0goel0··on Ticketmaster’s attempt to game arbitration services fails
How do you opt out from web services? Nearly all of them have a all-or-nothing TOS.
0goel0··on Reflections on Palantir
This is an extremely myopic take. I don't think I have seen many -- let alone "most" as you prescribe -- comments in any forums that resort to "war bad". Even on HN what I've seen is people with a strong sense of justice and ethics actively speaking out against atrocities being committed using US taxpayer dollars.

As for your line about people not knowing the history -- partially fair enough. Though that's also a propaganda line spread by Israel to keep people out of the metaphoric town hall. If you really believe that to join a movement you must first learn the entire history of all concerned parties first, shouldn't the same apply to any comments about Israel, or the US? I don't see pro-genocide commenters being told to shut up because they don't know the completely history of the Ottoman Empire.

0goel0··on Standard Notes
Exactly this. I use SN but I'm always looking for an alternative.

The mobile apps are very buggy and while the team tries to resolve issues, basic things should not be breaking occasionally. I want a notes app to just work.

After I read your comment, I thought they had 10x annual expenses or something but really they have 18 months of runway. That's not that long IMO.

0goel0··on Google Pixel 6 still freezes when calling Emergency Services
"...in Australia"

How is this not a S1 P0 that requires an emergency hot patch from Google? AU should ban pixel phone sales until this is fixed.

This. We can't just plant more trees to make up for the trees that have been cut down. It's not a 1:1
0goel0··on Sports Owners Use Their Teams to Avoid Millions in Taxes
I think OP just didn't read the article
0goel0··on Sports Owners Use Their Teams to Avoid Millions in Taxes
If we as a society never questioned the validity of laws, we'd still be ruled by kings.
0goel0··on Uber used 50 Dutch shell companies to dodge taxes on $6B in revenue
> Besides, corporations generally have outside sources of funding other than income, while people generally don't

What do you think credit cards and mortgages are?

0goel0··on Uber used 50 Dutch shell companies to dodge taxes on $6B in revenue
Individuals can't pretend to be based in Ireland to not pay US taxes. US taxes global individual income, but not global corporate profits.
0goel0··on Ask HN: How is a company like Comcast able to get away with spam?
This annoys the hell out of me. I'm in the same spot getting spam emails even though I've unsubscribed from everything. What's worse is that I also get their marketing emails even though I've been unsubscribed.

Most recently, "Just for you: Save Big with Xfinity Mobile " and "Welcome to your new Xfinity Retail Store.".

Like fuck you comcast.

Your comment history makes me worry for you. If you don't already, do therapy. Times are hard, take care of yourself.
0goel0··on Facebook slow to address political manipulation outside wealthy, western nations
This is a terrible take, and it seems like you have a grudge audient Guardian. Following your own logic, lay off the guardian hate. Their reporting is solid, and much needed these days.
0goel0··on Google’s lawyer accidentally made a sensitive document public
OT: I sub to Matt Stoller but weirdly didn't receive this newsletter. Checked spam, nothing.

Was there maybe a substack outage?

0goel0··on Parler users furious that site sent violent posts to FBI ahead of Capitol riot
> One user wrote: "To confirm, you are calling for an investigation into big tech collusion while you are colluding with the FBI against your platform members?" Another user wrote: "This is NOT an example of a free speech platform. Parler is a fraud."

There it is. What these users want is not free speech, but rather no consequences.

0goel0··on Amazon Keeps Getting Sued for Paying Drivers Less Than Minimum Wage
Exactly. I have never had issues with small businesses (not large chains). I bought a DAC from an audio store that was the wrong one and the other replaced it for free for me and gave me a free mini-lesson on it.
0goel0··on Amazon Keeps Getting Sued for Paying Drivers Less Than Minimum Wage
Counterfeits is what pushed me over the edge. I just could not trust that the product I'll get is what I paid for.

Ended up cancelling my account and never looked back. Been shopping locally as much as possible since last summer

0goel0··on SpaceX delivers 3rd batch of Starlink satellites in two weeks

Oh no they did do a lot. They lobbied for hundreds of billions of dollars from congress to upgrade infrastructure, then gave themselves bonuses and bought back company stock.

0goel0··on How Big Tech Is Importing India’s Caste Legacy to Silicon Valley
Gold miners is the literal history of California.

The fact of the matter is that OP's comment is good old-fashioned racism wrapped in fancy words to harness HN votes.

Funny how no one says the same about people from France or Australia..

0goel0··on Fossil fuel cars make 'hundreds of times' more waste than electric cars
This is a hot garbage of a take.

No one is saying "ELECTRICITY BAD", but futile uses of electricity (most of which is derived from extremely polluting fossil fuels[1]) is bad.

Aren't most large organizations bound by contracts that are set at the start of the deal? I don't think most large institutions (districts for eg) are affected by these changes in the short term.

I don't think gig economy is working for the hard-working workers. We were doing Instacart delivery of groceries until we found out that they punished workers for demanding -- get this -- a livable wage and common decency [0][1]. Doordash has been caught stealing tips too [2]. All of them (Uber, Lyft etc) spent $200m to ensure that their workers would not get a living wage and health benefits [3].

With every passing month, I'm realizing that the gig economy works only when the worker class is exploited, and the exploitation is opaque from the customer.

[0] Instacart can go f*ck itself - we'll go pick up our own groceries.
