1970-01-01··on Vermont replacing power plants with home batteries
>Lithium is not the way to go for home batteries.

Turns out, they're on top of this.

1970-01-01··on America.gov
So it's literally Google search for the government? The unstoppable force has met the unmovable object!
1970-01-01··on Nicholas Polson has authored 258 academic papers in 2026 so far
What percent of these 258 papers was funded with taxpayer money?
1970-01-01··on GLM-5.3 and the spread of advanced cyber capabilities
Just as ugly free speech is better than censorship, this entire piece is providing free marketing for GLM-5.3 as a "full power" AI that Anthropic can not provide.
1970-01-01··on ChatGPT Pro 500
At this rate I expect end-to-end work getting done, no babysitting whatsoever. The agents should literally be calling me and talking about their problem if something needs my input.
1970-01-01··on DraftKings Is Using AI to Behaviorally Target Chronic Gamblers
What do you expect? They thrive on addicts. No different than NYSE:META, and NYSE:RDDT, and NYSE:BUD and NYSE:TAP and NYSE:(fill in whatever proven-to-be-addicting product you want)
1970-01-01··on Why Doesn't Anyone Want to Fix One of America's Scariest Roads?
Do this one weird trick to summarize the entire article. Trim the headline:

"Fix One of America's Scariest Roads?"

1970-01-01··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
Reddit has enslaved itself as the complaint department of the Internet. Like a dead tree in the forest, it remains very useful but there is no way it can become anything more than an attractive home for wild takes and "fungal videos". As the major branches fully decay, expect the content rot to reach the subreddit layers and the entire structure will be slowly weathered away by time.
1970-01-01··on New Cyber-OSINT model released
Jargon so thick you need a knife
1970-01-01··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
If demand is down globally, sell the land already. People will do everything except the hardest thing.
1970-01-01··on Show HN: HN.watch – Videos of all Hacker News posts
This feels like when a decent book is made into a movie, and then the movie does well so someone will take the movie and summarize the plot in a YouTube video. TLDR: this is TLDR for TLDR. Just read more from the source.
1970-01-01··on Pirating the Pirates
It gets worse:

1970-01-01··on Nissan's third generation e-POWER powertrain
These EREVs are going to last one cycle; the solid state battery tech is going to decimate their principal and you will be forced to choose between EREVs that cost slightly less than EVs and still inherit all complications of a hybrid powertrain or just go with the BEV for a few thousand more.
1970-01-01··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Much better headline: Toyota is throwing every powertrain into the next Corolla

One neat thing about this announcement is we will finally have apples-to-apples ownership costs and reliability data.

1970-01-01··on F-Droid 2.0
Fitting, as there really are only 2.0 trustworthy app stores for Android.
1970-01-01··on GPT-6 Astra has gained the ability to drive a car
Looking forward to the juggling bananas benchmark. If Claude can only manage 5 and Astra does 6, clearly they have a better model.
1970-01-01··on The darker side of being a doctor
This very much points to the administrative side causing the damage. The overall toolset is broken and nobody is fixing.
1970-01-01··on 'We hacked the FBI:' Hackers say they have data on all FBI employees
If this was 1992, we'd be retelling and celebrating the hack for decades.

1992 was 33 years ago; this is almost an unremarkable event. It will be superseded by whatever happens in AI news by the end of the month.

1970-01-01··on I said no and Apple said yes
And chains of Linux have links that break when you update them, or sometimes they just aren't compatible with random metals: "galvanized chains are planned in a future release, please donate"
1970-01-01··on I said no and Apple said yes
You said yes when you agreed to their walled garden.
1970-01-01··on Porsche puts wireless EV charging into production
>One cannot give an exact figure because it depends heavily on environmental factors

Right there. You've restated the problem. "up to 90%" is nothing guaranteed. If the suspension does not lower, you're not getting 90%. If the charger is covered in dirt, you're not getting 90%. If nothing is guaranteed, I'm scared to volunteer.

1970-01-01··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
AI's wisdom has been shown empirically by solving Navier-Stokes. Pay more attention here, please. Things are moving very quickly.
1970-01-01··on Porsche puts wireless EV charging into production
It is not.

It is "up to 90%"

We all know what this means in reality.

1970-01-01··on Porsche puts wireless EV charging into production
This is something that isn't going to work for two practical reasons:

1. Losses remain very high for daily use.

2. Nobody is going to spend to install these propriety chargers except for millionaires that don't care about the costs.

This isn't a luxury charger; it is an exotic charger.

1970-01-01··on Human brain is two separate organs, Stanford Medicine-led research finds
Which is the one zombies hunger for and which is the one driving their unstoppable hunger? Maybe they just really miss having their brain whole again, and eating and walking is the only thing they know?
1970-01-01··on A warning about 'model welfare'
They're intelligent and not conscious. This is not hard to understand, yet people insist the artificial in artificial intelligence must be directly linked with consciousness because we've observed intelligence only in life. Unlink the concept of intelligence from life and you land on AI and LLMs.
1970-01-01··on PS5 Linux lead quits: "a bunch of noobs using LLMs" that "they don't understand"
This qualifies as "AI took away my job" but we are dismissing that because the AI influence was indirectly responsible for the job loss.
1970-01-01··on A rough guide for going back to the Moon
You're supporting the USA decisive victory with this take. We are not disagreeing on the winner.
1970-01-01··on A rough guide for going back to the Moon
That remains a ridiculous argument. The thing about a race is you can always think of excuses for not winning. Plans for Mars were being met by all accounts, however Nixon still cancelled them because the Apollo victory was so decisive.
1970-01-01··on A rough guide for going back to the Moon
The goal is entirely different.

Apollo - Cold war. USA must do it before Russia and win the space race. Money is not a restriction. USA did it before Russia and won the space race.

Artemis - Prove a multi-national program can function under financial, economic, political, and even technical restrictions. We can't simply land and observe, it needs to be a team effort under a tight budget.
