zerr··on Y Combinator's Ankit Gupta faces backlash over H-1B comments
> No becuase citizenship implies deep cultural and philosophical values as well.

If that was the case, most existing citizens would lose their status :)

> You cant switch those that quickly

It is much faster with the globalization and youtube-ization. After all, "We all live in Amerika".

Btw, the notion of what we call today a citizenship arose just at late 18th century. So, it's not something fundamental that has always been there.

So citizenship is yet another contract - between an individual and a society. To eliminate the unfairness of lottery, changing citizenships should be as easy as changing jobs.
zerr··on Y Combinator's Ankit Gupta faces backlash over H-1B comments
The point is to have a system that does not discriminate based on lottery.
zerr··on Y Combinator's Ankit Gupta faces backlash over H-1B comments
How is discrimination by citizenship more acceptable than e.g. discrimination by ethnicity or race? All of these are outcomes of birth lottery.
zerr··on A Friendly Introduction to Racket
While the language is interesting, sadly, nobody is using it in the wild. Maybe due to cumbersome deployment options? The ability to produce native standalone executables would boost its usage I believe.
zerr··on Delphi 13 Community Edition Is Now Available
No, I'm talking about C++Builder specifically. They made it sub-par to Delphi.
zerr··on Delphi 13 Community Edition Is Now Available
No. While it did had cross-platform support years ago, nowadays it is Windows-only, including targets.
zerr··on Delphi 13 Community Edition Is Now Available
I wish Lazarus had support for C++ as well. Pascal/Ada's English prose syntax is a deal breaker.
zerr··on Delphi 13 Community Edition Is Now Available
C++Builder as well? Any updates regarding cross-platform support?
zerr··on What's the best programming language for coding agents?
Or just replace all of the apps? Why would a user use apps if everything (eventually) can be achieved with an AI?
zerr··on Don't use your phone while you poop
Cocamidopropyl betaine is a must for me.
zerr··on Go 1.27 Interactive Tour
Ah, yes, it is much better now!
zerr··on Ask HN: Anyone still do work on Intel Macs?
Any plans for upgrading to cheese grater Mac Pro 2019? :)
zerr··on Go 1.27 Interactive Tour
As a C++ (including modern) developer for more than 20 years, I had written a "template" keyword only for a handful of times. Maybe once in every 5 years on average... :)

Unless you are a compiler/stdlib vendor or contributing to Boost, there are features that you just don't use it daily.

zerr··on Go 1.27 Interactive Tour
Miranda had it since its release in 1985.

We often forget that our profession (computer programming) belongs to STEM. Some (like Go 1.0 :)) wish to think it is Arts & Humanities. The sooner we realize that yes, it is OK and actually expected to bear a cognitive weight of "(b Box[T]) Map[U any](f func(T) U) Box[U]" the sooner we get back to reality... :)
zerr··on The Art of 64-bit Assembly
TASM.
zerr··on Teach yourself programming in ten years (1998)
What most miss today is DX - Developer Experience, many (most?) devs don't want to become Prompt Engineers.

Another thing is that not many can afford Fable or similar and I don't think prices will go down, since it is already heavily subsidized?

zerr··on DConf 2026 in London
Funny that C89/C90 would compile this specific example just fine due to implicit function declaration feature, which was deprecated in C99.
zerr··on Neverclick: Desktop application for performing mouse actions with your keyboard
Developing a muscle memory is the main aspect of keyboard usage. Does this app account for this? i.e. how repeatable are those key-shortcuts? Seems like it's random.
zerr··on Show HN: Juggler – an open-source GUI coding agent, by the creator of JUCE
Why not use JUCE for UI? :)
zerr··on Building and shipping Mac and iOS apps without opening Xcode
The thing is, in a perspective, who would need any apps at all? Users will get what they want from AI directly.
zerr··on Ask HN: I am not able to find a job. Should I switch stacks?
While this is true that the stack and domain does not matter for any capable software engineer, most jobs are for hiring particular narrow specialists, requiring the years of experience in a particular framework, and even experience working on an exact same product but in a different company.
zerr··on How to Survive 3 Years in North Korea as a Foreigner
Why do we keep tolerating that regime which makes 26 mln people suffer? Why can't we do Operation a la Maduro there?
zerr··on Why skilled workers come to Germany and then leave again
One would say, unemployed with a good local language skills will be able to easier navigate bureaucracy and claim more benefits - more loss for the state :)
zerr··on Why skilled workers come to Germany and then leave again
I believe you are mixing permanent presidentship with citizenship. That's why I've clarified that PR != citizenship.
zerr··on Why skilled workers come to Germany and then leave again
I mean, when you have already proven that you are net positive for the state, and continue doing so, requiring you to pass some exams is not rational. PR != citizenship. Will I have a bit difficulty buying some groceries in a local market? Maybe, but that shouldn't bother the state.

Also, you can live permanently without PR. PR unlocks some additional perks, which again, have nothing to do with linguistics.

zerr··on Why skilled workers come to Germany and then leave again
Business deal means the requirements should be rational, pragmatic.
zerr··on Why skilled workers come to Germany and then leave again
Permanent residency is a business deal between two entities: an individual and a state. It has nothing to do with linguistics. There are many Germans permanently living in Vietnam, Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, who never bothered to even learn how to say Hello, not to mention any certificate or exam...
zerr··on The Art of Computer Programming by Donald E. Knuth
The valuable prose aside, I never liked that code examples were in a pseudo assembly language.
