Very interesting! I assume this is posted because it parallels how YC does their interview admissions. I think the YC method has some differences to this problem. YC has already seen the applications for groups, and probably already developed some kind of best to worse ranking of the applicants. The interview most likely functions as a confirmation that the teams live up to their great application. Additionally, YC expands its class to fit the number of qualified applicants. In this problem there is single spot to fill.

I think an interesting way to frame this problem is to take the theory that entrepreneurs should solve problems close to them as fact.

If we do this then we have two related problems. Why aren't people close to big problems becoming entrepreneurs? Why aren't entrepreneurs closer to big problems?

A solution to the problem of "useless" apps might come from finding ways to bring big problems to entrepreneurs, or making it easier for those closer to big problems to become entrepreneurs.

Thoughts?

hmm I agree. But if there was a rush it seems like people wouldn't convert to private wallets they would attempt to exchange their bitcoins for a national currency. Mt.Gox seems to have a 10,000 max withdraw limit over a 30 day period. Something like that would hopefully prevent Mt.Gox from not having enough on hand national currency.

This is a really interesting point! Do you think if there was a run on the bitcoin exchanges they would be able to pay consumers back?

Speculation aside I think it has merit. If Bitcoin crashes it seems like it could cease being used. Which would be unfortunate because Bitcoins have proven to be an excellent medium of exchange. Also I definitely agree with you about Bitcoin proving its theoretical value.

I don't have much bitcoin experience. The accelerating exchange rate seems to indicate there will be a major crash. At the same time the increase could be a result of bitcoin going "viral", but I don't think the amount of coverage of bitcoin justifies the massive prices.

Thank you for this post. Your post really rings true for me. I have been suffering from depression for the past year, but this week has been especially bad. I hadn't sought help until recently. I have been encountering many of the things you describe.

Hearing the developers talk about 10 years of content worries me. I know this is most likely a PR exaggeration, but creating a game that will occupy 10 years or anything close to that is a major responsibility. It would be almost immoral to create something that provides no meaningful experience and is just extended escapism. I obviously haven't played it and it looks exciting. I just hope it isn't made to make players feel super powerful, but ultimately fail to enrich a player's life.
