For simple things you probably want to use in future more of checkinstall (to keep it easier for yourself the creation, installation and removal part):
What does Debian miss that you need for your servers (I am really interested).
Also for quick and dirty you could use checkinstall.
There is also a good tutorial on DigitalOcean about fpm:
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-use-...
And just maybe me nitpicking too much but the title should be then "How to quickly create deb package for personal needs". Notice that this means you don't get Debian Security support for your own package so that can be a huge breaker for many people running servers :)
Also you can use equivs for creating quick (dummy?) packages :D
While Mageia is there, they seem to have hard time to innovate and keep the pace, but I am still glad they are here.
Better tutorials:

https://wiki.debian.org/PackagingWithGit (because we are all going to git the world).
It is hard to see the entire impact of Free software and even harder to predict how the world would like if people actually stood up to it but I can say that I am sure we would have:
- more secure Internet - more decentralized/distributed Internet - no ISP blocks - much harder if not even impossible NSA spying - no disgusting DRM - no patents and patent trolls -> more inovation - no force updates, no abandoned users - more competition in hardware and software field - things being developed for people and not sheer profit - ... - add your points
Which doesn't say anything against having green energy but about current sad state of society and humanity in general...
So we developed into society where 17 screws is such a major problem to deal with it... Also people who wouldn't not even try to repair their phone will not try even if there is no screw.
In my opinion such phone should appeal to what you call geeky crowd and from there it should initiate some social change (probably via media such as Internet) where changing 17 screws will not be difficult task but highly rewarding in terms of being human and hardware/cost wise. After that it should spread to people and with it the hardware becomes industrial standard (parts at least) so the price of changing goes down both in cost and finding them.
Irresponsible person and/or unhappy worker will be less productive no matter where he works but I do think that remote work is the future if we want to have a sustainable life and don't have a new age slavery that is dominating in today's capitalism.
Just one suggestion, I think you should avoid the installation scripts for distros, and leave them to package maintainers (I would for example love to see this properly in Debian). Also the windows zip in demo would probably be patched out (maybe you should make it a separate download on your website).
Keep the good work! All best.
