zupzupper··on Trump is going after California’s clean car mandate
To be clear, the exemption has been in place since the 1970's and allows California to pass their own requirements, that meet or exceed federal requirements.

We would not be allowed standards that are below federal standards, we're just allowed to be tougher on ourselves than the fed requires.

The exemption just allows California to enforce tougher standards on themselves. If other states want to follow suit, they're not compelled to by California, automakers choose to build a single model that works in all 50 states rather than spend the money to make multiple emissions models, but they are not forced to either.

Seems like they're due for a revival.
zupzupper··on Plan to split California into three states earns spot on November ballot
Oh no you don't!

We split at Bakersfield as is custom, and the South gets to keep it.

;)

zupzupper··on BMW says electric car mass production not viable until 2020
2020 is only 2 years from now.
zupzupper··on The Dirty Secret of ‘Secret Family Recipes’
> I actually wonder how many of the Blue Apron/HelloFresh recipes will wind up being “secret family recipes” in a few years.

We have already incorporated a few we liked into a recipe box with hand written cards....

Also our oatmeal cookie recipe comes from the back of the McCann's quick oatmeal box....don't care...it's delicious.

zupzupper··on Mobile Device Management invades privacy
That's fair, also I haven't tried using one outside of the google ecosystem. My personal accounts are tied up inside google and most of my employers have used the gsuite as well.

Maybe someone else can comment if it works the same with office365 or similar?

Newer Android OSes have the concept of a "Work profile" that you can enable for this. The company's MDM goes onto the work profile, along with the approved work apps. These may be sandboxed copies of existing apps, like in the case of the google suite, where they're tied to company data and accounts.

The work profile apps and data are the only things the MDM can "see" at that point on the device.

You can also switch the profile on and off at will, which is nice for vacations.

zupzupper··on Home and hotel – Switching from macOS to Ubuntu on a Dell XPS 13 laptop
It's not great. Better than the default windows one, I think a lot of people on OSX pick up iTerm2 instead.
zupzupper··on LastPass’ Authenticator app is not secure
LastPass produces two apps, the Password Manager and this Authenticator App, which looks like a 2FA competitor to Google Authenticator.

The bug the article is detailing is in the Authenticator application, not the Password Manager application, which wasn't very clear to me on my first read.

zupzupper··on Neighbor's house alarm triggers when I put my car in reverse
I too have heard this story, yet I had this exact problem at a k-8 school district, the staff would unplug the power to my t1 each night.

For a canoe you're sitting relatively high in the water, check out the Coracle: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coracle

For bonus points, its also known to have been in common use in the British Isles.

They could have just been using this as a basic rudder?
