While I'm not flagging anything (I didn't even realize there was anything going on until about 10 minutes ago), I can see how people wouldn't want to hear about all this drama on HN. Regardless of where the incident started, HN isn't really the place for this. Can't we just get back to talking about X's new API and leave the gossip to twitter?
Interestingly, I've got 3.0.31-861013 from Feb 14, which should be before this exploit was reported. This makes me skeptical that it ever did work on the SIII, as the more I try this, the less convinced I am that I'm actually seeing any flash of an app.
So, the author says that this attack doesn't rely on precise timing, but I couldn't get this to work at all. The first couple times I tried it, I wasn't even sure that there was a flash of the application, and once I could (I think) see it, there was no chance in hell of doing anything with it. I'm not too worried about this one.
It must have been an intense mix of fear and excitement trying to fix anything and everything that broke, but NewsBlur deserves it IMO. It is a great product, and I think this post makes it clear that he cares about his users' experience.
This. I find I can generally get back into feature writing within 5-10 minutes. Debugging can take much longer. This is the number one reason for staying late, because I know that if I leave this issue now, it will take me half of tomorrow just to get back to this particular spot.
While I agree that it is in your best interest to not say "terrorist", it's absurd that by uttering the word you could be kicked off a flight. People need to use some common sense. What happens if I accidentally use the word "bomb" when talking about how I did on my last test? Am I off the plane too?
This has got to stop. Maybe every passenger should walk on the plane saying, "Hello, I'm not a terrorist". Of course if you are, feel free to disclose that fact as well.
I think the difference here is that Maps probably loses Google money, or doesn't make them very much. If this is the case, why should the pay Apple to be featured? Search is a different story, as this is where Google makes their money.
I know this is very late, but thanks a ton for the answer, very insightful! I know I've bought a ton of DLC for RB2, and it is still one of the best activities for the holidays with my younger brother and wife. So thanks again for the many, many hours of entertainment!
As a huge GH (but really Rock Band 1/2, which hit the sweet spot for me) fan, thanks! If your open to answering questions, I want to know (in your opinion) why the genre's appeal has more or less worn off now?
In fact, I might go so far as to say that this was never intended to be merged. I'll assume whoever did this wants their message heard, and while it will never show up on CoderDojo, the hodgepodge of coding styles ensures that the "pull request" will go viral, thus possibly reaching a far greater number of people than it would have otherwise.
Wow. Google Apps for Your Domain is a huge thing for a lot of hackers. I run my entire family's email using it. Is google just giving up on supporting custom domains? That would be a huge disruption for me =(
I know that the price is already much lower than most conferences, but are you planning on having any student discounts? I'd love to go, and this is actually within driving distance!
To quell expectations. Nothing is worse than announcing that you have found something very interesting (scientifically), only for the press to report "NASA doesn't find aliens, should funding be cut?"
A thousand times yes. Do you want to know how I pick a product? Decide the features I want, then pick something that has those features and is either from a brand I trust, or seems to be well received by those who care more about that product than I do. Sometimes this means I get the cheapest thing available, sometimes the best, and sometimes something in between. Easy, and I am satisfied almost 100% of the time without overpaying.
I'm not going to lie, I had a good laugh thanks to this post. Not that I fault the method being used to combat memory leaks. Depending on how much (of pg's) time a restart takes, this may be the most efficient way of handling it, but the idea that the site where we all discuss the finer points of multi-region-zone-datacenter replication redundancy just gets restarted when something isn't working correctly humors me.
This is possibly the funniest thing I have read this year. As an aside, the amount of thought and focus this guy obviously can devote to a single topic is amazing. I really hope someone is paying him lots of money (or whatever he prefers) to use his talents for good.
Thanks for the information and the link, that is a really cool site! I'll make sure to use it on future projects just to make sure I'm not completely screwing over color blind people.
Like I said, disabling port 80 is a great way to handle this kind of attack. Those would obviously be trickier. I'm no network security expert, but I would assume that they are much more resilient to other attacks, as most protocols aren't as network intensive as TCP.
