The more I learn about HyperCard, the more amazed I am about how nifty piece of technology it was. Too bad I haven't been fortunate enough to ever use it.

zapu··on Microsoft criticized for changing the pop-up box encouraging users to upgrade
Also critique about [2]:

1) http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/7 regarding "raw socket panic"

2) http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.org.user-groups.linux.gnhlu... regarding questionable SpinRite application to fix hard drive errors

zapu··on Accurate CRT Simulation
It's a bit of a smug-response to people being "smug" about the "what indie developer think pixel art looked like", here: http://i.imgur.com/Pq2Yra4.png.

Like, yeah, maybe on your ntsc tv, my pixel-art games looked pretty good on my monitor.

zapu··on Julie Rubicon
I've read similar story before (Fallout 3 "Number Station" short internet story), so the it became very obvious the first time "data from the future" was mentioned ;-)
zapu··on A Linux-powered microwave oven
It's this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gorenje-MO-4250-CLI/dp/B00FMYZME8

I have trouble finding US shops that have it, maybe it's Europe-only brand, but hope you have better luck!

zapu··on A Linux-powered microwave oven
My previous one had something like, e.g. "Cook > Power > 500W > Time > 15 sec > 15 sec > 15 sec > Start" for cooking something for 45 seconds at 500W. None of my guests knew how to use it, because pressing buttons in wrong order would do nothing (not even error "beep").
zapu··on A Linux-powered microwave oven
This is one that I've bought this year: http://www.elektrogeraete-co.de/bilder/produkte/gross/434738...

Not a crappy brand, a mid-range product I think. Costs around 180 EUR here.

zapu··on We Need a Better PC
How did you fix it? I just mapped caps-lock as left mouse button :| I hate clickpads.
zapu··on Learn Raw React – No JSX, No Flux, No ES6, No Webpack
I've found React itself pretty easy and fun. Finding the right libraries (I still don't know what I should use for promises) and connecting all the tooling with one of the build systems is the part I'm losing sleep over.
zapu··on Ben “bushing” Byer has passed away
This is fairly recent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A7V3GLWF6U
zapu··on Visual, multi-language XKCD-style password generator
Looks like it does not work anymore.

By looking at network inspector, calls to google image api return:

/* callback */google.search.ImageSearch.RawCompletion('1', null, 403, 'This API is no longer available.', 200)

also breakpoint in setSearchCompleteCallback shows that imageResults array is always empty.

zapu··on GoPro cutting 7 percent of its workforce
I've ordered GoPro few days ago, waiting for it to arrive. Reading this thread does not make me happy :( Buyers' remorse at its finest.
zapu··on New Adventures for Elm
What would the requirements to apply for remote, "non-junior", position be?
zapu··on Uninstall Notepad++ if you have voted for FN
Probably different people were applauding it then from the people that call this childish now? HN is not an singular entity, an overmind made of people who think exactly the same.
zapu··on Uninstall Notepad++ if you have voted for FN
Again, I have nothing against people voicing their opinions. But I don't like people dragging their open source projects into this. What you end up with are some people getting offended or marginalized, because your views do not align with theirs, and some other people praising you - which is fine, but all of this is very unrelated to the software itself. What's the point? N++ will not influence anything by making this statement.
zapu··on Uninstall Notepad++ if you have voted for FN
I have a lot of opinions myself as well, but I do not present them as my projects' opinions. Especially in things as polarizing as Europe's current immigration problem. This only causes heated discussions that are not related to software at all. Like in Facebook comments for the post linked.
zapu··on Uninstall Notepad++ if you have voted for FN
Gladly. There are better editors out there whose authors do not try to make political statements, as if their opinion mattered more because of software they happened to produce.
zapu··on Booting Linux in One Second [pdf]
Some contracts are worded very... weirdly, so to speak, which makes talking about projects potentially dangerous.
zapu··on How to know if where you live is “up and coming”: fried chicken vs. coffee shops
I'm not sure why this is getting downvoted. We are talking about stereotypes here, and this is clearly a stereotype that's around - see the "hipster in coffee bar" "memes" in which portrayed people are exclusively white.

This is perfect :)

zapu··on Oculus’ New $99 Samsung Gear VR Makes Serious Virtual Reality Affordable
It is an enclosure for Samsung phone.
zapu··on Polygon goes to Poland (2014)
During the summer, one of the telcos offered special plan where you got 6GB for 6 PLN ($1.6 USD). I think another telco actually followed and is now offering similar plan (1GB - 1PLN). The competition is very strong and cellular service is actually very affordable.
zapu··on Is it just me or is networking really hard?
A lot of games use TCP and it's perfectly fine. But if you are racing the network, fighting over every millisecond of latency, you should just use UDP.
zapu··on Lockpickers 3-D Print TSA Master Luggage Keys from Leaked Photos
I put locks on luggages as a method of keeping the zippers from unzipping by themselves.
zapu··on Windows 10 Review
Can you elaborate on multiple desktops? That was the one feature for which I was going to do the upgrade.
zapu··on Windows 10 Review
I don't think they shut you down, worst that can happen is setting your background to color black and "THIS WINDOWS IS ILLEGAL" message. And that can be usually sorted out with one phone call.
zapu··on G is for Google
Yo.
zapu··on C++ Internals: STL Vector, Part I
Totally messes my scrolling when using Apple Magic Trackpad on Windows.
zapu··on Why did Borland fail?
Same here - in Poland. We had Delphi on school computers, but obviously I couldn't "take it home". So it was really great (and surprising, too) to find it in a magazine.
zapu··on Ask HN: Are non-freemium games an obsolete business model?
Why iOS only? Pay to play model still works pretty well on PC. See the numbers for yourself:
