0x737368··on Diet, not lack of exercise, drives obesity, a new study finds
Doesn't matter how you look, if you can play those kind of minutes and perform like they do you're in athletic shape. Luka and Jokic don't need to be super slim like Edwards, Morant and Westbrook because they don't rely on supernatural athleticism - they rely on other facets of their game where having a bit more mass is advantageous or at the very least not detrimental.

In any case, Doncic got bullied and embarrassed by Mavs FO's comments about his weight and work ethic(complete lies to try and save face for their terrible and shady trade) so you can look forward to a slimmer Luka next season.

0x737368··on Diet, not lack of exercise, drives obesity, a new study finds
Competitive eaters throw their food up and keep it secret as "I'm just calorie counting" sounds a lot better than "I pretty much have an eating disorder". You can't eat large portions once a week and still train your stomach to stretch enough to eat those gargantuan amounts of food that they need to perform.
0x737368··on Diet, not lack of exercise, drives obesity, a new study finds
I can't take this Luka slander. The guy carried the ungrateful Mavericks team for 6 seasons averaging 35mpg. He's not out of shape. Same thing with Jokic, 10 seasons of 32mpg average. Their mpg also go up in the playoffs.

People need to stop thinking about <10% body fat as the "athletic standard". Some players are super skinny, some players have more mass to them and use it to their advantage.

I do agree with regards to Shaq, the guy coasted in his talent later in his career and let himself go. Had he a better work ethic he could have been in the conversation for one of the greatest players ever.

0x737368··on Killer whales groom each other with pieces of kelp
The reason they're called killer whales is because sailors saw them kill whales, so they were called whale killers and then there was a switch of the two terms.

The best resources I found for hunting auroras are:

- Met Office Space Weather - https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/specialist-forecasts/sp...

- Aurora Alerts Glendale App - https://aurora-alerts.uk/

Both are free and give good results, you can even install the Glendale app on your phone as a PWA(Chrome for best results, Firefox doesn't work as well) and set it to notify you when a potential aurora is about to happen.

The met office space weather is good for an overview of when one might see activity and the Glendale is superb at short-term predictions(as accurate as those can be with auroras).

Ok, best of luck to you on your journey
0x737368··on A gut-derived hormone suppresses sugar appetite/regulates food choice Drosophila
> Statistically, most people who try to eat less fail to do it.

Yep, because the secret is simple, not easy. Whereas people want to find some high-tech wunderwaffen arcane diet that will be hyper complex but easy to follow and will lead to effortless results.

There was this documentary on yt[0] where a fitness model gained lots of weight on purpose to lose it, and even he had mood swings and initially had problems with following his diet regimen when it was time to lose the weight. But point still stands, if you stick with the diet your weight will drop.

0x737368··on A gut-derived hormone suppresses sugar appetite/regulates food choice Drosophila
What are you talking about? If you eat a diet that has the required number of calories and nutrients designed for a healthy-weight person, your body weight will drop accordingly.

The factors that lead someone to overeat is a totally different question the answer to which should be figured out by themselves or maybe their psychologist. In most cases it's not that dire though, once their initial withdrawal from fast food stops people stop having these impulses to reach for a doughnut each time they're inconvenienced. In any case, your problems in life should be treated by dealing with the problems directly and not making themselves feel better by stuffing their face.

Has nothing to do with fat people not understanding thermodynamics and has everything to do with not being able to follow the simple principle and looking for shortcuts instead.
0x737368··on How It Feels to Surf the World’s Biggest Wave

0x737368··on How It Feels to Surf the World’s Biggest Wave
What's notable is that despite its ferocity and danger, according to the wiki section only one recorded death. Must be similar to free soloing in rock climbing where only the most competent dare to do it so the number of deaths is fewer than you'd have thought considering the risk.
0x737368··on How It Feels to Surf the World’s Biggest Wave
It's even more nerve wracking when you watch surfers wipe out on big waves where you need jetskis to get on the wave and then again to get out of the pounding zone of the later waves of the set. Sometimes the jetskis just can't get to them in time and you see the surfer getting put in an extreme wash cycle mode one time after the other until the ocean decides that they're done with them.
0x737368··on How It Feels to Surf the World’s Biggest Wave
Probably not true, I don't have enough knowledge about these things to prove from a physics standpoint that it doesn't happen but I've watched tons of big wave surfers' interviews and podcasts where they were talking about what it's like to get wiped out and none of them mentioned it.

Immediate severe concussion however....

And gronkels describe greckels as schlongusses.

I will quote another poster's comment: """ 1) There really were mass graves in Bucha. This was known even before the departure of the Russians and there is a video with burials. But it's also not a secret that in Bucha the Ukrainians destroyed a lot of Russian equipment that was driving through the streets from artillery. And just as many residential buildings were destroyed - an accompanying zherb. So all these victims are victims of Ukrainian artillery. They are silent about it. But this is a fact.

2) The corpses on the street, obviously defiantly laid out - to create the effect that the city is littered with corpses. It just doesn't make any sense. Well, just think with your head, how could this happen? People stood on the road in different places and the Russians shot them at the same time? That's bullshit.

3) The biggest puncture of propaganda and staging is the statement that there is a satellite image of where the bodies lie on March 11th. And so they had to lie until April 1, that is, 20 days. On the video of the Ukrainians on April 1, there is not even a hint that the bodies have been lying there for 20 days. This is complete nonsense. It turns out that the Russians could not allocate 5 minutes in 20 days to throw these bodies into the truck and take them out if they needed to hide these "terrible crimes"

4) We were shown video from the camera and from one drone. But we don't know when it was filmed. On the camera, two military men are leading people - the Ukrainians could have filmed this on April 1-2, at the same time that they were also staging a general staging with corpses. """

Make your conclusions from this as you will, or keep consuming the propaganda that the media fits you.

0x737368··on A chess robot in Moscow has broken the finger of its human opponent
No, you can spin politics on top of sport, but sport is sport. It's been an excuse for a long time for the West to discriminate Russian athletes for no other reason than them being born in Russia - in a more civilised place this would be seen nothing other than bigotry.

First they used doping as an excuse, with the West of course turning a blind eye on their own athletes' rampant use of PEDs and now they use the war with which the Russian athletes have nothing to do with. I'm sure Putin is shaking this whole time and is just about to tap out out of the war because a young athlete who has dedicated their whole life to excel at a sport and their potential having a VERY limited shelf life can no longer participate.

Think about what you're saying sometimes, buddy.

Ignoring would presume that the war is somewhat relevant to chess.

Also Russia has plenty of legitimacy, both before and after the Ukraine invasion, as much as it seemingly pains you to admit that.

It's tangential but what a confusingly written article, it could have very well been machine translated and I'd have been none the wiser.

The jump from bringing up Zelensky not dealing with Donbass situation as per agreement to Macron and him exclaiming that he doesn't know where Putin's lawyer learned law is comical in its absurdity too.
