Remove bootcamp from your resume. Its not for resumes, its primarily for gaining skills. No one will be impressed by Bootcamp. Give list of your projects but don't mention where you developed them. Just say, Self starter/learner. Bootcamp is a negative indicator, imho.

I can imagine people keep staying there if they have to feed their hungry children and pay mortgage in a very bad economy, but not just because its a "Cool" company.

It is very strange to me when I read these "Survivor" stories. I really can't relate to them not because I am a male and don't work in Silicon Valley but because I know I can and I have quit companies because I couldn't tolerate to work there. There is not fucking reason to keep suffering at a company for whatever reason. QUIT as soon as you feel unhappy let alone you come to a point where they "break" you. Are you kidding me? This is not North Korea. No one is forcing you to keep suffering. You are living in a goddam United State of America, and in a goddam Silicon Valley.

You may not know but as a foreign student you are not allowed to work outside campus. Those jobs are also limited and hard to get.

I agree to this. As a Non western student I never had any American friends in Collage. After more than a decade living in the US I still don't have any. Primarily because I am introverted but culturally I care less about American sports and music (two big cultural domains).

Edit: Another important factor (at least during collage) is the financial one. As a student from a poor country I had far less financial resources to afford a life style that American students enjoy. For example, I couldn't afford to go out or have a Car.

Its about having a choice. Open floors don't leave any choice for people who like to work quietly away from all noise. Not to mention some of us are little or a lot socially anxious which affects performance when there is lot of foot traffic.

In a place where primary place to work is office, still provides common areas where you can talk to your co-workers and have serendipitous conversations. People who seek social interaction find it anywhere, meetings, lunch etc.

Its about choice.

I wish there was a One Day hiring process. From initial phone screen to offer all in one day. Wondering if interviews taking so many weeks is just a logistics failure.
