38932ur98u··on How to Balance Money and Meaning
Damn, I would have loved for this article to have any substance. As someone who has been doing consulting the last two years, these kinds of questions are always on my mind. And I have no good answers.
38932ur98u··on Smart sunglasses with lenses displaying real-time data for cyclers
What? No. Competitive cycling was birthed in Europe.
38932ur98u··on Facebook-owned sites were down
This event should be a good conversation starter on how horrifyingly monopolistic this trifecta of services has on worldwide communication. When I think through a random smattering of people in my contact book, I now have no way of contacting quite a few people at all. That's fucked. I wonder how many important messages, replies, etc will be screwed up due to this.
38932ur98u··on Social media are turbocharging the export of America’s political culture
Thanks.
38932ur98u··on Jeff Bezos will step down as Amazon CEO on July 5th
No, not cynical at all. This is one of the most legally unethical people on the planet.
38932ur98u··on Plotting the source code “TODO” history of the most popular open source projects
Would be interesting to add major release versions to the graphs as well
38932ur98u··on Italian towns will pay you to work remotely
Did you read the article? This is something entirely different than the whole one euro house hype.
38932ur98u··on Ask HN: What tech job would let me get away with the least real work possible?
Great post OP, one of the most relatable things I've seen on HN. To piggyback, does anybody here have any experience doing this while living in Europe as an American? Seems like there are generally fewer remote jobs here, especially ones that can be 60-80%.
38932ur98u··on State-of-the-Art Image Generation Models
Even training on a few hundred photos?
38932ur98u··on State-of-the-Art Image Generation Models
Sort of related, but I'm looking for a library or tool of some sort that I can use to generate landscape photos. I don't really have a lot of time to put into a project right now, so I was fantasizing about stumbling across some python library that's a wrapper for one of these models that's basically as simple as

import all_photos from "./photos"; model = train(all_photos) a = model.generate();

Anybody have any leads..?

38932ur98u··on The Airbnbs
Honestly I'm a bit shocked as well. It's in these kinds of threads that it comes out how out of touch a lot of people on HN are with the impacts of their money, and actions. Praising airbnb founders reads like praising Trump to me. Sure, successful in the literal most possible sense, but they have no idea all the harm they are inflicting on those who live different lives than them, in places and cultures they don't understand.
38932ur98u··on LinkedIn’s Alternate Universe
Please do this, I'd love to read it.
38932ur98u··on How much I made as a good Engineer at Facebook
How do we solve this problem? How do we prevent, or at least discourage, people from turning a blind eye to the ethical implications of working in a dystopia accelerator company like FB when job options elsewhere are plentiful?
38932ur98u··on A case for using punctuation in Slack
Actually something I've been wondering, as somebody learning German right now: are there equivalents to this kind of slang in online German? Would you _ever_ leave a noun, for example, uncapitalized, for a more casual feel?
38932ur98u··on Ask HN: What are you learning?
Ukulele/music theory and spanish
38932ur98u··on Ask HN: What Skills to Acquire in 2020?
I'm interested in this. Do you have a template?
38932ur98u··on Climate Change Is Killing Alpine Skiing as We Know It
It always makes me sad to see realistic comments like these downvoted on HN by the out of touch 1%. Does a leisure activity enjoyed and easily substitutes by an exceedingly small minority of people really hold anything against the other devastating effects of climate change?
38932ur98u··on Ask HN: Have you found success and a good work life balance?
How did you find such a gig?
38932ur98u··on What happens when your career becomes your whole identity
This is a fascinating difference. I never really stopped to consider how individualistic a lot of western art is.
38932ur98u··on CSS Utility Classes and “Separation of Concerns” (2017)
Thanks for the fantastic library! I've really enjoyed using it and it has sped up dev time phenomenally. However, I am curious: what is it like using tailwind on huge projects? I can imagine with many developers working on a codebase the "extract repeated patterns to their own new class" philosophy can get easily ignored, or difficult to track where some series of classes is being repeated.
38932ur98u··on Facebook is using the iPhone’s camera as users scroll their feed
Somebody explain this to me, as I've never worked at a large company. Facebook has tens of thousands of employees. How is more not known about the extent that they track you like this (and other slimy practices)? I imagibe if somebody leaks something it would be impossible to pinpoint who exactly did so. Does really nobody whistleblow?
38932ur98u··on Parenting: Who is it really for? (2017)
I don't want kids at all (at least right now in my life, I'm 25). These ideas are however a pretty strong counterpoint to my negative feelings: that you can completely shape a human brain from birth using your 30 years or whatever of experience on this planet. Hopefully giving this brain a lot of perspectives that you wish you'd been with all your life. I see this explicitly sometimes living in Europe, some parents will raise their children to be tri or quad lingual. I'm absolutely beyond jealous that my parents didn't give that to me (although I have a lot of other things to be grateful for, so I can't complain)
38932ur98u··on Induction of self awareness in dreams through low current stimulation (2014)
Interesting. How would this be related?
