I think you've had your wish for well over a decade. Federal minimum wage has been beyond meaningless for multiple decades and as it stands today only coastal states have minimum wages over $12/hr.
I agree with your main point, but Arizona is $13.85, Colorado is $13.65 and Illinois is $13.00.
