ysangkok··on Postgres Demystified
Sounds like you need strong AI. :) But really, isn't that like wishing the compiler would find out if you need a priority queue or a stack? Or rewriting your n² sort automatically to n log n?

What's strange here? He's factual, explains everything he does. No mysticism here.

I don't like how timetz was highlighted. From the PostgreSQL docs[1]: "Time zones in the real world have little meaning unless associated with a date as well as a time, since the offset can vary through the year with daylight-saving time boundaries."

Also, I quote: "It's Postgres or Postgres-Que-Ell, not Postgre-Es-Que-Ell". And then a slide shows "PostgresQL" while http://postgresql.org shows "PostgreSQL". That pronounciation makes no sense to me if the slide is correct.

99 Bottles is way better because it covers iteration. FizzBuzz is even better because 99 Bottles emphasizes string handling a bit much.

A couple of problems/solutions for problems I encountered using Ubuntu 12.04:

* It does not work with plain ALSA, I only get sound after starting PulseAudio.

ysangkok··on Py3k status update #9
You can use py3k with CPython, so there is no reason to make two jumps at once. It's like saying you might buy a Porche now that the roads are better. But you can enjoy nice roads without a Porche just as well!

ysangkok··on Valve Says "Yes" To Steam Linux This Year
Remember how Phoronix insinuated it was just around the corner two years ago: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=valve...

I doubt Valve need two years to port it to Linux. With Gabe's track record of taking his time developing software, I don't think we should get our hopes up too soon.

ysangkok··on My GF learned to code in 3 months. This is what she came up with.
Don't blame it on Haskell. Everyone has to learn the fundamentals. Haskell is suited for making games, it's just not the mainstream language for that. See http://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/Frag . Yes, 3D games have lots of tricky state handling and OpenGL doesn't map well to Haskell. But doing a point-and-click adventure in Haskell is not harder than doing it in C++.

I really doubt your classes were stupid and boring. Maybe you were the one who was stupid and boring :P

Why don't they use the "var f1 = function() {}" syntax instead of the "function f1() {}" syntax? I thought the former was better because of scoping.

ysangkok··on ISO updates C Standard (Now we have C11)
Good luck in convincing anyone that doing something that's not rational is a good idea. The very definition of rationality is something that represents something good and necessary. I don't know why you'd try and argue for non-rationality/mysterious/spiritual reasons when using something is mathematical and scientific as computers. It's a bad combination.

Also, you don't have to use the whole standard. You know there are people who use C++ for hobby projects? That standard is dozens of times larger than the C standard.
