The difference is that France wants to forbid a symbol of oppression over women, while the middle east wants to forbid expressions of freedom. Take that as you will.

Shit, I think I mixed up the comment I wanted to reply to. Was thinking of the Burqa mentioned initially.

Still don't think equating the level of freedom in Qatar to the West is a fair comment.

Same thing applies to the burqa. If women wear it voluntarily, then its their choice and their freedom of expression to do so, there is no oppression.
