AareyBaba··on Tesla Semi’s Enormous Battery Might Weigh 11,000 Pounds on Its Own
"Also EV trucks are allowed another 2k pounds" - Ah that explains the 82,000lbs mentioned in the Tesla demo. Max weight for conventional trucks is 80K.

There were about 10-12 concrete barriers as load in the demo each weighing 39,000lbs. So the weight being carried is around 40ishK lbs. So rough approximation - half the weight of the truck is load and half is the truck itself.

Client/Consumer CPUs(Ryzen) is just one business for AMD. The others are graphics (Radeon), datacenter (EPYC), and embedded (Xilinx, PS & Xbox consoles). The one year forecast will probably have to be adjusted based on current unexpected economic conditions but they will keep growing.

What folks don't appreciate is that AMD is on a roll. A clear roadmap and processes in place to execute like clockwork in tandem with TSMC. Intel can easily bounce back in about 3-4 years if they fix their foundry issues.

AareyBaba··on Intel plans thousands of job cuts in face of PC slowdown
10 years ago, phones, tablets were the big thing. But smart management realized that no one was making money without a full vertical stack. The choices were iOS or Android. Besides Apple and Samsung no one was making money from phone and tablet. On the other hand - high performance computing and data center was a growing market. So smart money put the bet on high performance chips where you could have >50% margins. That's why AMD cancelled all their low power tablet chips (both X86 and ARM) and focused on Zen and the datacenter.

<I wonder if the rain hitting Pakistan is "Spain's water" or if it's coming via a different atmospheric route. >

By golly, you might be onto something. If you look at a map, there is a straight line from Pakistan across the Arabian Sea, around Yemen, up the Red Sea through the Suez Canal and right across the Mediterranean to Spain.

So it is conceivable the rain in Spain stays mainly in the Balochistan plain!

AareyBaba··on Jiddu Krishnamurti – How to Live in This World
In the late 1800's there was increasing interest in mysticism and eastern religions in the West. One lady, Helena Blavatsky an Ukrainian co-founded a movement called Theosophy which made it's way to India and merged with a mish-mash of Indian nationalists and Hindu philosophers around 1880-1890.

As a young boy JD Krishamurthy (born 1895 in south India) was picked by leaders of the Theosophical Society of India as a 'vehicle' for an expected World Teacher. JDK quickly gained a following and wrote profound philosophical books that people found hard to understand which only increased his popularity among those seeking Eastern mysticism.

[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiddu_Krishnamurti

Like many Indian godmen and spiritual entrepreneurs, JD Krishnamurthy set out for the most lucrative market for his work: California. He spent the rest of his life churning out psychobabble and settled in lovely Ojai valley (having an affair with his best friend's wife). For a sampling of JDK's profound wisdom you should check out his quotes [3].

Here's a sampling:

“One is never afraid of the unknown; one is afraid of the known coming to an end.” ― Krishnamurti

“Real learning comes about when the competitive spirit has ceased.” ― J. Krishnamurti

“Tradition becomes our security, and when the mind is secure it is in decay.” ― J. Krishnamurti

AareyBaba··on Visa changes chargeback dispute program
Old process: Me -> Privacy.com -> My checking account

New process: Me -> Privacy.com -> Patriot Bank credit account -> My checking account.

My concern is I am forced to sign up for Patriot Bank credit services. Also Patriot Bank gets my checking account information.

AareyBaba··on Visa changes chargeback dispute program
They have switched to a new process with an intermediary 'Patriot Bank' in the middle. They pass your checking account info to Patriot Bank - somehow your transaction which was a simple debit is now a credit card transaction through this third party bank. Patriot Bank itself seems legit but I don't understand the process and have stopped using Privacy because of this change until I get my head wrapped around what is going on.
AareyBaba··on Visa changes chargeback dispute program
Are you comfortable with the recent change in Privacy.com ?

They are using Patriot Bank out of North Dakota as an intermediary. Previously Privacy.com would directly debit from your checking account. In the new process you are signing up for a credit card with Patriot Bank under the hood. They pass on your checking account info to Patriot Bank and somehow money gets exchanged. I don't fully understand the process and don't trust men-in-the-middle like this.

I wasn't satisfied with the information I got from Privacy.com customer service. Has anyone researched this and confirmed there are no shenanigans in the new process. I used to use Privacy for many years but stopped because of this.
