I would see myself procrastinate until it falls off my calendar.
0x426577617265··on Facebook does not plan to notify half-billion users affected by data leak
Don’t store data you can’t protect. Because something is ‘hard’ doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done.
0x426577617265··on Ask HN: Cheapest/easiest way to host a static site?
I host at home but put a VPS in front of it. Then I use wireguard to route all the connections to my home server. Which goes right thru all that NAT.
0x426577617265··on National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence's Final Report
Pretty much that’s the case. US is #1 buyer.

I'm not sure how you could come to that conclusion based on my questions. China's place on the world stage is largely dependent on having customers. If there is no where for them to sell their manufactured goods, then they are not in a position of power.

Resilience to what exactly? Is the report suggesting the country holding the 'keys' is hostile?

Yes, this data could be quickly mitigated.
0x426577617265··on Show HN: QEMU front end for M1 and Intel Macs
I have a Dell R720 that I bought fairly cheaply ~$600 came with 192GB of RAM. I shoved some SSDs in it with a GPU. Sits in my garage. If I'm not home I can still remote into my terminal via wireguard. Good deals can be found using lab gopher:

https://labgopher.com/servers/Dell_R720/

Granted it's not 64cores, but still fast.

0x426577617265··on M1 Mac owners are experiencing high SSD writes over short periods of time
Option B sounds more likely in my case. I haven't used it much. Mostly just checking some websites. It's not a daily driver.
0x426577617265··on M1 Mac owners are experiencing high SSD writes over short periods of time
It's how many times the drive is powered on/off.

Mine is about 20 days old. MacBook Air M1 16Gb 1TB Drive:

Not sure what to make of the power cycles stat either. It's mostly plugged in at my desk.
0x426577617265··on K-9 Mail is looking for funding
One thing that confuses me about iOS devices is when a gmail account is added to the mail program. It isn’t clear if it is adding SMTP/IMAP or if it is doing some web app type configuration and if that gives Google more access to track device activity.

0x426577617265··on “WSB veterans know that they're making a suicide charge for the memes”
Yes, I think it has too many followers right now. Perhaps it returns to 'normal' after the hype wears off. It has happened before just not to this scale.
0x426577617265··on “WSB veterans know that they're making a suicide charge for the memes”
I like following WSB, been there for years as well. There has been some incredible gains for me -- AMD, NIO, and TLRY to name a few. They were spotted early by the sub, it's up to the individual to decide when they want to exit their trade.
0x426577617265··on Docker, Django, Traefik, and IntercoolerJS: My go-to stack for building a SaaS
I agree. Python's virtual environments are awesome and easy to use. On a new server just start with

    apt install python3-venv
Really easy to source the environments as needed during automation, etc.

Is that sql docker exposed to the Internet or is there another network other than ‘web’ ?
0x426577617265··on Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Robinhood in the State of New York
Not a lawyer -- I think those conversations would fall under free speech. A coordinated effort to buy shares, what's the problem? Are investors suppose to buy shares with blinds on and not talk to anyone? There are entire TV programs that are dedicated to talking about good/bad stocks to buy/sell.
0x426577617265··on We Are Preparing a Class Action Lawsuit Against Robinhood
It's probably purely a math question -- what's cheaper impending lawsuit (we can settle) or losing our trade?

0x426577617265··on Replacing Dropbox in favor of DigitalOcean spaces
That sounds more taxing on my connection than what I was thinking. Not really up for 100 connections, but if I'm matched up with 1 or 2 other users then that would seem ok.
0x426577617265··on Replacing Dropbox in favor of DigitalOcean spaces
I have a 50TB+ NAS in my garage rack. Which I'm not utilizing completely. I wonder if there is a market for renting out some of my storage for someone else's encrypted backups. Something like a website, where I can list my price/gb & connection speed -- or maybe people could swap. Maybe I want to store 5TB off site and I'm willing to let someone else store their 5TB on my server. The website would act as the middleman for introducing the two customers.

> Citizens will require a personal licence to access the internet, and anonymous use will be illegal.

A lot of users IDs are already tied to their ISP. A simple date/timestamp and a IP address would probably identify the majority of users (in the US).
