2T1Qka0rEiPr··on Thoughts on Testing
> So I think it's fair to say that (despite certain engineering books and management directives) the optimal number of tests isn't as many as we can possibly come up with.

Are there really (mainstream, well-regarded) books which promote the idea of endlessly ideating and writing tests? This isn't a narrative I'm aware of?

2T1Qka0rEiPr··on The <Dialog> Element
In a previous life as a front-end developer using Sass, I had a single z-indexes module in which they would all be defined.
2T1Qka0rEiPr··on SBF Arrested by Bahamian Authorities
OK sorry bad terminology. Nonetheless from a legal authority. The SEC's press release (https://www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2022-219) is much more in keeping with what I would expect.
2T1Qka0rEiPr··on SBF Arrested by Bahamian Authorities
As an aside, isn't it a little weird for a legal document such as this to use his initials over something more formal like "Mr Bankman-Fried"?

Really made me chuckle. As a non-Apple user who has to put up with Homepods, this rings so very true.

About byrd:

byrd is a logistics start-up which aims to make shipping a simple and effortless experience.

Fulfillment warehouses and online sellers suffer from old and outdated software that is un-intuitive and hard to use. We want to change that by using state of the art technology to disrupt the European logistics industry!

We built a platform that connects multiple partner warehouses with e-commerce online shops. This logistic network helps our customers to ship more efficiently than ever before and enables them to provide the same high quality service such as online giants like Amazon or Zalando.

byrd was founded in 2016, is a successful series C startup with real customers, and we’re looking for your help to support us in growing further!

2T1Qka0rEiPr··on The business impact of code quality (2017)
I share your perspective. Ultimately, I see the situation as somewhat analogous to having a professional work on your house. You rely on their expertise to direct what is and isn't essential, and really lack any ability to measure the outcome (e.g. is this harder wearing material or building technique really worth the extra time and money).

Again, as you say, I think the solution is simply to develop trust with the stakeholders to whom you're trying to sell the ideas. Technical leads - in a unique position of understanding the costs and the benefits - must be vigilant to bat away the spurious claims that certain topics (such as those you mention) require addressing, as trust lost is difficult to recoup.

2T1Qka0rEiPr··on The Vivaldi browser will not support Google’s FLoC
Really informative read, thanks!
2T1Qka0rEiPr··on Firefox 85
I love all of the work that Mozilla do to make the web a better, more privacy focused place.

A little time tinge of disappointment though, is that the new Firefox for Android doesn't work at all with Lastpass' autofill. I've tried to find bug reports (https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/9773) but they don't give me a clear indication as to whether it's being worked on or not. Unfortunately degrades my experience to the point of using other browsers. It doesn't seem like the old Firefox is available via the Play store in the meantime either?

It's probably inevitable when you release a completely new version of something, but the small, missing features immediately become obvious/upsetting!

2T1Qka0rEiPr··on Chrome exempts Google sites from user site data settings
I would guess the OP is making the argument that as a single-mover he wouldn't see much benefit. But where institutions and governments intervene, they can encourage competition, and so improve the state of the lesser player, in addition to potentially crippling that of the dominant one.

An example to which I could relate in terms of this line of thinking is plane vs. train travel. Were subsidies to flow towards the train rather than the plane, it would make it more affordable for me to the environmentally better thing. However, as things stand, I frequently find it hard individually to justify the often much higher cost AND longer duration of the train over the plane.
