zindlerb··on Today I've made the difficult decision to reduce the size of Coinbase by ~14%
Isn't this what he says in the post? The first reason listed is market cycle not ai.
zindlerb··on The history of cataract surgery
Many surgeries have a yikes success rate but when you need to do it you need to do it unfortunately.
zindlerb··on Hi everyone yes, I left OpenAI yesterday
I don't think that is an apt metaphor. Imo Openai is Apple and Google is Parc. Google experiencing a similar issue to parc where they invented transformers but have been unable to capture the value so far due to being focused on ads revenue.

zindlerb··on Google gets the green light to flood US Gmail inboxes with political spam
I setup a filter to archive any email with the phrase "paid for by" this has been pretty good at filtering all political spam. Although it may generate some false positives.
zindlerb··on TurboTax’s 20-Year Fight to Stop Americans from Filing Taxes for Free (2019)
Someone needs to start a non-profit competitor to TurboTax that uses its fees to advocate for simplifying tax policy.
zindlerb··on Map Design – a guide to good looking maps (2008) [pdf]
I found the book Cartographic Relief Presentation (https://esripress.esri.com/display/index.cfm?fuseaction=disp...) to be an in depth resource on this subject.
zindlerb··on Ask HN: Joining a Late Series Startup in SV. Please Help
Imo you are taking on a huge risk. Your shares will be worth nothing the majority of the time. In the future if your shares are worth a lot and you need to pay taxes that will be a nice problem to have.
zindlerb··on Joins In Steps
Thanks for pointing that out. It has been updated.

Looks really cool! I'm excited to test out a few programs.
zindlerb··on BYOT: Bring your own team
Stripe doesn't have referral bonuses.
zindlerb··on Ask HN: Why are there so few reviews for coding bootcamps?
Try yelp. Hack Reactor has 150+ Yelp reviews http://www.yelp.com/biz/hack-reactor-san-francisco
zindlerb··on YC Interview Prep Tool
Very cool! I made a little tool like this a while ago. It has sound bites from previous yc office hours. http://www.zindlerb.com/officeHours/index.html
zindlerb··on Mean People Fail
I would not consider Zynga a success.
zindlerb··on SimCity That I Used to Know
Will Wright gives such great interviews. One of my favorites is http://www.gamestudies.org/0102/pearce/
zindlerb··on Eve Development Blog, from Light Table developers
True. The appeal for me is directly manipulating the code, and getting feedback. The browser console is laid out in a call response model, and you are unable to edit previous entries. You have to retype them in, or hit up on the keyboard to find the previously entered function. It is nicer to just manipulate my code and evaluate it right in the editor. It isn't a huge difference, but it has been helpful for me.
zindlerb··on Eve Development Blog, from Light Table developers
I don't know about python, but Javascript works great. The killer app for me is using the editor as an integrated repl for JS.
zindlerb··on Paul Graham and Jessica Livingston Interview [video]
The boards are a way to make sales while they create better batteries. Batteries are often the limiting factor in current tech products.
zindlerb··on Light Table needs a community
Thank you for posting this. I use Light Table on a daily basis, but don't participate in the community. This is good motivation for me to get more involved. If you have any questions here feel free to ask!
zindlerb··on Beyond Light Table
I think their new project plans to fulfill Bret Victor's vision in a way LT cannot. Bret Victor's demo was meant as a starting point. He was really advocating tools that help us understand the systems we create as programmers. Not live editing. I think Eve is an attempt to give us the tools to build and reason about our systems.
zindlerb··on Beyond Light Table
Thank you for making light table. I use it every day, and it was immensely helpful for learning clojure script.
zindlerb··on Ask HN: What have you been working on this summer?
A port of Bret Victors Drawing Dynamic Visualizations tool
zindlerb··on Ask HN: How to keep up on research relevant to HCI and Product Design?
I've found this essay eye opening for UX design http://worrydream.com/MagicInk/

Now.
zindlerb··on Ask HN: What's a good framework for a simple, personal homepage?
Why not just use standard html with a css framework like pure?
zindlerb··on Ask HN: What Is The Best Free IDE?
my current favorite free IDE is lighttable.
zindlerb··on 5% for the chicken man
A public demo that made it to the top of HN would be a good start. Honestly, it is so improbable you will get into ycominator that applying this late is basically impossible. Just focus on your startup and wait till next round.
zindlerb··on Ask HN: Can you build something better than Youtube?
The thing that will unseat youtube will probably not look like a competitor originally. I don't know what it will look like. Twitch seems like a possible canidate.
zindlerb··on Throttler: a Clojure library for rate limiting
Looks very well put together. I am not familiar with throttlers. What is throttling normally used for?
