0x0nyandesu··on DeepCreamPy- Decensoring Hentai with Deep Neural Networks (2018)
The funny part is everyone I've ever known to be into sex, porn, kink, etc has been not the one doing the sexual harassment in an organization but rather the ones calling out bad behavior.

You know what actually drove my fiance out of tech? Sitting in front of a computer all day till her health, looks, and worth as a women became threatened because instead of being fit, taking care of her body, and practicing self care she would instead have to do what most men do and just sit all day.

She has made commits to the Linux kernel that have been merged and she loves hentai and porn but is no longer in tech because she literally makes more money being a cam girl and it's way more fun.

Tldr: stop trying to white knight. It's neither warranted nor welcome.

0x0nyandesu··on Railway lines once connected the Middle East
Speak for yourself. The last thing I want during covid is to be stuck in a metal box with 100 strangers uncomfortably wearing masks instead of in my own car blasting music with the window down.

Yup not arguing just adding my perspective. There are some gems though like science leadership academy which is a charter magnet school. If you're stuck in Philly it's probably the best school. I personally know someone that used to work there doing IT and teaching kids programming.

This reliance on delivery is baffling to me. I've tried and had them half the time give me incorrect replacements and as a foodie I just can't abide it. Quality of the produce is also hit or miss. I also just stare at the screen and waste time not able to decide but in person I can be in and out fairly quickly. I guess I'm not affluent enough (I just bought a house for 935k).

BTW how are you planning to live in Tokyo? Also my dream.

0x0nyandesu··on The American dream is on life support in the Bay Area
I feel like in both Cali and say Germany taxes are about 40% overall and balance out. For example in Germany long term cap gains is 0%.

The Philadelphia school district is garbage. The other kids will be less affluent than you for the most part. Anyone who cares about their kid's future moves to a suburban school district asap. It's seriously a networking thing because socially life long friends get minted in elementary and middle school.

I grew up in the Philly suburbs and went to Temple..I laugh at the idea of rich people choosing to live in center city. They fixed the payment thing for septa but during covid all the progress made on crime went out the window. They also tear gassed some affluent white techies in the crowd during the protests because the blue collar cops in Philly are some of the dumbest individuals I've ever had the displeasure of interacting with.

I literally moved to Maui during covid and was able to pay the same rent I was throwing away on an apartment in Northern liberties but instead I was 500 ft from the ocean

0x0nyandesu··on I made my first web0 website today. It's so cool it just works
I remember when web 2.0 became a thing it was more of a generic description of web design style and the advent of tech like ajax. Web 3 so far seems like astroturphed nonsense.
0x0nyandesu··on JavaScript for Impatient Programmers
When I onboard new hires I tell them to install it using n and all the instructions give you version numbers because our mobile app, unit tests, and webpack among other things have minimums so the pain is readily apparent but I make it a non issue with clear and concise install docs.
0x0nyandesu··on JavaScript for Impatient Programmers
Googling how to install nodejs you'll end up with a bunch of nonsense from how to manually set it up to how to do it using some OS specific thing that won't work right when you need to upgrade and everything in between when the best practice is installing 'n' which is a node version manager and does everything for you.
0x0nyandesu··on Joan Didion has died
I just got the property 45 days ago and left the watering system alone for now. I think my last bill was 16k gallons but I need to check again. I'm in Hawaii packing my old apartment till Tuesday.
0x0nyandesu··on Joan Didion has died
I find it funny that a farm in the valley has "water use rights" and will end up using millions of gallons of water per month and pay almost nothing for it meanwhile my sfm which uses about 15k gallons a month will cost $300 for the privilege and I'm allowed to keep going and water outside as much as I want however California regulations prevent me from installing a second shower head in my walk in shower wet room under the guise of not wasting water.

All this even though the place where I live is basically 97% recycled water so you're really just paying for the cost of treating the water.

Eh I generally don't understand why my property has to stay a dessert while 10 minutes from my house the farms take the water and sell it for themselves in the fruit.

0x0nyandesu··on Systemd 250 Released
Personally I use Gentoo with OpenRC. It's basically the opposite of bloat.
0x0nyandesu··on Best practices can slow your application down
Completely accurate assessment.
0x0nyandesu··on What Problem Blockchains Solve
At the time all cash found on you would be taken from you at the airport. What is there to add up?

It was their way of sticking it to people for "abandoning" the country.

0x0nyandesu··on What Problem Blockchains Solve
Here's the thing. I don't care about their opinion. The USSR was evil. Collaborators get no sympathy from me. They could be the majority and I'd still want to overthrow that system of government. It's anti freedom.
0x0nyandesu··on What Problem Blockchains Solve
Arguing with commies on the internet is a waste of time. The goal posts are always changing.
0x0nyandesu··on What Problem Blockchains Solve
Keep telling yourself that. My grandparents just died. They hated the USSR for stealing their best years from them. They didn't even get to travel until they were in their 50s.
0x0nyandesu··on What Problem Blockchains Solve
Argue with nerds on the internet and someone will always claim a 100% tax is both legal and just.
0x0nyandesu··on What Problem Blockchains Solve
TIL private transactions and paying with cash should be illegal according to articbull of HN.
0x0nyandesu··on What Problem Blockchains Solve
I always tell people of how my mother was smuggling Soviet rubles stitched into her coat when she flew to NYC to immigrate to America and in the real world people are aghast at the unjust laws of the USSR while on the internet everyone is like "but the law".

Fuck the law. Law != Justice. Use some critical thinking skills for once.

You earned your wealth. It's not the government's.

0x0nyandesu··on What Problem Blockchains Solve
It's amazing that I can transfer wealth across borders with zero bank involvement using this technology and I still have to see people like you claim the sky isn't blue. Like that's nice and all but you sound like sour grapes.
0x0nyandesu··on Kodi: An Open Source Home Theater System
I've been opening 4k HDR files over wifi and having Kodi "just work" on my Android based smart tv.
0x0nyandesu··on Tesla remotely unlocks Model 3 car, uses smart summon to help repo agent
They do this with any key fob for any make and model these days.
0x0nyandesu··on There's never been a better time to build websites
I'm just explaining to you how it plays out when a business is deciding whether or not to use TS at all. Mistakes and errors are checked for by linters and unit tests automatically in the background so that's not a benefit anyone cares about. The liability of having to find coders that want to work on your TS project decreases potential candidates and makes hiring more difficult. Large organizations can deal with it cause when you have 500 engineers on staff you can find 50 that will use TS for you. For smaller orgs it's a pain.
0x0nyandesu··on There's never been a better time to build websites
It will take a few months just to bring yourself up to speed on mouse/keyboard event bindings and how they interact in one specific browser and one operating system let alone all browsers and operating systems and mobile and that's without even thinking about rendering, templating, network operation wrappers, local storage, camera and sound APIs. The list goes on.

I've been doing this since literally IE 5.5 and I'm still learning new stuff all the time. The fact that you think you can learn all this in a few months is hilarious.

0x0nyandesu··on My parents collect cans for a living
Actually.... Yea. In this case that's exactly what's happening. It's like if you got a job at McDonald's working minimum wage when you were 16 but then you never moved on.
0x0nyandesu··on There's never been a better time to build websites
Not really. You can't replicate experience. Everything you just wrote about with data types, invariants, and decorators is just flavor which you only have control over in your own personal code however as soon as you interact with web browser APIs, nodejs, and 3rd party libraries all that goes out the window and you end up conforming to other people's patterns.

In my honest opinion Typescript is a fad. You're still just coding JavaScript with an alternative syntax. Since you're borrowing dependencies from JS you need to know both and context switching between the two slows you down. From a CS perspective I get why TS syntax is better but from a functional perspective it's harder to find engineers that actually want to work with it because every TS project I've ever seen is really a mix of TS and JS.
