A little ironic as until relatively recently American Midwestern political culture was the most strongly civic and, arguably, communitarian, in the United States. But coastal liberal culture has come to dominate the political left, southern conservative culture the political right, and the factionalization of the Midwest along those political contours has been well underway for at least a couple of decades, now. :(

Not surprised that people who left California for possibly political reasons and settled in the Midwest might say that. Sure, whatever.
