on JVM JIT optimization techniques
Just to demonstrate an example of invalid code?
Alphasite_··on JVM JIT optimization techniques
Hot spot is based on a relatively old paper at this point from what I remember and there are alternatives which purportedly perform better.
Alphasite_··on How big an issue is the nausea problem for VR products?
I would suggest a positionally tracked headset as the absolute best test case.
Alphasite_··on How big an issue is the nausea problem for VR products?
There are consumer oriented research GVS headsets currently under development, Samsung had one at CES this year. From what've heard it's not hugely accurate, but the general sensation should be enough.

Is Graal not only faster than the Client JVM, but slower than the server VM?
Alphasite_··on JVM JIT optimization techniques
Escape analysis is pretty damn capable if you can give it enough time to run.

I think the test may have bugged out. The minimum recommended spec is significantly higher than what you have.
