AliCollins··on Mod – A paper notebook that syncs to the cloud
The original idea (then called Draft) which went to Kickstarter mentioned OCR (see http://needwant.com/p/draft-from-zero-to-kickstarter-in-5k/) but I don't see anything about it on the current website.

AliCollins··on Failure Is The Engine That Drives The Future
So how did you get over "the fear" and out of the comfort zone of regular work (assuming you don't get pushed!) and actually start taking these risks? Is the fear of failure a sign of lack of entrepreneurial spirit, or just a sensible weighing up of current priorities?

...or not: "Upper Stage of New Falcon 9 Rocket Did Not Explode After Launch, SpaceX Says" http://www.space.com/23038-spacex-falcon-9-rocket-explosion-...
AliCollins··on Interactive map of all scientific papers from the arXiv
This appears to be a great tool, for instance, for visualizing how widely an author has posted across a subject area. Nicely done!!
AliCollins··on Software documentation as a guidebook
Does anyone think of Documentation as a feature? When documentation - which is typically not the most fun bit of a project - has to be fought for by the developers, to have any more than the most basic hand-wavy guide to what's going on can seem an unnecessary luxury...or so management may think!

But then do I make it a point to make sure my code IS well documented? Maybe another resolution for this year..!

More than just a little "oops" then?! Should Google be sandboxing the Sync service, and other similar potential non-essential processes that could take down the browser? (Assuming that Sync is not an essential process?)
AliCollins··on $199 Acer C7 Chromebook
In the general Google USD to GBP conversion, that would be £199...typical!!
AliCollins··on Hunting Down My Son's Killer
Seriously, one of the best stories I have read on the web. Thank you for sharing this with us all...and hoping for better news in the future!

AliCollins··on Incanter: Clojure-based, R-like statistical computing environment for the JVM
Is there anyone who is using Incanter in a production environment as yet?
AliCollins··on Android Design
Likewise on my XP Laptop in Chrome...and I have Roboto TrueType font installed. Then un-installed the font, and it looks far better!!

Does HN have a "mechanism" for tracking how people flag posts? Like if someone is an active "flagger", but doesn't upvote, does that get noted at all and affect their ratings??
AliCollins··on Agile Licencing
Would Agile Licencing work for other "Technical" courses, or do you think that there is a good reason for holding onto the reigns to make sure certain quality is maintained?

For instance, was thinking about certification - is it useful to be "certified" (!!), or is it better to have attended (or run) a course with materials that have evolved to be better each time the course is run?

AliCollins··on Review this startup - Gift Certificate Factory
I saw this, and though I have no connection to the company I thought I'd see what you all thought. Well, sometimes it's nice to be nice!
AliCollins··on When you want to quit because it's just not worth it
Has anyone reading this quit a startup because of a similar experience? Or do you want to quit your current startup??!
AliCollins··on Mea Culpa: GitHub works well, my mistake made them look bad
Nicely done, sir. Assuming all present here are human (!), we all screw up...something to do with the programming, I guess?!
AliCollins··on IPv6 is here
So when does the entire internet fall apart then?! Millennium bug, anyone..??!
AliCollins··on A paradoxical math ratio
Though it's a nice bit of interesting Maths for a Tuesday afternoon!
AliCollins··on The Joel Test: 12 Steps to Better Code (2000; Still relevant?)
I have a print out of the 12 rules on the walls in my cubicle...if only for those non-techy people in my office who then ask what it means!!
