Could you elaborate on that? This has never happened to me. If this happened because you wrote a bunch of custom layers then I'd argue that it's a non issue because in Atom you cannot do that at all (or at least experience the same problems if you do)

Time for what? The superior modification capabilities in Spacemacs by no means force you to fiddle. It seems to me that all your problems were caused due to you not being able to stop yourself to fiddling with the very sane and good defaults.

This is similar to the argument I see about people who switch to an iPhone all the time. "I just didn't have time to fiddle. I wanted my phone to just work." So just don't exercise your freedom to fiddle then! The defaults in both cases are just as sane and if you some time in the future need to customize something for the sake of productivity, the you can!

Sound to me like somebody moving to China from the US because they "Didn't have time to participate in politics anymore."

You can just use the menu bar for that.

You can, as it tells you, use the fuzzy command search by typing M-x. Same as Atom, just a different command.

Honestly, and sorry for sounding rude, to me it just seems like you intentionally tried to not understand in order to prove a point; Just because in your mind you have this idea of emacs just having to be inferior in some way.

This is an extremely good solution IMO.

It's about documenting when and where changes are made so that you can find bugs easier, not for backups.

They obviously care as they implement extensive moding to avoid this place from devolving into something like Reddit.

Adding to this: Replace the down vote icon completely with the flagging icon, as the down vote icon probably encourages aggravated people to use it in the wrong way.

What you said is of course correct, but what I'm saying is that while the concept of a down vote button is useful, people end up using it in the fashion I described because of its convenience.

Maybe merging them isn't the best idea, but changing it to mimic the flag button (i.e. moving it and requiring a reason to be specified before submission) would probably fix this issue, I'd wager.

My theory is that it's because it's to convenient.

A solution could be to move it to next to the flag button, maybe? And also making it a bit more difficult to do, like requiring the user to input a reason.

IMO there shouldn't be a down vote button at all, and to be honest I can't see its purpose. If a comment is trolling or being aggressive then you should flag it, so where is there room for the down vote button?

It becomes quite intuitive to just use it for what you consider an "invalid opinion" regardless of how much you try to teach people otherwise, because it's so convenient to use and people are less rational when they are angered.

I don't understand why this is seen as required. A Nexus phone if very modular and easy to use.

This is a very good question and something I'm always concerned about when it comes to open core products.

It could be as easy as just recommending one at random every time you load the page. I don't understand why they don't implement this.

Me too. I wanted to switch to only reading Hacker Monthly, but sadly it's been discontinued :(

Maybe not the perfect solution, but I created a bot that notifies me when "a lot" of activity occurs on my friends Rocket.chat server. Basically when more than 3 people write more than 5 messages each, pretty quickly.

I've found that I rarely check it anymore since I'm always notified when something interesting is happening or when people specifically want to reach me; I'm no longer afraid I'll "miss out".

I might be completely wrong here, but I read about a study where mice were deprived of dopamine (chemical responsible for motivating behavior). There they shows that the mice would rather starve to death than seek out food and water. However, if food was placed in their mouths they would swallow it and gain pleasure.

I believe apps are a perfect example of addiction in this case since they create compulsive behaviors without giving pleasure.
