zwerdlds··on Jabra: we know our Bluetooth headsets don’t work with laptops
I used to feel this way too. When BT came out I got so excited - saved up my pocket-hole-burning money from a retail job to buy the crappiest piece of crap I could find. Pairing failed. Audio quality sucked. Range was... barely wireless. Batteries drained in moments.

That was then. Recently my wife wanted a durable portable speaker, and got a JBL somethingorother. It works surprisingly well. So I got some JBL earbuds. They work pretty well. I got curious and went back over some old headphones. Turns out some of the problems seem to be in the stack and some in the devices - I ended up not using those old headphones, but some of the old problems did get fixed.

In summary: Things used to suck but my recent BT purchases have set me hopeful. I use the auxiliary port on my car still also - and I think I'll keep it that way for sharing. Pairing devices still makes me feel invaded.

zwerdlds··on How Does React Tell a Class from a Function?
All of the hiring managers I've talked to recently have the JQuery/JS dichotomy applied to React now. That is, they don't seem to really care that there's a difference. You can say you're good with JS, Vue, DOM etc, but if you don't check that React box, it's not good enough.
zwerdlds··on Justice Department Sues to Stop California Net Neutrality Law
Sorry if I get some basic understanding of the law wrong but...

Isn't this the same thing as regulating car emissions? Doesn't 822 only apply to providers in the state itself? Wouldn't it be that the telecoms are welcome to engage in another method of end-customer billing in other states?

What am I missing?

zwerdlds··on iOS 12 Safari Array reverse bug
Having had direct experience with this, this is the reason people don't file bugs with Apple. It is an exercise in futility.
zwerdlds··on Tesla Faces U.S. Criminal Probe Over Musk Statements
Hedge funds, which can turn huge sums into market swings often use this technique to drop the price, creating additional drops from panic sell offs, allowing them to make a margin on it from the bottom.
zwerdlds··on Firefox Reality Now Available
Does anyone know if there's integration with WebGL?
zwerdlds··on Tesla Faces U.S. Criminal Probe Over Musk Statements
Key point: I was trying to explain this to someone who had no idea of what a short is. I didn't want to muddy the issue with complex descriptions of equity, dividends etc.

But if you think of equity as having a value other than derived from the market, then 'expensive' might still have applicability here.

It's been a long time since I've used this though.

zwerdlds··on Tesla Faces U.S. Criminal Probe Over Musk Statements
Shorts drive the price down, making it more expensive for the company to borrow from the market by selling stock. They have to sell more shares to receive a similar amount.
zwerdlds··on Ajit Pai calls California’s net neutrality rules “illegal”
> "only the federal government can set regulatory policy in this area"

Regulatory policy that apparently he wants to set - but specifically gave that ability to the FTC.

Seems like he wants to have his cake and eat it too? Am I misunderstanding this?

zwerdlds··on An effort to bring computer science to all US high schools
The CODE.org curriculum refers to it as "Coding".
zwerdlds··on New Logo and Identity for Library of Congress
Best of luck to the LIBRARY LIBRARY OF CONGRESS on their new logo.

zwerdlds··on The Case for Writing Papers in Economics Using FaKe LaTeX [pdf]
Of course, the point is moot if the journal you're submitting to only takes LaTeX.
zwerdlds··on The Worst Hyperinflations in History: Hungary in 1946 (2014)
German Hyperinflation ended in 1923. The earliest dates put the Holocaust starting at 1933.
zwerdlds··on Python’s Weak Performance Matters
Not saying you're wrong - you definitely don't get great performance easily in Haskell, but it seems to have better benchmarks than python, by a lot.
zwerdlds··on LastPass’ Authenticator app is not secure
Well this is disappointing. In the past, LastPass seemed to have been receptive to patching these kinds of things.

But no follow-up via email? Maybe it's time to start looking at other options.

zwerdlds··on LiteDB – A .NET NoSQL Document Store in a Single Data File
I don't know for sure, but I believe it would be that SQLite is relational, this is NoSQL (document key/value store)

zwerdlds··on The Last JSON Spec
Additionally, working against a json schema with additional properties false would cause a validation failure.
zwerdlds··on Silicon Valley Struggles to Add Conservatives to Its Ranks
Sorry if I hit a nerve. I can see why it would be difficult.

I'm on the outside, so my the reading I did probably doesn't represent the full situation. I asked that question because I was genuinely curious - the resources I found seemed to indicate that constructive termination could still constitute wrongful termination in CA.

By the way, if you have a specific resource you want me to read, I'd love to have the link.

zwerdlds··on Silicon Valley Struggles to Add Conservatives to Its Ranks
Why didn't you file suit?
zwerdlds··on Silicon Valley Struggles to Add Conservatives to Its Ranks
I think you're just moving the goalposts here.
zwerdlds··on Silicon Valley Struggles to Add Conservatives to Its Ranks
Eich resigned, he wasn't terminated.
zwerdlds··on Silicon Valley Struggles to Add Conservatives to Its Ranks
It's just the free market adjusting!
zwerdlds··on Silicon Valley Struggles to Add Conservatives to Its Ranks
If you were fired for your political views in CA, that would be wrongful termination.
zwerdlds··on Silicon Valley Struggles to Add Conservatives to Its Ranks
Political party is, in fact, a protected class in CA.
zwerdlds··on Silicon Valley Struggles to Add Conservatives to Its Ranks
Plenty of conservatives in the central valley. Maybe it's a Bay Area phenomenon.
zwerdlds··on Introducing the new Snapchat
Just a hunch, but I'm guessing the call to capture a screenshot is restricted by Apple, forcing them to do it the 'correct' way.
zwerdlds··on Ajit Pai is right
Yeah, the whole comparison to T-Mobile is baseless.
