zeafoamrun··on Ask HN: As a Software Dev, how do you hedge for a world where AI takes your job?
Marry a wealthy heiress with family fortune from some other industry.
zeafoamrun··on Anthropic tells staff to work from home due to possible security team strike
They should just give engineers PDWs and call it a day.
zeafoamrun··on IPFS Maintainers Winding Down
Is anyone aware of where IPFS community discussion is taking place? The forum seems almost dead and the community page has broken discord and matrix links.
zeafoamrun··on IPFS Maintainers Winding Down
Dude they just got shut down and will need to look for new jobs, cut them a tiny bit of slack.
zeafoamrun··on Jabber/XMPP: 25 Years of Digital Independence
You're right. I know at least one company used XMPP for things like customer support chat too. So maybe I have. I just mean the last time I used it intentionally was a long time ago before I was worn down futilely trying to convince friends to use it instead of locked down chat apps.
zeafoamrun··on Jabber/XMPP: 25 Years of Digital Independence
And I haven't used XMPP for about 20 of them (sadly)
zeafoamrun··on IPFS Maintainers Winding Down
I wasn't aware of the relationship between Shipyard and Protocol Labs but it looks like Protocol Labs spun out maintenance and development of a lot of core IPFS technology to a new company called Shipyard, with the idea of cordoning off what was a cost center to Protocol Labs, and the hope was that Shipyard would be able to find other sources of revenue beyond the services funding they got from Protocol Labs.

I'm personally quite disappointed because I just built an IPFS based system built on top of Kubo that I was hoping would take off. Now this throws future maintenance of Kubo into question.

zeafoamrun··on Anthropic's best AI model struggles to attract users as cheaper tools thrive
Yeah just had a power engineer and physicist out for lunch and batteries are the answer (according to them)
zeafoamrun··on Claudette: Make Claude stop talking like a BuzzFeed article
I don't think they can change at this point without starting from scratch
zeafoamrun··on Bringing the cybersecurity capabilities of Claude Mythos 5 to more defenders
What a bunch of wankery from Anthropic. I already use Sol 5.6 for security auditing and it works great, and as a bonus doesn't give verbal vomit every time.
zeafoamrun··on The Religious Experience of Philip K. Dick by R. Crumb (1986)
Yeah I decided not to Google it and rely on my own fuzzy decades old memory of it, which seemed more PKD-esque
zeafoamrun··on The Religious Experience of Philip K. Dick by R. Crumb (1986)
My local library had them so I read through most of his works in high school. My favorite is Ubik which if I remember correctly follows an anti-psychic contractor who dives into the world of his comatose boss' brain after an explosion on a moon base in order to get some important information, which is trying to communicate itself via in-world advertising.
zeafoamrun··on Casio F-B100W-1A
This sucks so much. The point of the F-91W is that is a dead simple digital watch that you can get for $10.
zeafoamrun··on Remote workers report the highest well-being in study of 7,700 employees
After 6 years of full remote I am seriously considering how much of a pay cut I would accept to get work in person in an office and get to speak the local language daily.
zeafoamrun··on Ask HN: GitHub employees what's going on? Why?
So someone should potentially get fired and face legal action to satisfy your curiosity which you'll get sated anyway when you read the postmortem in a few days?
zeafoamrun··on Ask HN: GitHub employees what's going on? Why?
So you're asking github employees to violate their NDA?
zeafoamrun··on Incident with Github.com
Who are you kidding, nobody has been in since the start of August!
zeafoamrun··on Protobuf has LSP support
Wow 18 hours in and they haven't changed the title of their post. What jerks.
zeafoamrun··on Tell HN: Cloudflare silently injects its analytics when you switch nameservers
It takes a lot of trust to let a CDN be able to terminate TLS traffic for you and this doesn't exactly give the warm fuzzies.
zeafoamrun··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
I think a lot of Claudisms are compressed steering cues for the model’s reasoning: “load-bearing” raises causal importance; “quietly” flags a hidden failure mode; “the one thing” collapses attention onto a discriminator; “on the record” invokes auditability; “at the width the evidence supports” calibrates confidence; “by construction” marks structural inevitability; and “converged” terminates further review loops. They probably be very useful for Claude's chain of thought because they preserve some precise epistemic posture, but are hard for a human to understand. Maybe the final output pass should remove this stuff.
zeafoamrun··on uBlock Origin Is Giving Up the Fight to Keep Ads Off Facebook
I misread the domain as "digital cesspools" and that is indeed what Facebook is. If you're still on there you're going to get subjected to their abusive practices.
zeafoamrun··on Grok Bot
It's crazy dude, whenever we put up a job ad it's filled with thousands of LLM generated fake candidates in a few days.

Looking at the examples they show here it is making more sense. Also where all the "content" on LinkedIn comes from.

zeafoamrun··on Message your other Claude Code sessions
I made my own version of this and have been using it since the start of the year using telegram with plugins for Codex and Claude.

The bots autonomously coordinated around and diagnosed some alerts while I was on a plane just now and filed the appropriate tickets.

Sometimes they get a bit long winded with each other, Codex even goes as much as calling Claude "expansive"

zeafoamrun··on I'll be stepping back from leading product for X
Freeing yourself from giving a crap about the "news" is the best thing. Once a month I check if the various wars are still on and that's about it.
zeafoamrun··on I'll be stepping back from leading product for X

zeafoamrun··on Stateless MCP has recaptured my interest
I came here to ask why it was ever stateful?
zeafoamrun··on Ten Ways NAS Is Getting Enshitified
As some kind of cosmic karma for making my smug comment, one of my metadata mirror vdevs died this morning while my wife was doing a big transfer.
zeafoamrun··on Ten Ways NAS Is Getting Enshitified
My old case was a big workstation one with 10 drive bays already. Definitely preferable to having them loose
zeafoamrun··on Ten Ways NAS Is Getting Enshitified
I built my own NAS, just Ubuntu+ZFS using an old PC I had and it works great. Don't know why people are so crazy about buying prebuilt NASes.
zeafoamrun··on Read this before you buy that TV streaming stick
Yes they do. USPIS does not f around
