yur3i__··on Dirty Little Zine – a tool for making an 8 page printable Zine
>We lost gobs of tenants and the riff raff tookover

Not trying to get into an argument but you are no more entitled to the city than your fellow citizens aka the "riff raff"

yur3i__··on Ferrari Luce
Feel like this is an answer to the Lamborghini Urus which, at the time, I remember the internet not being fond of either. But in the real world, they are now a massive status symbol
yur3i__··on The fun has been optimized out of the Internet
I as a Gen-Zer mourn the "old internet" of the 2010s. I agree and feel like nostalgia is kind of a lie.

In my own generation for example, I've seen a transition from "no good music has come out since 2000, we missed the GB/N64 era of gaming" to deep nostalgia for PS3/Xbox and Linkin Park era metal as the golden era.

yur3i__··on Popcorn Time 0.5.0
260M households does not equal 260M satisfied with Netflix alone. Almost everyone I know with Netflix also has at least one, if not both, of Disney+ or Prime Video
yur3i__··on The Sad Bastard Cookbook
Because I got bills lol
yur3i__··on How to start a Go project in 2023
It is boring, that is the appeal for most of its proponents I think. Obviously that doesn't appeal to the nerdier side of programming, but if your goal is to "write programs" as opposed to "do programming for programmings sake", it gets out of your way most of the time to enable that in my experience.
yur3i__··on First early gameplay trailer for “UNRECORD”
While impressive technically I am very curious how well these kinds of hyper-realistic games will work in terms of gameplay compared to their more arcadey counterparts, I'm not convinced people will prefer them to regular shooters after the shock of the graphics wears off. I think this kind of thing could be crazy for VR though where more natural movement is preferred.
yur3i__··on LastPass breach could've been stopped with a 3-year-old Plex update
> Maybe don't install crap on your dev machine if you're not going to keep it updated.

If only there was some way lastpass could ensure that crap wasn't installed on corporate network connected dev machines...

yur3i__··on 'Tradwives' promote a lifestyle that evokes the 1950s
> I know that the story isn't new: college grades move to large cities for jobs and exciting opportunities, but these friends are young! Plus, we are witnessing our siblings who are about to leave college balk at the idea of paying rent in large cities (NYC, SF, Chicago, Austin, et al) and are looking more fondly at smaller, more affordable cities.

I've had much a similar experience, moving to a smaller town after university. Since my role allows me to work mostly remotely there's no reason to bother paying crazy rent in the city rather than occasionally commuting as necessary. There is a decent cohort of other people here in the same boat so I'm not just surrounded by older folk and its nice being closer to nature if I ever want to get out of town for a while.

yur3i__··on The FBI alleges TikTok poses national security concerns
Thinking this change of "technocratic authoritarian overlords" is as much of a non-event as you seem to or that the Chinese level of control over the citzenry is equivalent to that of the USA is a crazy level of naivety that I can't even begin to unpack
yur3i__··on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II breaks record with $800M sold in three days
Costing more per unit than every other call of duty release probably helps
yur3i__··on Ask HN: What social media site could replace Twitter?
> Personally I think Twitter would work best if it was left to be just that. I don't think anyone really cares about what I have to say, for example

This hasn't been my experience of twitter at all, I follow far more unverified people than I do verified and I know I'm not the only one that does. Communities like football (soccer) twitter aren't built on a few large verified accounts but, as far as I can tell, by mass participation more akin to reddit.

yur3i__··on If India's Ruling Party IT Head report a post, Meta will take it down
I would if it were true however I don't think India has been particularly friendly to Sikhs or any other minority community.
yur3i__··on Man plays his saxophone through 9-hour complex brain surgery to remove tumor
I don't imagine it was 9 straight hours but like a song an hour or every half an hour
yur3i__··on Signal’s Founder on GPG (2015)
I have GPG for if theres anything that actually needs a level of assured security that I send to close friends and immediate family, but as a day to day thing end-to-end encrypted instant messaging is a good compromise between your own security and not convincing everyone around you that youre scared of the federal agents living in your walls.
yur3i__··on If India's Ruling Party IT Head report a post, Meta will take it down
So many Sikh pages in India get banned on such a regular basis its incredible to see in real time. Considering Sikhs are a somewhat secondary target to Indian Muslims I cannot imagine the scale of operations against them.
yur3i__··on Tell HN: Instagram app turns on camera while browsing
The web interface is the only way I interact with Instagram. Unless you rely on DMs for communication (you can DM but without notifications and stuff its a hard sell as a primary method of using Instagram) or post stories there's pretty much nothing missing.
yur3i__··on Ask HN: Why are privacy coins like Monero not seeing wide adoption?
> Monero are not seeing wide adoption Because it us marketed with an actual use and not as a way to make money
yur3i__··on Met Police UK Live Facial Recognition
> It's gotten so bad that if I were to write some offensive rap lyrics here I could be visited by the police to "check my thinking", or worse I could prosecuted.

If you ever listen to drill music from the UK you'll see how bad it is, all the censored parts are not for radio suitability as they don't censor swear words they're from police orders..

yur3i__··on TikTok updated privacy policy to collect faceprints and voiceprints (2021)
Worth noting that this article is from June 2021, still terrible but not a brand new change.
yur3i__··on NASA wants nuclear reactor on the Moon by 2030
I feel like NASA wants a lot of things. Maybe its a symptom of Musks over exaggerations re SpaceX but I don't believe this will happen
yur3i__··on Many single Japanese people in their 20s have never been on a date – survey
I'm 22 and have never been on a date or anything resembling one. I'm not too worried about it, though the potential "skill gap" (for lack of a better word) with future partners does concern me a bit I have to admit.
yur3i__··on Riding London’s unexpectedly fantastic Elizabeth line
Meanwhile the rest of the country languishes in underfunded, underdeveloped transport infrastructure. The divide between the south east and the rest of the country becomes more stark day by day.
yur3i__··on I cheated on my Microsoft interview (2019)
I wouldn't even call this cheating to be honest, people practice interview programming questions all the time, he just practiced the right one for the day.
yur3i__··on That Ban(e) of Indian Music: Hearing Politics in the Harmonium [pdf]
I'm not a player but I attend services at the Sikh Gurdwara when I can and I will admit that I really am not a fan of the harmonium in comparison to other pre-colonial instruments. There are still groups such as Dhadis who don't use harmoniums however theym by design, create extremely intense listening experiences but I would love to hear more Kirtan in other contexts live.
yur3i__··on The Modos Paper Laptop
Yeah I feel like this kind of thing is a bit of redundant, if you were going to be distracted by looking at HN on your laptop, you probably will do the same on your phone
yur3i__··on AI models still racist, even with more balanced training
"Racially biased" works, racist just gets more clicks
yur3i__··on There’s No Scenario in Which 2050 Is ‘Normal’
Has there been any 50 year period in the last like 500 years that has ended mostly similarly to how it started?
yur3i__··on Musk announces funding secured for Twitter buy
>what basically amounts to a logo, he could very well just make his own website

Trumps fall in mainstream impact has proved this to not be the case. It used to be we would hear something crazy from him on a daily basis. If the ex president can't make his own website and maintain relevancy, I doubt musk can either

yur3i__··on [dead]
>My offer is my best and final offer and if it is not accepted, I would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder

This saga has been some of the craziest investment I've seen in my (admittedly short) life
