45h34jh53k4j··on German court rules Facebook use of personal data illegal
From the other side of the coin, I think if your business model is based on the exploitation of peoples data, the EU doesn't want your 'SV disruption'.

From https://www.wired.com/story/inside-facebook-mark-zuckerberg-... it would appear that these lessons are being learned, somewhat slowly.

45h34jh53k4j··on My professional opinion as a blockchain researcher: I don’t see the point (yet)
Or its hidden by RingCT -- confidential transactions (cannot see amounts transacted), and signed with a ring signature so you cannot determine the 'true' inputs and outputs. No reason that cryptocurrency needs to use transparent arithmetic.

The next gen of this is mimblewimble, in which you cannot even determine an individual transaction! The block tx's are simply an aggregate of transaction and balance states!

45h34jh53k4j··on Shelling Out: The Origins of Money (2002)
Poetic, or maybe he is the real Satoshi :-)
45h34jh53k4j··on What I learned from watching my iPad's slow death
what about nytimes or any of the other sites that have been compromised by malicious ad networks?

Its not safe.

45h34jh53k4j··on What I learned from watching my iPad's slow death
Cool, please let me know how i can update safari on my ios8 (ipad mini).

You can't -- and in this age the OS and the applications are an indistinguishable blob.

45h34jh53k4j··on What I learned from watching my iPad's slow death
I think something that is missing from this is that it is no longer safe in this time to use old software. It is an existential threat to your own information, which is increasingly linked to your personal device like a phone or tablet. You will be hacked by a drive by exploit, or a mutant ad network. Its no longer about risky behavior, simply existing today online with old software can put you at grave risk.

How long should apple support these devices? 5 years seems reasonable, and very few vendors of hardware offer anything like this.

I agree it sucks, and there is no reason a 5 year old ipad needs to be dead -- but in context this is fine. If you had a 5 year old car that allowed random drivers to stab you in the face remotely, people would replace their cars and not complain that this was a problem.

45h34jh53k4j··on CFTC and SEC Testimony on Cryptocurrencies [pdf]
After reading this, I am as bullish as ever on real coins, and hope this is a wake up call to those ECR20 tokens that are clearly unregistered securities.

You won't ever be using an ECR20 token as a currency, its such an absurd concept -- Why wouldn't you just use the native ETH if you wanted to pay with coin?

Look to projects that did not raise money via ICO, look to projects that are global building payment infrastructure.

More power to you SEC, may your elite cyber division put all the bad money guys out of business.

no, the finder person came forward and explained how they did it. was not a scam.

45h34jh53k4j··on Facebook is banning all ads promoting cryptocurrencies
Selling a large slice of the tokens to a small group of specific investors, such that they obtain a much larger price when these are listed. Because they were in so few holders from day0, and the 'auction' closed so quickly, price discovery entirely up to small group of 'investors'. Its birthing shark whales to steal from the little people.

This was back before the real real ICO scams, so it looks pure in comparison. 2017, what a year!

45h34jh53k4j··on Facebook is banning all ads promoting cryptocurrencies
sorry -- bat was a scam. https://medium.com/the-bitcoin-podcast-blog/a-look-at-the-ba...
45h34jh53k4j··on Robinhood Crypto – Invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies
Im watching the blackjack game for 9 years, year on year more people are winning and making big bucks. This game is clever because nobody can cheat.

Even time I think I should play another hand, some new technology gets invented that makes more money for the players in the game.

Even some of the scammy non-blackjack games that people keep making, which act like blackjack (and the players also keep making money).

But there is no way i will ever take part in blackjack because gambling is wrong and stupid.

45h34jh53k4j··on Apple, in Sign of Health Ambitions, Adds Medical Records Feature for iPhone
The problem is not governments accessing this data. Its advertisers and marketers.

I notice that the Wallgreens app wants your 'step data' so it an offer your discounts for being healthy.

How much is this a jump to Cancer/HIV status for 'discounts'.

45h34jh53k4j··on Show HN: PonziCoin, a transparent, decentralized Ponzi Scheme you can trust
It also got hacked because the contract was broken.

Its fine -- those that do not learn the histories of the past are doomed to repeat them

45h34jh53k4j··on Bitcoin May Split Many Times in 2018
Except the energy that has been burned in the last 9 years used to create them. The security comes from the need to spend as much energy to 'undo' them.

Where do alts (esp non POW alts) get their value? Because people want to trade them to get more bitcoin, which has value as per above.

You can keep repeating this circa 2014 argument 'not backed blah blah', but as yet it has not gone to 0, and likely never will.

45h34jh53k4j··on Bitcoin May Split Many Times in 2018
Its cool -- the only coins that will survive 2018 will be the ones with segwit, and thus, lightning network support.

Instant, near zero cost bitcoin lightning transactions on the bitcoin network makes all other coins look lame.

This is not science fiction, it is here today. $2 segwit tx to fund the channel, as many tx's for 1 satoshi after that until I exhaust the channel.

45h34jh53k4j··on Turning Down a Blockchain Job Offer
99% it was just some marketing drone wanting to find any developers to cut a ECR20 for their scamtoken. You are right to avoid this. BTW if any engineers read this, treat 99% of unsolicited 'blockchain jobs' as the scam that they are.

Cutting and pasting solidity smartcontracts doesn't make you a blockchain developer :-)

45h34jh53k4j··on Bitcoin.org removes “fast” and “low fees” from Bitcoin description page
No its not like IOUS -- thats just FUD that those big blocker bcash dweebs keep saying.

LN tx's are actually bitcoin tx's. Micro ones! Proper real bitcoin segwittx's! Secured by the network. Its just they are not registered on chain until the payment channel is closed.

45h34jh53k4j··on Half of the US government's financial assets are student loans
dont worry. put your funds into 'good money' like sensible cryptocurrencies and watch your savings multiply. that is how we will fight the crooked boomer system.
45h34jh53k4j··on Building for the Blockchain
Ethereum isn't useful for smart contracts; they are too expensive to call methods on chain and EVM is too inflexible and bug prone.

The only use for ethereum is shittokens, and you could practically coingen these for free, and trade forever. No load on the shared commons, isolate activity to the specific coin. The only advantage is the ECR20 standard that aids exchange integration.

SV is all a blaze about Ethereum, but I tell you, this too shall pass.

Long on other smart contract platforms, but not ETH.

45h34jh53k4j··on Stanford paper says rent control is driving up cost of housing in San Francisco
Now, I have not read the paper, but I would have thought the free market combined with sky-high wages and demand, combined with a lack of inventory, was the cause.

Rent Control surely just prevents local families from being muscled out by the tech employees?

45h34jh53k4j··on Telegram plans multi-billion dollar ICO for chat cryptocurrency
Moxie might have his own horse in the race, but his analysis of cryptosystems should not be questioned. His philosophy is around humans being able to access strong encryption. I believe he ultimately doesn't care what you use, as long as your communications are secure.
45h34jh53k4j··on Telegram plans multi-billion dollar ICO for chat cryptocurrency
It will be an eth token like OMG until they launch their 'main chain and 2^92 sidechains' LOL! good luck with that
45h34jh53k4j··on The dawn of online piracy (2015)
hey chill, i dont think its garbage. I detected no technical errors in this article. Napster did have an effect, but this article isnt about that, its about the RNS crew, who released so much stolen music in the 00s.

Its from the book "How Music Got Free", and probably has more details you are after.

45h34jh53k4j··on Yes, Amazon Echo Is an Ad Machine
the echo is pure evil -- in the same way the 1984 Telescreen is evil. It exists to control, manipulate and spy on you. If you dont see this, I am truly sorry my friend, but it is too late.

45h34jh53k4j··on Romanian Hackers Infiltrated 65% of DC Outdoor Surveillance Cameras
but there are so many things that have this 'irreversible' property in the real world. Identities. Secrets. Exploits. Once (hacked) you cant get the genie back in the bottle. I feel this irreversibility is what is of real value in an information economy.

Cryptocurrency is similar. Its 'real', unlike USD/EUR/etc, which are insured. At best its a record in a centralized db.

Please rethink your position on disaster :-) If 2017 is anything to go by, the world is more resilient to disaster than believed.

45h34jh53k4j··on Show HN: Cryptocurrency portfolio app on Blockstack
Yeah, nah. Dont store your coins in sites or dapps or anything that you do not control 100% yourself.

The best option for folks today is exodus.io, which is a multicurrency platform-ind js wallet. You control 100% of the key material and control the funds.

There is also jaxx and coinomi.com that can act as multi-currency wallets.

45h34jh53k4j··on How the Winklevoss Twins Found Vindication in a Bitcoin Fortune
The most interesting thing for ne about this article is they use a dynamic bitcoin price ticket inline. Ive never seen that in an mainstream article, it always looks so dated when looking negatively at $100 or $500 bitcoin...
45h34jh53k4j··on There are now more than 200k pending Bitcoin transactions
This is referring to the minimum cost in fees for a transaction to get copied from the mempool to a block. Only when a transaction is in a block is it a valid transfer of bitcoin. Its nothing to do with trading or exchange rates or energy costs or fiat.

Bitcoin is working exactly the same as it has always, however now because of the backlog, transaction fees are very high. In the order of Western Union + Visa Fees + Bank Wire fees all at the same time!

I made a very small transaction for a friend a week ago (~$50) and paid $2 USD in fees. That is not enough and the transaction will sit waiting until the backlog decreases, it may never clear.

Bitcoin is kind of broken right now.
