5ESS··on Apple's Plan for Third-Party In-App Payments Insufficient, Says Dutch Regulator
Apple should cut off all sales to the Netherlands entirely(physical products and digital). They should send a strong message that they will not be bullied by foreign nations trying to exert their will on it.
5ESS··on Xfinity Data breach detected through email alias service
> The email appears to have been sent from Teamnort@saless.cc. Interestingly enough when trying a WHOIS on saless.cc it appears the domain is not registered.

What?! That’s even more interesting than your main problem.

However considering your main problem I see 2 possibilities:

1. SimpleMail service was compromised

2. A local Xfinity store was compromised. I used to work at a telecommunications provider brick n mortar store and there was a common scam going around where sophisticated threat actors would call the store phone and convince the (low wage, low competence) employees that they’re calling from the “corporate office” and provide instructions to install a RAT, thus compromising the computer systems at the store. (There was no admin password on the computers, this was a franchise for one of the most popular US cellular companies in 2021, im positive this scam is still happening every day)

5ESS··on Ask HN: Gmail account security
In most cases it’s easy to social engineer hosting company staff into granting unauthorized access (even the major ones) all it takes is a bit of know-how and maybe a photoshopped ID. The weakest link in any security stack is always the human element. The fact that Google makes it impossible to get in touch with a human is why I trust it.

Try to login from a device that you used previously to login to other different accounts that you touched from the same device that was used to login previously.
5ESS··on Stray bullet kills English astrophysicist visiting United States
In some Arab countries this is a normal day time activity often done during weddings.

It’s because of an inner city gang culture. It’s primarily just one specific demographic in the US that glorifies gang violence and shooting. If we eliminate this demographic culture, the gun violence issue will be solved.
5ESS··on Many clothing donations end up in African landfills
How is this a problem? They get free clothes they would otherwise never be able to afford. Perhaps they should be grateful instead of expecting everything to be free forever.
5ESS··on Ask HN: Is it malicious to start charging $ for your previously free project?
Github has established a scary new paradigm for open source developers on 1/09/2022. Now developers are obligated to not introduce breaking changes into their own programs, otherwise their accounts will be suspended.
5ESS··on Ask HN: Is it malicious to start charging $ for your previously free project?
Good point however developer could still have decided to remove the MIT license and licensed code and re-write or remove those licensed bits entirely, and then start charging money for it. I wonder if Github would have still considered that malicious and suspended him for it? I guess it's some sort of new unwritten rule on Github: thou shall not remove features from one's own project that others depend on.
5ESS··on Google says Apple's iMessage and blue message bubbles dominate due to bullying
CALEA goes away because it doesn't apply to Apple. Apple isn't a phone or broadband company.
5ESS··on Ask HN: Is it malicious to start charging $ for your previously free project?
Seems a bit paradoxical how making your program cease to function for users who don't pay a fee (say $10,000) is considered fine, yet making your program cease to function entirely is widely considered a malicious act of malware distribution that results in your github account being banned.
5ESS··on Dev corrupts NPM libs 'colors' and 'faker', breaking thousands of apps
say, instead of making the new version of his program cease to function for everybody entirely, he decided that the new version of his program was no longer going to be free, and if users wanted to utilize the newest version they must pay a fee. Say he introduced code instead that checked if a license was purchased for the software, and if so the program works, and if not the program halts. Would this have been considered a "malicious" act as well? Is it wrong these days to charge money for your hard work?
5ESS··on Google says Apple's iMessage and blue message bubbles dominate due to bullying
What a load of garbage. There is a legitimate security reason to differentiate between standard SMS messages and iMessages. I for one like knowing whether the person Im texting is using Android(meaning all my texts are intercepted by the carrier and/or police), or if theyre using an iPhone(meaning all my texts are securely encrypted).

Google seems to place a greater importance on teenager's feelings than communication security.
