Akaahn··on Elon Musk owns 9.2% of Twitter
2nd according to https://whalewisdom.com/stock/twtr, behind CALAMOS ADVISORS LLC. Though they are listed as a PRN, not sure what that means.
Akaahn··on Arti – An implementation of Tor in Rust
Using crypto is a good thing in my eyes, but you seem to be convinced that crypto is all evil and a scam.

We've seen in recent years that fiat payment systems are ran by bad actors, that will on a whim revoke access to their systems to any entity they deem "problematic", even if no laws have been broken.

Crypto allows entities to freely exchange money without having to worry about passing some arbitrary purity test or getting witch-hunted into oblivion.

Akaahn··on McDonald's and Coca Cola halt business in Russia
Sounds like Russia's on the winning side of this war.
Akaahn··on GoFundMe Statement on the Freedom Convoy 2022 Fundraiser
Suppression of wrong-think, nothing new when it comes to GoFundMe.
Akaahn··on Anti-Vaxxers, QAnon Influencers and White Nationalists Are Flocking to Substack
The Institute for Strategic Dialogue is a London-based think tank concerned with extremism.

Labeling everyone who disagrees with you an extremist is certainly one strategy...

Akaahn··on Europe Is Entering a Death Spiral: How Immigrants Can Save It
Seems like pouring fuel on fire.

What is causing this so called death spiral is in part mass, uncontrolled immigration by immigrants who often refuse to learn the local language and participate in the country's culture. Driving up the cultural divide and putting a heavy pressure on an already stressed social system.

Akaahn··on Health ministry warns of vaccine's side effects (Japan)
Well, at least there is one country willing to take this seriously.
Akaahn··on Twitter is funding an open and decentralized standard for social media (2019)
I don't know if there are any updates on this specifically but, "decentralized internet standard, like SMTP" sounds an awful lot like ActivityPub.
Akaahn··on Facebook failing to protect users from Covid misinformation, says monitor
Always has been.
Akaahn··on ProtonMail launching ProtonChat, ProtonDrive, ProtonWallet, and more
Good for them I guess, but after the whole French activist debacle, I've gotten the heebee-jeebees regarding ProtonAnything.
Akaahn··on Is Star Wars Cultural Appropriation?
No.
Akaahn··on Unreal Tournament 2004
Truly one of the greatest, sad to see how things have changed.

Back then you got a great game and the devs just gave you all the tools to mod it how ever you wanted. It even managed its own mods to some extent, auto-downloading everything you needed when joining a server.

Today it's all about rootkit anti-cheats and controlling the game and everything surrounding it with an iron fist, as to best monetize every little aspect of the game. No mods, no custom maps, no nothing, because everything has to be catered to give the players "the best experience".

Akaahn··on The Digital Human – Devotion. BBC Documentary on Terry Davis
Surprise surprise, BBC takes a grand topic like Terry A. Davis and TempleOS and devolves it into a discussion about him saying racist things.
Akaahn··on Ask HN: What is fair payment? How should employees be compensated?
Hard to say without more details (currency and or location). What I would do is check with acquaintances (former colleagues, friends from uni, etc) what they are paid, assuming they have similar professional experiences. But it also sounds like you live in some overpriced hellhole, assuming you're paid at least a half way fair wage. Do you really need to live where you do? Check living costs of less central locations.
Akaahn··on Florida bans transgender girls from school sports [original BBC headline]
Sorry, maybe my first comment was formulated poorly. My comment was mainly targeted at the BBC, that they where being misleading with their title.
Akaahn··on Florida bans transgender girls from school sports [original BBC headline]
Really misleading title, as the first line in the article says, this isn't a ban from sports, but from biological males who have transitioned (in one form or another) from participating in female sports at public schools.

Florida has become the latest US state this year to ban transgender girls and women from participating in female sports at public schools.

Akaahn··on Ask HN: How can I store files securely?
Sounds like VeraCrypt would be a perfect fit for you. Not sure if it supports Touch ID, but pretty sure it ticks all other boxes.

Akaahn··on Ask HN: Best ways to start learning Rust?
Read (and understand) the book; https://doc.rust-lang.org/book/

Then apply whatever knowledge you have from previous languages.

Akaahn··on Startups are pummeled in the ‘great unwinding’
Startups are having their great reckoning. No longer can they just come up with fancy catch lines, and get bought by a billion dollar company. Now they actually have to provide something unique, something useful, something worthy of them actually being acquired.
Akaahn··on [dead]
Like when he called that Brit a pedo? The stocks will recover within days, because virtue or not, Elon is profitable, and it will be like nothing ever happened.
Akaahn··on [dead]
That's my point. Elon, the billionaire, the head of Tesla, the head of SpaceX, acts like a normal human, he takes a drag of "the unmentionable that the left wanted to legalize for decades, and now it finally is legal in certain states, didn't want 'him' to partake" because he's not a communist, and also he enjoyed some liquor, like most adults do on a daily basis.

A certain subsection of people have their world collapsing around them, and all they can do is try to shift blame. "He smoked weed, in a state where it is legal, we totally didn't want him to do so, because he's rich, unlike the rest of us "Mary Jane" lovers"

Akaahn··on [dead]
How ever will we cope. I mean, it's almost like Elon is a simple human like the rest of us. Only he's worth billions, and I'm barely worth more than my 2001 Toyota Yaris.
Akaahn··on Ask HN: What do you think of Reddit's redesign?
We should just go back to 4:3 monitors, because according to "modern" web design, utilizing horizontal screen space is tantamount to devil worship.
Akaahn··on [dead]
Smells like jealousy.
Akaahn··on Tools for Exploring .NET Internals
Not as all-encompassing as all those tools, but all I've ever needed is, dotPeek + de4dot.
Akaahn··on Ad blocking is under attack
My web browser, my rules, if this triggers you, fuck right the fuck off.
Akaahn··on Ask HN: Have you successfully moved away from Google search?
Bing or DDG, at this point you can't go wrong, as long as it isn't google.
