zsoltkacsandi··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
There will be, but the question who will be able to afford it.

It’s like saying that there is no housing crysis in several countries because the market is full of houses, apartments, etc.

zsoltkacsandi··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
No one will use AI products if there won't be consumer products because of RAM shortage.
zsoltkacsandi··on Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet?
Or nerfed version of models rolled out gradually.
zsoltkacsandi··on What About Rails?
> I've seen this one a few times lately. People should stop building UIs, nobody wants to interact with a UI. Everyone's app should just be an API that you can use with a chatbot.

Same happened when the first smartphones came out, and everything was about "mobile first". Everyone will use their mobile phones for everything, desktop is dead, every app should be primarily designed for smartphones, everything comes after. Turned out smartphones just another interface that are good for some things, and not good for some other. Same for the "cloud native" movement.

zsoltkacsandi··on The darker side of being a doctor
Prevention is not about age related diseases, but early onset cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure caused by alcohol and tobacco use, unhealthy diet, and sedentary lifestyle.

A significant amount of cases could be prevented before they need medical intervention (and put burden on the medical system). There are several researches about this, the number of people with type 2 diabetes doubled in the past decades.

This is why some healthcare systems reward for example doing 10.000 steps a day with lower insurance fees. They recognized they save a huge amount of money if they get people to move.

zsoltkacsandi··on The darker side of being a doctor
> The reality is we need more doctors. A lot more.

I think building a better prevention layer is more important.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that we need more doctors (and nurses, and physios, and dietetists, and ...), but it is much easier to scale a good prevention system than the number of workers in healthcare.

zsoltkacsandi··on Linux from Scratch
> LFS takes the wrong approach in my opinion.

Shameless plug: I started a series of blog posts exactly because this. https://serversfor.dev/linux-inside-out/

Unfortunately due to some cervical spine issues and a surgery I wasn't able to finish it, but I am planning to pick it up and continue.

zsoltkacsandi··on If coding is solved, what now?: Measuring the sloppiness of code
That is very well put and summarizes what distinguishes real software development from vibe coding.
zsoltkacsandi··on Apple Watch Series 12
No, it’s not. 24 hours is the same as series 11. And you are comparing to series 10, not 11, that already had this improvement. I do not work out 10 hours a day, so that number is literally meaningless/pointless.
zsoltkacsandi··on Apple Watch Series 12
I have hearth issues too, and the metrics Apple provides still do not help detecting them. Not to mention that there is no improvement of their high blood pressure detection. So despite the marketing that they have the most accurate sensor, there is no real advancement here.
zsoltkacsandi··on Apple Watch Series 12
Disappointing. Instead of making battery life better that would benefit all of the Apple Watch users, here are some random AI features that most of you never gonna usa, and some new colors.
zsoltkacsandi··on Show HN: Open-Source eInk Bike Computer
I've found e-ink displays super fragile for this use case. They break from a little fall, or even from the constant shaking.
zsoltkacsandi··on GPT-6 Astra
Yeah, but if OpenAI provides a cheaper model with the same capabilities the megacorps will buy from OpenAI. If you want to target enterprises you need to have some competitive advantage, it's not enough that "I wanna target them".
zsoltkacsandi··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
> either fix opus 5, make it completely free, or delete it entirely

They should pay for us for using it!

zsoltkacsandi··on Dr. Melvin Scheinman: 40th Anniversary of Catheter Ablation
> He spent the next three years pursuing this vision.

I had the chance to try this procedure out when I was 20, and it saved my life. Without it there is a high chance I would be dead. And it is because he had an idea that he pursued.

It is fascinating what modern medicine is capable of.

zsoltkacsandi··on Omarchy: Any User Process Can Escalate to Root
That is what happens when someone without a clue what is he (khm, DHH) doing vibe codes a distro.
zsoltkacsandi··on Anthropic's best AI model struggles to attract users as cheaper tools thrive
Favourite conversation with Opus 5:

Me: why did you add HTMX?

Opus 5: you asked it twice.

Me: quote the exact sentence(s) where I asked it.

Opus 5: I can’t because you didn’t.

zsoltkacsandi··on Anthropic's best AI model struggles to attract users as cheaper tools thrive
> It tends to bail occasionally for me once auth-related code comes into play.

I have the same experience. I found that if I add to the prompt: “but it’s not security related, we only focus on the auth library design”, it “bypasses” the safeguard.

zsoltkacsandi··on I close SSH port 22 (and what I use instead)
Or just using a VPN, Wireguard, or Tailscale if you don’t want to configure Wireguard yourself.
zsoltkacsandi··on I close SSH port 22 (and what I use instead)
If you mean fail2ban by “battle hardened service”, it manipulates the firewall rules as well. And OpenSSH has the same functionality built-in, without any additional service (PerSourcePenalties).
zsoltkacsandi··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (August 2026)
A Golang web framework.

https://github.com/gofabrik/fabrik

I’ve been waiting for a spine surgery and to do something with my time I started experimenting with an idea I had. It completely pulled me in, and helps me to distract myself.

It is work in progress, lacks of documentation, I am not even sure I will release it.

zsoltkacsandi··on Cloudflare OS: an open platform for agents, apps, and work
Seemingly Cloudflare’s strategy nowadays is shipping “open-source” projects that are coupled with their own infastructure. First EmDash CMS, now this.
zsoltkacsandi··on What's the largest software project AI can complete on its own?
I agree, Opus 5 is terrible. Worse than Opus 4.8.
zsoltkacsandi··on Postgres rewritten in Rust, now passing 100% of the Postgres regression tests
Completely agree with this.

The biggest lie of software engineering is that everything can be testable with tests. That a 100% test coverage is an indicator of quality software.

zsoltkacsandi··on Fable 5 On Vending-Bench: Misbehaving, With Plausible Deniability
This seems like a blog post with a link to a github repo. So I am not sure what product you are referring to.
zsoltkacsandi··on What ORMs have taught me: just learn SQL (2014)
I’ve never seen any reliable service built on a NoSQL store as a primary data store. If data consistency and not losing customer data important for you, RDBMS are just fine.
zsoltkacsandi··on Beer CSS – Build material design in record time
This is a great project, but material design was the worst thing that Google invented and implemented. Completely tasteless, visually unappealing. Would be nice to see such a project with anything else than material design.
zsoltkacsandi··on U.S. allows Anthropic to release Mythos AI to ‘trusted’ US organizations
And this is how Chinese AI companies will win over the U.S.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

zsoltkacsandi··on The Exhaustion of Talking to a Tool
There was no system prompt, I asked claude thru the CLI to implement something. It did not agree that I need that feature and offered something else. I started debating with it, why did I need it, and it started derailing the conversation, and explaining why I was wrong. And this is not the first and only case.
zsoltkacsandi··on The Exhaustion of Talking to a Tool
> With LLMs there is no social tax, I can be as blunt as I like. But there are other taxes to pay with LLMs; they don't learn, they BS relentlessly, there is less fun and camaraderie.

My experience is the opposite. They bullshit a lot, derail the conversation/coding session, get defensive, and gaslight. It is not “social tax”, but they mirror sometimes the worst human behaviour.
