I find the underlining of the period in "school holidays." very jarring.
yzydserd··on A misalignment of AI in mathematics
> solving problems is only a tool and proxy for achieving the primary goal of conceptual understanding and insight.

This is the effect of AI on most intellectual disciplines, and it’s a real worry.

In case it wasn't obvious - it wasn't obvious to me from the 43 mentions of it in the article - beads is a product by the same author. There was an HN post on it 8 months ago https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46075616 (68 comments). I've not tried it.

yzydserd··on Why is almost everyone right-handed? A new study connects it to bipedalism
A literature search didn't turn much evidence of this at all, let alone conclusive evidence. Any sources? I swirl right hand clockwise. I also draw circles clockwise. One article said circle drawing direction was likely cultural or linked to handwriting systems, not which was more "natural".
yzydserd··on Why is almost everyone right-handed? A new study connects it to bipedalism
It’s similar in other sports. Around 30% of top cricketers are left handed. It’s 40% for some leading countries.

The “hypothesis presumes that athletes in interactive sports are much more likely to play and practice against right-handed opponents. As a result, these athletes develop both greater familiarity and highly specific skills to anticipate the action outcomes of their right-handed opponents via attunement to crucial perceptual information”

yzydserd··on UK Fuel Price Intelligence – Market analytics from reporting stations
> So I built a scraper that hits the UK government's mandatory Fuel Finder API every 10 minutes and stores every price change. 90k records across 7,700 stations since January.

Only 1 change per station per week on average? Fewer than I expected. Not sure I'd call it a scraper, myself.

157p/L national average is about 8 USD/G.
