31reasons··on Facebook apologises for removing breast cancer awareness video
Yup our cows and our women should be in good health.
31reasons··on Ask HN: Is Swift worth learning if I'm not into iOS development?
You do realize that Swift is open source now right ?
31reasons··on Details Emerge on China's 64-Core ARM Chip
You could say this now that China has made trillions of dollars doing business with English speaking world. Why didn't you insist then that everyone learn Chinese if they wanted to do business with Chinese companies ?
31reasons··on Not Saying Winter Is Coming, but Where’s Your Coat?
>>Get as close as you can to spending nothing.

Are you suggesting farming ?

31reasons··on Not Saying Winter Is Coming, but Where’s Your Coat?
I am in exactly the same boat. Advanced CS degree with high-demand skill set and live in CA but struggling to find job for last 2 months.
31reasons··on Recalibrate Your Productivity Sensors

31reasons··on Ask HN: Family friendly beach town in California?
San Clemente is pretty nice, laid back beach town. House prices are also not too crazy. Closer to Irvine/ New Port Beach.
31reasons··on Ask HN: Are the Pokemon Go articles real, or is their PR firm amazing?
Pied Piper moment of technology (the original story not the HBO show!)
31reasons··on Ask HN: What's your favorite way to save money?
Its been said many times that you should never start startup to make money. The opportunity cost and uncertainty makes its a very risky way to make money.
31reasons··on Re-reading Kahneman's “Thinking, Fast and Slow”
I guess we are victims of Halo Effect as he described in the book! He won the nobel prize so we think whatever he writes must be true.

Weak standards of evidence also made me bit uneasy throughout. But my System 1 just trusted the whole book because everyone seems to be liking it. Case of Social Proof i guess.

31reasons··on China issues demolition order on world’s largest religious town in Tibet
Of all people the residents of the town will be the least unhappy about it. Because they truly know everything is impermanent. Its their practice and will see it as part of nature. Today I shall not buy anything Chinese. I wish there was a supermarket that sold things not made in China.
31reasons··on AI, Deep Learning, and Machine Learning: A Primer [video]
Thats amazing. Yes something like that but for concepts. Merging Dolphin + Guitar Playing. Both have visual elements to it but also has conceptual elements.
31reasons··on AI, Deep Learning, and Machine Learning: A Primer [video]
One of the main challenges in Deep Learning is that it requires massive amounts of data, orders of magnitude more data than a human toddler to detect a cat. It could be a great area of research on how to reduce the amount of data it takes to train the network.

One main thing it lacks is imagination. Humans can learn things and can imagine different combinations of those things. For example, if I ask you to imagine a Guitar playing Dolphin, you could imagine it and even recognize it from a cartoon even though you have never seen it in your life before. Not so for Deep Learning, unless you provide massive amount of images of Dolphins playing guitars.

31reasons··on Winding down the Swift 3 release
Swift uses LLVM as backend, so as far as I understand it can generate standalone binaries. No ?
31reasons··on Hacking industrial vehicles from the internet
Just like FDA we need public or private organization that certify all IoT devices for their internet security level.
31reasons··on Study Finds That Asians Take Fewest Vacation Days, Europeans Take Most
Thank you.
31reasons··on Study Finds That Asians Take Fewest Vacation Days, Europeans Take Most
True only in the absence of strong AI.
31reasons··on Study Finds That Asians Take Fewest Vacation Days, Europeans Take Most
Internet provides you access to unlimited amount of information that basically allows people to create their own automation solutions. Why do you have to depend on rich to provide it ? The whole idea of Rich and Poor is based on Scarcity of goods. When we enter the era of full automation, we will be able to convert Energy into any form of product without human intervention. Energy + AI = Products.
31reasons··on China's Bold Push into Genetically Customized Animals
Welcome to the gene race, just like the space race to keep creating more and more intelligent humans. Other countries will be forced to start their own research or fall behind economically, unless we end the race by inventing strong AI.
31reasons··on STEM to STEAM
I think 'A' independently has much lower value than when its combined with STEM skills (in terms of problem solving). If you are strong in STEM as an individual then adding 'A' would make you much more effective at solving problems.
31reasons··on Kill the laws that keep car dealers in business
Kill the laws that unfairly protects X business.
31reasons··on Mercury Spill
As a kid I often played with mercury used in a blood pressure monitor. Spilling it on the table and mesmerized by its look and feel. I am not sure what damages that might have caused to my brain now that I know its toxic!
31reasons··on The International Flag of Planet Earth
It looks like a logo of some bank.
31reasons··on Scientists have discovered why running makes you happy
eating between 8am-8pm ? thats entire day! How is that fasting ?
31reasons··on G is for Google
A for Apple! hmm does that mean they are going to acquire Apple ? :)
31reasons··on The next version of Safari will let users block ads on iPhones and iPads
I never click on Ads so from advertisers point of view I am using AdBlock. But that AdBlock is in my brain. When I use AdBlock on a browser it helps my brain. Advertisers don't care whether ad is on the side on inside the content, all they care is their ROI, so unless I start clicking on Ads I already run risk of getting ads in my content.
31reasons··on BingoCardCreator.com Sale Page
3 years in a very unpredictable field is a very long time. Anyone can come up with exactly the same product in much less time than before.
