zagrebian··on Ask HN: How does Google share my login information with YouTube?
The web platform does not have a concept of companies. There are origins, domains, and websites. As I said, logins in browsers are tied to websites.
zagrebian··on Ask HN: How does Google share my login information with YouTube?
What. The. Heck.

Is this considered a dark pattern?

zagrebian··on Why do people not notice our enormous, prominent, clear and contrasting banner?
> I think there's still a problem in our society or species in general that people simply do not read things thoroughly.

There are many, many problems with our species, but we can’t change that. We can only adapt to it.

Is there a reason why this couldn’t be a web app that works everywhere, desktop and mobile?

People have played games because life sucks even before the pandemic.
zagrebian··on Bunny fonts – privacy respecting drop-in replacement for Google Fonts
Shouldn’t the website disclose who funds this service? Like, what’s the catch?
zagrebian··on Ask HN: Whats the difference between cross-site cookies and third-party cookies?
I think cryptominers are fingerprinters are scripts. Scripts are not cookies.

zagrebian··on Firefox rolls out Total Cookie Protection by default to all users
Well, what are those use-cases? That is what I asked.
zagrebian··on Firefox rolls out Total Cookie Protection by default to all users
> small groups of domains that are allowed to share their cookies

Could you explain how this could be beneficial to the user?

zagrebian··on Privacy Badger is a browser extension that learns to block invisible trackers
> I prefer this over other more popular blockers because Privacy Badger doesn't directly go after ads. It just blocks the tracking aspect

This is the exact reason why I use DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials instead of an ad-blocker. Whenever I mention that I don’t block ads out of principle, I get down-voted a lot :-D

zagrebian··on Ask HN: Non-violent video games with great stories?

You can report website issues on https://webcompat.com
zagrebian··on There is no reason to cross the U.S. by train but I did it anyway (2019)
How fast could you go from coast to coast in one of those high-speed trains that exist in other countries? 10 hours maybe?
zagrebian··on Kagi search and Orion browser enter public beta
It would be easier to evaluate this browser if the website highlighted the unique features instead of listing them together with the stuff that other browsers have too. Every browser has a reader mode, sync, tracking protection, autoplay blocking, picture in picture, etc. Why mention it? That just makes me think that this browser is nothing special.
zagrebian··on Arc Browser Company: Chrome and Safari face a new challenger
Those are not tabs but website icons (think iOS home screen).
zagrebian··on Arc Browser Company: Chrome and Safari face a new challenger
Well, Google didn’t develop a new engine for Chrome. They forked WebKit. And then Samsung, Microsoft, and others forked Chromium for their own browsers. (These forks are kept close to Chromium, but they’re still forks.)
zagrebian··on Arc Browser Company: Chrome and Safari face a new challenger
They need to come up with a different name. ARC Browser https://www.arcbrowser.com is already taken.
zagrebian··on Arc Browser Company: Chrome and Safari face a new challenger
The UI shown in the screenshot is radically different.
zagrebian··on Arc Browser Company: Chrome and Safari face a new challenger
> Each time I am hopeful that someone has taken on the monumental task of creating a new, better, or at least different web engine/ browser. The competition would be good.

What would be the benefit of having a browser with a new web engine?

zagrebian··on HTTPS Everywhere will sunset in January 2023
Can we also sunset animated GIFs, while we’re at it?
zagrebian··on Keep the web free, say no to Web3 (2021)
They meant useful in general. Forks are useful in general. A stamp database is only useful to stamp collectors and similar.
zagrebian··on I'm an addict
> But those funny comments are often themselves memes, repeated in reply in similar contexts.

Yeah, but they’re still funny. Better that than hate speech.

zagrebian··on I'm an addict
Do you have a job?
zagrebian··on I'm an addict
> things as stupid as I see on reddit

The majority of comments I encounter on Reddit are jokes that are at least mildly amusing, and some of them are hilarious. If I had to describe Reddit comments with one word, I’d say funny, not stupid.

zagrebian··on Tell HN: I probably spend more on piracy than if I just paid for content
I watched a lot of X-files on German free TV in the ’90s, and I only found out later that it was edited to remove the most graphic scenes. Imagine paying for streaming and not even getting the full content.
zagrebian··on Twitter Terms of Service Diff
