If you're legitimately a senior engineer in the United States with many years of relevant experience, $250k is the floor for what you should accept.
What I'm not is a resident of the Bay Area, Seattle, or NYC.
I know many senior engineer peers who earn nowhere near 250k. Not sure where your statement is coming from.
Plus, senior is such a weird term. I actually wrote a blog post about the many dimensions of "senior" here: https://www.mooreds.com/wordpress/archives/2812
