As a CEO of a major, publicly-traded company, Musk is a relatively unprecedented combination of arrogant, overrated, reckless, and dishonest.
I am enraged by Tesla's disregard for other drivers, shoddy build quality, blatant lies (ex: FSD labeling and failure to deliver), and toxic online fanbase. I think it's very reasonable for other people to be too.
Do you own a Tesla? Did you personally get scammed by them?
If not, it's deeply unhealthy for you to be enraged by something that doesn't even directly involve you.
It makes people in a democracy angry when someone who is unelected (and was born with a silver spoon in their mouth) becomes more powerful than the democracy. I wish I didn't have to care about Musk, but the various regulators who are supposed to stop him from pump-and-dump scams on Twitter and from releasing unsafe, shoddily-built cars are very slow to do anything to him.
> it's deeply unhealthy
Please spare the armchair analysis. It weakens your argument and is off-topic for HN. If you can't make your point without calling me mentally ill, you don't have a good point.
No, seriously. Healthy people are not "enraged" by things like these. I'm not trying to attack you, this isn't a criticism.
If you're enraged by some Tesla bullshit, what about all of the other significantly worse things in this world? It can't be nice to live like that, being constantly enraged and all.
There are worse things in the world, but salience isn't directly proportional to harm for anyone, including me. Otherwise, we'd all likely be paralyzed with rage over human rights in Syria or China.
Also, people can be angry at more than one thing, and it's not a permanent or constant state.
But everyone has their pet issues that really bother them, and there are worse issues than Musk (who symbolizes US oligarchy) to care about.
It's normal to be annoyed by something like this, but not to be put into a rage.
"Enraged" implies extreme uncontrollable anger, being sent into a rage, you think of something like The Big Lebowski car smashing scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0kfe5tkdD4
There are definitely situations where it's normal for someone to become enraged, but they're few and far between.
Had you actually bought a Tesla and felt seriously fucked over by your dealer, such uncontrollable anger might actually be a normal reaction. But when you're just a third party considering that others might get screwed like that, it would certainly be an overreaction.
E: I should apologize, I think my comments have been too easy to misinterpret. I originally intended to make a silly joke to poke fun at your misuse of one of the strongest words we have to express anger in the English language, but it just came across as mean instead of funny.
I'm sorry.
Teslas drive on public streets, unfortunately. So everyone who doesn't own a Tesla is still part of Elon's irresponsible experiements. Thus, have a right to an opinion or even outrage.
I don't own a Tesla but I've been brake checked by their phantom braking so I care.
It's not normal for a third party to get so upset over other peoples cars. Angry? Sure. Vexed? Why not. Annoyed? Absolutely. Enraged? Probably not. Incandescent? Nah.
Elon Musk is setting a terrifying precedent as the (usually) richest man in the world who is also a childish troll, self-dealer, and proud flouter of safety regulations.
