No data leaves my LAN unless I want it to.
The most painful part of the whole process was the YAML files for Frigate.
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS. I have consistently resisted ever following, or even looking at the profiles of obvious IG thots and yet recently, because my IG account only follows a handful of others and runs out of content quickly, IG has been FILLING my feed with IG models. Not just one, not just a few, like a healthy amount of scrolling is required to get beyond them to other types of sponsored content.
I cannot for the life of me figure it out. I'm sure something I did or revealed has tagged me as "likely to find this content captivating" but I don't and I wish I could flag it as such. My best guess is that because I follow some "BRO" accounts (qualified captain, i70 things, etc) and happen to fall in gender/age pairing where that kind of content is a reliable draw, they'll keep trying.
I mostly maintain my account to follow hobbies and local businesses, but I'm about to shitcan it for the second or third time.
That's what I'm aiming for. Full-on retirement seems boring.
If Apple failed to plan for a huge economic event that let competitors gain some ground, they can survive that misstep because they have such a huge moat. Conversely, if Apple did over-hire, they can also survive that climate due to their size and stay the course while others falter.
If you're captaining an ocean liner (Apple) you don't worry too much about 5-10' seas and 10 knots of wind. If you're captaining a 50' yacht (eg. all the mid-sized SaaS businesses announcing layoffs) you definitely pay attention to that sea state.
You're right - the average person doesn't need to have that kind of stance. Even if they were a real target, much higher value targets slip through the cracks all the time. We're not nearly as good at data processing as we think (yet).
And on the other end, you have… this. Buying burner phones and wearing facepaint to avoid facial recognition at a theme park. Imposing that on your _family_.
As an academic exercise I guess it's interesting, but living this way must be truly exhausting. Me? I'll continue to be somewhere in the middle of these two polar opposites. I participate in society, but I don't willingly or knowingly give away more information than is required. I obscure or block what I can, but still sign up for and use accounts that can be tied back to me. I consider success as making it difficult to tie my data together - either such that I don't fit the majority pipelines and need extra attention, or I break hamfisted techniques altogether.
I'm sure most people don't care about it as much as I do, but I have this deep-seated need to make sure I'm as square with as many people as I can be and I expect the same from everyone else. It's not just about being owed, it's about owing, too. I wish I knew where it came from. I wish I was better about just letting it go.
I'll just hold my breath for that moment.
<dies>
Edit: On 2012 Mac Mini. I'd like to get a USB Coral and switch to Frigate at some point.
And what about the blockage of the light? That will inhibit growth of algae and plants underwater.
I can see how this might be super useful for man-made bodies of water (for drinking, runoff, etc) but it seems it might be a bit impactful on natural bodies of water.
So... yeah, calling bullshit on ya, Brian.
When they biffed the Google Play Music -> YT Music transition, I tried to cancel but the ads - oh, god, the ads. They were TERRIBLE and I've only heard they've gotten worse.
Ugh. I really like compensating content creators more than they get from ad rolls, but this has me real torn. There are, of course, ways to pay less via other countries portals, but I expect those loopholes to be closed shortly. I primarily consume on iOS mobile devices, so ad-blocking is tough (though Vanced is A+ if you're an Android user).
