zaphirplane··on SpaceX says it has agreement to acquire Cursor for $60B
3 things bug me Now why would cursor agree to that unless the offer was better than what their market valuation + acquisition premium < 60

This was a similar play for twitter by the same person

While an innovator at the time, today there are a lot of LLM coding solution, sold by model providers, model aggregators even open source ones , it’s not obvious what is being bought that isn’t a feature of vs code or one of the LLM agents ( as the dismissive saying goes )

zaphirplane··on Smoking ban for people born after 2008 in the UK agreed
The distinction here is, this law is a do as I say not as I do. Different laws for different dob ( dob not age )
zaphirplane··on Anna's Archive loses $322M Spotify piracy case without a fight
Not really this is civil case not the full weight of a state behind it
zaphirplane··on Do you even need a database?
SQLite is famous for single writer how does that reconcile with you criticism of the article
zaphirplane··on Anna's Archive loses $322M Spotify piracy case without a fight
It’s well established if the US wants to they can find them and crypto can be traced.

Same question though how are they paying for the domain, assuming this is on the plaintiff to trace

zaphirplane··on Show HN: LangAlpha – what if Claude Code was built for Wall Street?
How does it insert itself between the agent and the mcp, does —from edit the mcp file to add itself as a mcp
zaphirplane··on I still prefer MCP over skills
How ? Have you used these things when they are blocked and try to get around the block
zaphirplane··on I still prefer MCP over skills
This has been hashed to death and back. The mcp allows a separation between the agent and the world, at its most basic not giving the agent your token or changing a http header , forcing a parameter.

Well yes you don’t need those things all the time and who knows if the inventor of mcp had this idea in mind but here we are

zaphirplane··on Git commands I run before reading any code
What are examples of better ones. I don’t get the let me show the world my work and I’m not a fan of large PR
zaphirplane··on I'm Not Consulting an LLM
I was hoping for a deeper article
zaphirplane··on Package managers need to cool down
How did the security team conduct a security review of a non trivial package
zaphirplane··on Better JIT for Postgres
What do you mean ? Cause the obvious thing is a shared cache and if there is one thing the writers of a db know it is locking
zaphirplane··on OpenAI reaches deal to deploy AI models on U.S. DoW classified network
What’s with the DoW will that survive the current administration
zaphirplane··on BuildKit: Docker's Hidden Gem That Can Build Almost Anything
This is a strange double submission , the one with caps made it !

zaphirplane··on Anthropic drops flagship safety pledge
When the leading 5 models are from the US then yes enforced safety makes a difference because they are ahead of the curve. Now when the 10th model can be a danger then your case is true.

What would safety applied to the leading 3 mean to you anyways ?

zaphirplane··on Claude Sonnet 4.6
Why is the bar replacing a receptionist ? At the low end It will take over tasks and companies will need less people, at the top end it will take over roles. What’s the point you are making, if it can’t do bla now it never will ?
zaphirplane··on Claude Sonnet 4.6
> You can improve it to be a little less susceptible to injection attacks

That’s exactly the point the rapid rate of improvement is far form slow polish in 10 years it will be everywhere doing everything

zaphirplane··on Claude Sonnet 4.6
1 you are massively assuming less than linear improvement, even linear over 5 years puts LLM in different category

2 more efficient means need less people means redundancy means cycle of low demand

zaphirplane··on Claude Sonnet 4.6
Wow you are making a point of everything will be ok using farming ! Farming is struggling consolidated to big big players and subsidies keep it going

You get layed off and spend 2-3 years migrating to another job type what do you think g that will do to your life or family. Those starting will have a paused life those 10 fro retirement are stuffed.

zaphirplane··on Arm wants a bigger slice of the chip business
True but who is porting the top 20 languages to risc-v with the same performance
zaphirplane··on News publishers limit Internet Archive access due to AI scraping concerns
We don’t lack the technology to limit scrapers, sure it’s an arms race with AI companies with more money than most. Why can’t this be a legal block through TOS
zaphirplane··on News publishers limit Internet Archive access due to AI scraping concerns
How is the publisher supposed to fund their operations let along make a profit. How about a 1 year lock on the archive pages. There are many ways of keeping that record but not taking views undermining the business model
zaphirplane··on GPT-5.2 derives a new result in theoretical physics
I must be a Luddite, how do you have a model working for 12 hours on a problem. Mine is ready with an answer and always interrupts to ask confirmation or show answer
zaphirplane··on Anthropic raises $30B in Series G funding at $380B post-money valuation
How will these investors get their money. The AI companies either have a competitor invent AGI which means all other AI companies are worth nothing or they themselves invent AGI in which case a whole bunch of companies go broke including the investors themselves.

This money isn’t never going to be returned

zaphirplane··on We mourn our craft
The output is a feature, a bug fix, a product.
zaphirplane··on Claude Opus 4.6
Correct me if I’m wrong aren’t they the innovators of multiple things like skills sub agents mcp and whatever this memory thing is agents files

Seriously they are the apple iPhone or AWS of LLM a decade or so ago.

zaphirplane··on Claude Opus 4.6
Why doesn’t you ask it and find out ;)
zaphirplane··on We tasked Opus 4.6 using agent teams to build a C Compiler
What were the challenges out of interest. Some of it is the use of gcc extensions? Which needed an equivalent and porting over to the equivalent
zaphirplane··on Banks seek out new buyers for Oracle data centre loans
Or want to diversify to reduce exposure, after all a loan inherently has a risk. Doesn’t mean ( it could ) it’s a fire sale a eggs basket situation
