0xR1CK··on Margaret Hamilton has died
It's not too soon to delete this, dude. The tone of this statement is cynical, reductive, and dismissive. I bet you're fun at parties.
0xR1CK··on Court agrees with EFF: Utah's VPN law demands a technical impossibility
Exactly. If they cared about the children, they'd be going after the Ep.-Class (no arrests yet), or a good 2/3rds regime in play right now.
0xR1CK··on Plug-in solar is coming. Plug-in batteries should follow
LiFePO4 batteries generally sit upwards of 3000-8000 cycles to 80 percent original charge.... Depends on what your chemistry is.

As the batteries improve, you'll probably want to upgrade every 8-10 years or add/swap out a 1/4 to 1/2 storage by that time, still able to use effectively even if a little lower top end. Depends on your usage and if you're still on grid.

0xR1CK··on FBI used iPhone notification data to retrieve deleted Signal messages
" if the ___ has your unlocked phone they can read your signal messages. "

It's worth noting you can add an additional security check pin/bio/pass to signal that is different from your phone unlock.

The protester had also uninstalled signal from phone (even with access to the phone, they would not have access to signal, if they had reinstalled signal, and some how got the security pin or passphrase, they wouldn't be able to load the prior messages, without either, no messages at all).

0xR1CK··on U.S. stocks are set to deliver their worst quarter in nearly four years
Why did you go to 'eggs'? -- An avian flu issue, not an inflation issue. We're struggling not just because of healthcare or housing but because everything is being optimized/maximized for value extraction. Variable pricing, rampant plagiarism, counterfeiting, fraud in every industry, in every political office. the stocks are being propped up with the promise of value that has circular investing, monopolies are basically encouraged. Gas and food is relatively benign even with shrinkflation and petrol dollar (not for long) preference.
0xR1CK··on U.S. Navy turns down Hormuz escort requests because of high risk
At least they're thinking cautiously about it in some ways and not completely forgetting lessons learned w/ Gen Paul Van Riper in the Millennium Challenge (2002). Worth a read. The sim had the USA lose even with superior weapons.
0xR1CK··on The Kimwolf botnet is stalking your local network
My ISP's router has isolation. Has had for 5+ years. Main SSID has it off so we can do LAN stuff. Guest SSID is used for IoT things and isolation turned off. Handy.

0xR1CK··on Archival Storage
Adding to this... Spinrite can re-write the bits so their charge doesn't diminish over time. There's a relevant Security Now and GRC article for those curious.

0xR1CK··on Z-Library Returns on the Clearnet in Full Hydra-Mode
You'd be wrong.
0xR1CK··on Z-library founders arrested in Argentina
They accepted payment to get around quotas (and probably ran ads). Even if it was a tiny percentage of people who engaged with them this way, or even if they profited at all, they took money in exchange for accessing an illicit resource. That is likely the main reason the teeth have come out to bite.

If anything though this might push that resource to the hands of people who can maintaining the massive library voluntarily and distributed with less ethical/morally-dubious implications.

0xR1CK··on Firefox is the alternative to a Chrome hegemony
What would you define as "Brave's 'bad stuff'" ? It would seem that Brave does a lot to leave power of choice while erroring on safety / privacy for the defaults. What issues does it have?
