zx8080··on Vibecoding isn't as fun as writing code by hand
It's because of the fear.
zx8080··on ChatGPT is adding real cartoonists' signatures to fake New Yorker cartoons
That Chinese censorship! Oh wait..
zx8080··on ChatGPT is adding real cartoonists' signatures to fake New Yorker cartoons
Isn't both is what's happening?
zx8080··on gpuvis: GPU Trace Visualizer
Thanks! Edited my comment above.
zx8080··on gpuvis: GPU Trace Visualizer
Edit: dismiss my comment.

There are several links to 404 pages in credits section which makes me think this project is a total slop. Hope I'm wrong.

zx8080··on Agents don't need memory, they need documentation
The author just promotes his system competing with the "agents memory".
zx8080··on Apple's smart home camera reportedly won't record video
> expected to use a low-frame-rate camera alongside facial recognition and infrared sensors to identify people and pets around the home.

Thanks for letting us know that it's mainly the surveillance device. The advanced one.

zx8080··on Apple's smart home camera reportedly won't record video
Sure. It's the transcript that is stored, isn't it?
zx8080··on Fuck Android Developer Verification Program
Users will go use Apple. The next round of enshittification is on. As no competition with "open" anymore.

Go and vibe-code your mobile OS. Lol.

zx8080··on Fuck Android Developer Verification Program
That's how OKRs work!

> Google does not understand the concept of a finished app

They do! They just hate it.

zx8080··on What a Massive New 728-Foot-Wide Crater Means for Future Moon Bases
It means someone will ask 10x price for building the US lunar base.
zx8080··on There is more to code review than (automatable) detection
> I consider 99% of my "defense of the architecture" strategy to be teaching my team why the architecture is important, how to think about it, and invite they commentary on it as we own and evolve it together.

Nice way to avoid the responsibility for any team fuckup: it's not me, I only teach them, they decide themselves.

zx8080··on When did Google get so weird?
> My question is: what's the point of the AI in the search engine if it itself isn't going to use the search engine first before answering?

AI is sold well because the user either corrects it or happily accepts any answer (usually, depending if one is an expert in the question's field).

Search is not the google's area, and it is not the search they sell! They sell ads.

zx8080··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
> As if we don’t have tariffs. My AliExpress packages are taxed over 100%

Is it contradicting - does it mean the tariff is "over 100%"?

zx8080··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
It's not the incompetency. It's carefully designed pre-IPO story.
zx8080··on We're gonna need a lot more mathematicians
> This is a guest post by Amit Sahai

Not Terrence Tao post. Beware.

zx8080··on Jury finds Facebook liable for deceiving users in Cambridge Analytica case
10-years old ago thing? Yeah, so fast. And what exactly will the settlement money go to?
zx8080··on What even is an OS now?
The more AI is wideapread and is used by power users to build apps, the more devices will be locked from running any custom ("non-certified / non-licensed") software. For your safety and security, of course.
zx8080··on Ask HN: Who's still keeping a DOS machine up because the business depends on it?
It's _very_ hard to believe some company to simply "clone the mainframe" into chip. Mind sharing any link to this effort?
zx8080··on Early rogue AI agent activity and attempts to hack found on urlquery.net
I'm sick and tired of this cheap PR "oh we/they hacked this and that systems". Put someone to jail already. People get prosecuted for outlaw activities. Why are big capital firms above the law?

Or is it just a cheap PR (in a "hey, Aus govt friends, take some Share Options and let's do some PR together" style)?

It smells like shit.

zx8080··on VSCode's SSH Agent Is Bananas (2025)
> ”hallucination” is what we call it when LLMs get code wrong; “engineering” is what we call it when people do.

They've lost me right there at the top of the article. This sounds like a pure hatred and ignorance to what the actual software engineering is.

zx8080··on ChatGPT now knows what you do on other websites via ad collector
Regulations won't be set (serious ones, at least) unless there's some risk to those holding power. Which is the opposite in this case: this tracking helps them to take even more control over society and individuals.
zx8080··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP

  > Google simply regrets android being open source.
No, they are benefitting from it! They gained some trust and removed competition from the horizon. Now they are locking the platform down to do what their business is about: displaying ads.
zx8080··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
> None of their decisions make any sense ..

What? Google is advertisement business. Not a software house. They sell ads. It all makes sense to build a walled garden. They are effectively a monopoly for half of the personal devices _in the world_. And they _will_ return their investments into the opensource. By locking Android and Chrome and showing ads to everyone.

Like the old days shitty TV, full of ads.

zx8080··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
> My point is: companies stop making your product suck, and people won't have a reason to try and fix it for you.

What an idealistic nonsense. Companies do anything not for people, but for money. We are not living in a socialist utopia (fortunately!).

zx8080··on Dropping eBPF CPU Cost by About 90% with Memoization (Not AI Gen)
No. The oldschool is "daemon".
zx8080··on Registration without a phone number on Signal will use zero-knowledge proofs

zx8080··on Registration without a phone number on Signal will use zero-knowledge proofs
