no one wants added cost or loss of control in their company and I am sure many in leadership positions think they are doing far more than is perceived by the line workers.
in the US unions earned their bad reputation but are a very strong political force at the state level because of public employee unions. we have sufficient laws to protect workers in any industry these days but it was not the case fifty or a hundred years ago. today's unions are more about the political power they can wield than the workers they protect.
