1angryhacker··on Angular JS Kinda Sucks
"Notice that we added a DOCTYPE to tell browsers what kind of document we have. We picked 4.01 Transitional because of its flexibility to allow deprecated elements, like <font>."
1angryhacker··on Angular JS Kinda Sucks
"Here’s an idea of pricing for you. I work on projects based on complexity. If you have 100 pages with simple text and images on it, the task is not complex. Just time consuming. So I consider that a complexity of 1, times 100 times. So, complexity is 100.

If you have one page with one complex interactive form, with a calculator, that grabs prices from out there on The Web, then it’s a one page design, but complexity of that one page is way high, depending on all of the features on it. Calculator, 2 points. Search 3 points. Connecting to databases and APIs, 5 points. You get the idea.

Both projects can be about 100 points. One more complex than the other, and one more pages than the other. And now for the prices:

$125 – $250 per point.

That’s it. Why the wide range? Depends on a lot of things. But, on average, I can do about 39 points in two weeks. Considering the overhead, taxes, etc, that comes to about $60-$120 per hour."

1angryhacker··on LibreOffice 4.2 released
They started iterating about 7 years ago, based on user feedback and ignored people whining.

UX is the most under appreciated area of open source software. It requires change, following/setting design trends and not listening to the majority.

1angryhacker··on PayPal Denies Providing Payment Information to Twitter Username Hacker

1angryhacker··on Our Culture of Exclusion (or, why I'm not going to *conf)
The author should probably lighten up, but I agree with the general sentiment.

If you want to drink, hang out with your friends. Your colleagues may also be your friends, or maybe your friends are in the tech scene too, but let's get real, software dev is a job, a career and it puts roofs over people's heads and food on their tables. Treat it with respect.

1angryhacker··on Ukraine crisis: Parliament abolishes anti-protest law
I wonder how many people upvoted this without reading primary sources, studying Ukrainian/Russian reports or using translation tools.

In fact, I wonder how many people commented on this without reading the laws in their own countries.

1angryhacker··on Linda Liukas' Programming book for Children has Huge First Day on Kickstarter
...so if it's targeted at children, 50% of children will take it up, thus the ratio of male:female programmers will remain the same, there'll just be more of them.

The book is aimed at girls. It would be nice to think that children were not conditioned by gender stereotypes at the age of 6/7, but unfortunately they are.

1angryhacker··on Linda Liukas' Programming book for Children has Huge First Day on Kickstarter
then why is the top comment banging on about solving problems for equality.
1angryhacker··on Linda Liukas' Programming book for Children has Huge First Day on Kickstarter
it would also be nice to see books and resources for children going up to about 14/15. It would be a shame to see a gap in their education when they can really get going.
1angryhacker··on Linda Liukas' Programming book for Children has Huge First Day on Kickstarter
a boys one would be great too, screw equality let's just get as many kids programming as possible.

Unfortunately not. I just enjoy watching technology eclipse another aspect of society.
1angryhacker··on Introversion is not the opposite of extroversion
How about we just stop categorising people.
1angryhacker··on UK Prime Minister: We have put in place Internet filters to block extremism
The actual quote:

The Prime Minister: We have put in place some of the toughest controls that one can possibly have within a democratic Government, and the TPIMs are obviously one part of that. We have had repeated meetings of the extremism task force—it met again yesterday—setting out a whole series of steps that we will take to counter the extremist narrative, including by blocking online sites. Now that I have the opportunity, let me praise Facebook for yesterday reversing the decision it took about the showing of beheading videos online. We will take all these steps and many more to keep our country safe.

1angryhacker··on Send Self Destructing E-mails
Cool idea, well executed. Has obvious flaws & security issues but it could be a bit of fun.

Anyone else find the landing page a little bit overwhelming for such a small app? All the pictures of people having a great time seem a little over the top?

1angryhacker··on How to get paying customers before you start writing code
One question on this- how many of the committed buyers actually pay, or at least subscribe for a minimum period of time?

I could imagine a significant # committing and then pulling out later on. I'd like to see some stats on that as a conversion rate.

1angryhacker··on Archiving URLs
The real danger here is that citing webpages creates significant risk that the content will be altered in future.

For example, to re-write a portion of history:

1. Scan wikipedia for any broken links

2. Purchase domains

3. Reinstate links with different content

4. Update wikipedia article to represent changed content

We need a method of publicly verifying the contents of a link at the time it was cited.

Could we do something similar to bitcoin? Where we have a publicly available hash of each site when cited?
