Sounds like what really killed the service was your inability to deal with reports in a timely manner.

If you can't promptly handle take down requests don't put yourself in a position where you're required to promptly handle take down requests.

As someone also hosting thousands of songs who has been using Navidrome for months I can't say I experienced any performance issues. The codebase is fairly small so it should be fairly straight forward to investigate and narrow down the performance issues you're experiencing.

This seems already close enough to what the author is proposing. Even the language choice is the same.

Your project will still require the users to download a 3rd party software to run it, which I believe to be the main problem with the current approaches. Therefore I don't see anything new this is bringing to the table. It's no different than downloading and running the imageboard above or downloading IPFS/ZeroNet and using one of the imageboards there.
