The title should be edited so that the year it was written is appended. Tack a (2012) onto that title.

ytNumbers··on Ask HN: Advice for someone who can't get out of a hole
> no professional experience... but I believe the most fitting role for me is a leadership one.

Don't ever say this. Until you've got a few years of working under your belt, don't even THINK it! It can sound like you want to start out as the boss, and you're more of an "idea" guy. Scary words from someone looking for their first real job. Without seeing your resume, I can't even guess what is holding you back from that first job. I'm hoping that you've held some sort of job for the past two years (even if it's not in your field of expertise). As I'm sure you know, two years of unemployment will tend to eliminate you from consideration for maybe 90% of job openings. If I had a background in Advertising & PR, I would be happy to help you out in any way I can. I guess all I can do is wish you good luck, and upvote your posting in the hopes that you'll make it to the front page of HN where some PR workers will see it and be able to provide some helpful advice.

ytNumbers··on A Non-Techie Tries to Build a Tech Company
The core objection here seems to be that a dozen people have foolishly volunteered (or been manipulated) into a long series of death marches. It's painful to see so many young people exploited so severely. After enough years, it could lead to burnout, or perhaps, a life and death situation. Is there anything that fills you with rage?
ytNumbers··on Crimea, the Tinderbox
World War One began a hundred years ago, and today it feels like Europe hasn't progressed at all in those hundred years. Sadly, the Marx Brothers "Duck Soup" remains as relevant as ever.

Yeah. A movie like that might only get ten Academy Award nominations.

ytNumbers··on US makes Bitcoin exchange arrests
This seems to me like the US government is just getting started regarding Bitcoin exchanges. Government authorities always move slowly, and usually go after the most egregious cases first. This reminds me of the US arrests that occurred regarding overseas poker sites when their executives got pulled off a plane that was making a stopover in the US en route to Central America. This sort of thing does make you wonder if any Bitcoin exchanges and their employees can ultimately avoid US charges of money laundering?
ytNumbers··on Silk Road forfeits Bitcoins worth $28m
If the authorities liquidate the $158m of bitcoins all at once, that might trigger a big fall in the price of bitcoin on the exchanges. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes the FBI to liquidate seized assets? That might give people a good idea of when would be a good time to take some profits.

The part about Wikipedia was quite amusing.

> We ask: Why didn’t he get a friend to log in and correct the entries? He responds with a startled pause. “Is that right?

> I didn't know you could do that!”

Good luck with that. Those corrections would be reverted faster than you can say Jack Robinson. For the pages dealing with important historical events, it's quite a collection of petty kings they've got over there.

ytNumbers··on Failing to reach Hacker News
At the risk of losing some karma... I would have checked out your web site, but McAfee Site Advisor considers your web site to be risky. Who knows why. Their algorithms are questionable, I'm sure, but why take any chances?
ytNumbers··on First Victim of Amazon Drones: The Credibility of CBS and 60 Minutes
It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
ytNumbers··on Jury: Newegg infringes Spangenberg patent, must pay $2.3 million
Since we can't seem to stop these horrible patent trolls, perhaps they could be reined in with a law that limits how much damage they can do. If a new law limited these sorts of claims to a grand total of 10% of a company's gross sales for the year, a small business could survive these kinds of attacks without having to pay millions of dollars for lawyers. If a business was attacked by multiple patent trolls, then those trolls would have to fight each other in court as they each argued that they deserve the lion's share of the capped 10% of the company's gross sales for the year. Since our current patent system is being thoroughly abused, the question we should be asking is: What can be done to limit patent trolls so that small businesses can survive? Because right now it is very lucrative to be a patent troll, so in the future, we could wind up with a ton of them. It's not a bright future.
ytNumbers··on FixYT
Fantastic! There's so much wrong with Youtube these days. It's great that someone is trying to fix it! Now, a nitpick... Your about page has a typo. You've got the word recommendation with only one m. If it were my site, I'd want someone to tell me.

ytNumbers··on Colorado measure legalizing marijuana passes
> Drugs really aren't as dangerous as you've been told.

I guess no one here watches the TV show "Intervention". Pity. That TV show is a better education on the real impact of hardcore drugs than any book you might read. This Colorado vote is a relatively minor issue, really. But, it does indicate that we're heading down a slippery slope. Since those running the meth clinics say that only one person in 50 can stay clean for a year, there might come a day when half of society are hardcore drug addicts. But, we will never face that kind of zombie apocalypse because the life expectancy for a meth addict is only seven years from the moment they get hooked. Let the down-voting commence!
