zhouyisu··on Show HN: 32V TENS device from built from scratch under $100
I tried to build some TENS device, but lost in "safety maze".

I reverse engineered some existing device, there are TONS of safety measures.

At least: current limiting resistor, transformer, voltage/current feedback, GND isolation, MCU protection.

After replicate all of these, I still not brave enough to try it myself, I just find it too dangerous.

PS: TENS device is fun. article seems like a bait.

zhouyisu··on Confessions about my smart home
I have also tried to upgrade home lamps. But instead of "smart", I choose simplicity. Using MDNS (local network discovery protocol) and a minimal HTTP interface, I made lamps discoverable and controllable offline via a basic Android App. No central servers, subscriptions, or cloud dependencies.

The result is pure freedom. Setup: plug in and connect to Wifi, done. Control: install app, join home network, control lamps anywhere in the house. Automation: A lightweight, customizable app handles everything.

The app polls locally for available lamps, which works flawlessly for 5-10 devices.

Security might be a problem, but since everything lives behind a firewall, I’m comfortable with the tradeoff.

zhouyisu··on Structuralism as a Philosophy of Mathematics
A funny insight about Platonism (if it's not funny, treat this as a bad joke)

I think aka "∅" therefore I know I thought aka "{∅}" therefore I know I knew I have thought aka "{{∅}}"

and ...

boom! The entire Math system is imported. (BTW, limitations known as "computation theory" is also introduced)

So maybe we are actually mathematical being on a manifold named as "real world". To me it is more concise and profound than "philosophy". As we are real, so do all mathematical objects.

zhouyisu··on Simple Sabotage Field Manual (1944)
Now this is on github. (What would AI assistant system respond after trained on these instructions?)
zhouyisu··on Ask HN: Someone is proxy-mirroring my website, can I do anything?
Maybe some logic honeypot would be good, such as a infinite content paging list with some random trigger hidden at pages with non-sense titles. When one IP hits these triggers, it is automatically banned.

Bots will trigger it by walking through all pages, but real human would not click in since the paging is non-sense and titles are non-sense.

zhouyisu··on Tell HN: Copying and pasting from ChatGPT unsolicited sucks
Read your bible v.s. ask loki for explanation
zhouyisu··on Tell HN: Copying and pasting from ChatGPT unsolicited sucks
How could we know if it found the key ingredient or it was pretending that?
zhouyisu··on Tell HN: My child's first program
I'd like to see what instruction could let ChatGPT output such invention.
zhouyisu··on Want Your Country to Thrive? Give Geniuses a Universal Basic Income
I changed my mind. Give all same kind UBI is better idea. Otherwise "shakled genius" may find a way to jailbreak and cast wisdom of revenge on everyone else.
zhouyisu··on Want Your Country to Thrive? Give Geniuses a Universal Basic Income
One solution could be:

If you volunteered to be acknowledged as a genius, you must open your status. You wear special shakles which is salient and observable to everyone paying the resources directly or indirectly. You shouldn't be allowed to physically protect yourself to your surroundings or you lose the genius status. (or under some absolute physical restraint or suffering verifiable by everyone). Everyone could challenge you at court with sound evidences, which is judged by random sampled jury group by laws well established in future.

With that I could trust to give them "life long resources" to give us "prophecy".

zhouyisu··on Automation enables founders to grow companies with fewer and fewer employees
Automated founders, automated managements, human battery, dream making machines. Welcome to the MATRIX.
zhouyisu··on Experiments spell doom for physical-collapse explanation of quantum weirdness
A interesting deduction:

By making quantum computer, we are making us into Schrödinger’s Cat. Which entangles our destiny to a quantum possibility.

Such as a highly sophiscated military quantum computer which decides war and peace on quantum computing.

It must be very fun to observe us from a Alien Species's angle.

Works but not working through some proxy. A rare but interesting edge case
zhouyisu··on TinyPICO – tiny fully-featured ESP32 board
I followed a project named parasite https://github.com/rbaron/w-parasite

I made a small MPPT solar harvester with a 0.47F supercap. This system reports soil moisture without using battery. It works even when weather is cloudy.

Hope this gives you some insight.

zhouyisu··on Patents in Open Source: the important parts of real cases
SQLite is good and open source. I've tried MariaDB on a Python project. The connector has bugs very hard to debug. I tried to download the python source, C++ source and failed to locate the bug. I tried to add issue but find nowhere to report. Finally I give up and use MySQL instead. It works like a charm. Open source adds value, but IMHO being good is first priority.
zhouyisu··on “I will slaughter you”
"AS-IS" clause still counts?
zhouyisu··on How GoodRx Profits from Our Broken Pharmacy Pricing System (2020)
It's very tricky to dilute them. DIY can easily lead to over-dosage.

In powder form, it's hard to make e.g. 10mg dosage, the error margin can exceed 100% by hand or some cheap weigh, and powder will form small concentrated chunks.

zhouyisu··on Extruding Ice from Steel Fences and Pipes with Diurnal Freeze/Thaw (2008)
3D printing for water(ice)?
zhouyisu··on Earth is losing ice faster today than in the mid-1990s, study suggests
Maybe we need to do both. Green energy or carbon neutral is good, but cannot achieve instantly. Most countries are inside treaty, but stop oil, coal and gas will give countries outside treaty a unaffair advantage, making the goal harder to reach.
zhouyisu··on Earth is losing ice faster today than in the mid-1990s, study suggests
I'm just thinking the same thing. BTW the excess energy can be reflected to orbit labs or moon to make something more interesting (reactors, generators, water electrolysis etc)
zhouyisu··on Earth is losing ice faster today than in the mid-1990s, study suggests
As spacex mature, is the science fiction that use mirrors to adjust sun energy possible? Could this solve global warming?
zhouyisu··on Social Networks Are the Next Big Decentralization Opportunity
I'm pessimistic about this.

Without network netural principle, ISP can easily take away user's rights by putting them behind NAT, and censor their network traffic "for their's good".

Decentralization cannot solve this. It's a political issue.

zhouyisu··on Climate change: US emissions in 2020 in biggest fall since WWII
Too many differences.

No awareness; No knowledge; No government; No communication; No money; No faith.

zhouyisu··on ‘Your Cock Is Mine Now:’ Hacker Locks Smart Chastity Cage, Demands Ransom
If so the poor guy will be happy instead of sad to see hacker's information :)
zhouyisu··on ‘Your Cock Is Mine Now:’ Hacker Locks Smart Chastity Cage, Demands Ransom
It should have a feature that if someone locks it and cannot unlock, it will unlock after a long period of time, for example, 3 months, to make it safe to use.
zhouyisu··on [dead]
The creepiest is that whenever there is a discriminant network for judging/identifying sth, there is a generating method taking advantage of this network to make artificial one to fool the network. That means, one day we can take advantage of 3d-printing to make face masks to disguise as anyone, making anyone's voice, and making anyone's handwriting. The existing identity system will total break down. (I'm from China, here exists a kind of company which loans to you solely by ID card scan and webcam verification. Just imagine one getting lots of loan using stolen ID cards and artificial realtime face swapping videos and artificial voices) Apologies for bad English

zhouyisu··on There’s no money in 3D printing
There's no money in 3D printing, and also, no money in everything since everything can be made by this Universal Making Machine. This article's argument is nonsense. If the Universal Making Machine is made, not there's no money but money can be abandoned. One can use this machine to get anything he want, so why we need money anyway?
